Iron Fist Season 2 Episode 5 Look, I’m extremely surprised to admit this, but Iron Fist season 2 is quite comfortably my favorite Netflix MCU season that isn’t either of the Daredevils. Sure, it isn’t perfect, but it is enormous fun and completely plunging head first into the mystical underpinnings of the character. Jessica Jones might boast writing that’s thematically complete and has important things to say about trauma, but I just can’t get excited about watching her pull another lock off a door while looking bored....

iZombie Season 3, Episode 2 Never has iZombiefelt more like Veronica Marsthan in this episode than in this ongoing iZombie Season 2 setup. (And, obviously, that’s a compliment.) Much like the set-up in Veronica Mars’sophomore season, which saw Veronica and co. dealing with the emotional and potentially criminal fallout of the bus accident, “Zombie Knows Best” sees Clive and Liv working to comprehend the murder of Wally and his family. “Zombie Knows Best” puts Clive front-and-center, proving what I think we all knew all along: this show should have given this character more to do a long time ago....

The main story is about an emotionally crippled delivery man who’s also got electrical powers, which he got when he replied to a newspaper small ad, and became part of an unusual science experiment. He’s not hungry for this power, he wants it removed, but that didn’t play as a title so well I assume. The real weakness of this episode however, is that it’s rather light on Walter (John Noble)....

‘The Cure’ is probably the strongest story yet, and surprisingly its focus is Olivia, with able support from Peter and Walter Bishop. This doesn’t appear to be a pattern event, as there is no bald man attending, but it’s curious enough for Agent Dunham and her gang of misfits to become involved. It soon becomes apparent that a pharmaceutical company has developed a means of weaponising people with their own organic microwave blast, and the first woman to explode was a field test....

Occasionally, though, fan frustration can result in something unexpectedly creative. Take ForSnyderCut, for example: a website set up by DC and Zack Snyder followers who want Warner Bros to put out a version of Justice League that hews more closely to the original director’s intentions. There’s also a detailed, reverse-chronological timeline, which serves as a primer for the whole Justice League situation. The project’s announcement back in 2014, back when Warner Bros was still in the process of building an interlinked superhero universe to rival the MCU....

As many developers quickly learn, you just can’t please everyone all the time, and no matter what your approach, or how imaginative you may be, stray off the beaten gaming path, and you’ll usually get praised and condemned in equal measure. Explaining what the game is about to the uninitiated who’s never seen or played the game is like describing nuclear physics to a gibbon, it’s impossible. Even people who’ve played the game through several times still struggle to make full sense of the plot, but this doesn’t mean that writing of the story is sloppy....

Then along would come Sunday and just when the hangover started to fade (around 5ish) what is affectionately known as ‘old people telly’ started to flood the system. Until this Sunday that is. Who’d have thought that a story about a country solicitor in a picturesque Norfolk town would have an increasingly old and increasingly cynical person like me, smiling and chuckling to myself over a programme I fear my parents perhaps also watch and enjoyed?...

Knightfall Episode 3 “It’s more than a symbol.” From the opening scene in which the brothers finally lay Godfrey to rest, “The Black Wolf and the White Wolf” insists on shunning subtlety and places the burial against Queen Joan throwing up into a bucket as she suffers from morning sickness. We know immediately where this is headed. Before we even have a chance to consider the implications of her condition, Philip admits his wife’s passion for him has disappeared and asks Landry, the presumed father of her child, to speak to Joan on his behalf....

Directed by Michael Dougherty, the man responsible for the Halloween-themed anthology Trick R Treat, it’s a cautionary tale about the dangers of losing the Christmas spirit. Max (Emjay Anthony) is a Christmas-loving kid who’s hoping for a celebration worthy of a Coca Cola advert, but when his horrible uncle, aunt, and cousins arrive, his dreams are dashed. Rather than post his letter to Santa, he rips it up and throws it out away, inadvertently summoning the Krampus – and all of his evil helpers....

There had been plenty of other attempts to bring Brainiac to life in live action, notably in Cary Bates’ excellent (but abandoned) script for Superman V in the early ’90s (which I’m going to have lots more details on for you soon), and he was the key villain in a number of abandoned attempts to revive Superman on the big screen throughout the ’90s, including Kevin Smith’s Superman Lives and the infamous Dan Gilroy/Tim Burton era of the project....

Penny Dreadful creator John Logan (who has also written feature scripts for movies like Skyfalland Hugo) has been tasked with penning the script for the Paramount adaptation. This won’t be the first time DiCaprio and Logan have worked together. Logan previously worked on the DiCaprio-led biopic The Aviator. Here’s the official synopsis of Leonardo da Vinci: As DiCaprio is about to start work on Quentin Tarantino’s next project, so it’s unclear when or if this project will make it past the script stage....

Usually, in the capricious world of TV, that would be it. But someone high up wanted this to succeed, and a whole new pilot was commissioned for this launch. But is this second try for Life On Mars an evolutionary step or a diversion to extinction? But the show’s biggest change is location: from L.A. to the far more interesting New York. I knew this was a much better choice from the outset, as they were able to use the twin towers as a massive visual hint to Sam that he wasn’t in 2008 any longer....

How do you know season 6 is awesome? We’re so far through the looking-glass that even Jack’s episode isn’t just watchable – it’s actively good. For a change, too, the on-island story followed right up on its most recent revelations. Admittedly, we didn’t see a lot of Sawyer and Smoke-Locke, but as for the news about characters who were “candidates” to replace Jacob, well, that got plenty of time spent on it....

More than most TV shows, Lost has been defined by its structure, dedicating itself to telling parallel, intertwined stories. First, we had three seasons where each episode contained flashbacks. Then, a season’s worth of flash-forwards. Then one which had flashbacks, forwards, and on at least one occasion, we had both in the same episode. For Season 6, one of the burning questions was related to exactly this matter. Where was there left to go?...

9 New Business New Business was a bridge, not a destination. As such, it’ll never be anyone’s favourite Mad Men episode but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a piece of crucial engineering. It took Don from cosy milkshake-making domesticity with Betty and the kids to an apartment stripped bare – a simplified flick-book reminder of his trajectory over the last decade, if you like. It also, with the help of a fat cheque, said goodbye to Megan (if not the entire Calvet clan, depending on how Marie and Roger get on) and shoved Betty towards her own potential ending....

Unfortunately, after some infighting and a spectacular snafu, the animals are on the run from the villainous French animal control officer Captain Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand) and her crew of mostly indestructible henchmen. Captain DuBois wants a lion head to complete her collection, and Alex is a lion, so you can kind of see why she’d want to hunt him down. Fortunately, the gang finds refuge in an unlikely place: a traveling circus....

Nibbler involves guiding a hungry snake around a maze, gobbling up food and avoiding the increasingly lengthy serpent’s own tail. Remember Snake, that game Nokia used to put on its mobile phones? It’s that with bells on. An arcade wizard like Tim McVey can get a score in the low billions – a feat which takes a punishing 40 hours to achieve. Feature-length documentary Man Vs Snake is about McVey and a couple of other gamers who possess the stamina, fleet fingers and psychological fortitude to tussle with an arcade machine for almost two days straight....

Phoenix An attractive woman bringing in her shopping after dark. A hooded ne’er-do-well lurking in the shrubbery. An irritating, yappy little dog with a face like a startled scrotum. If these images seem familiar for some reason (besides that of the the ballbag, hopefully), it is because the opening scene of this week’s episode whizzed by as one slasher movie cliché strung after another, intercut with a leatherclad MS Q....

Not that they chose to head down this road, but that they decided some rules to associate with it, but then fail to stick to their own guidelines. After being injected, Stephanie travels two days forwards and sees a dystopian future where they’re all being hunted, after it becomes public knowledge that they’re ‘supers’....
