It’s all getting darker and darker as we approach the witching hour in 24‘s latest troublesome day, and I don’t simply mean the lack of daylight. Quite a few story threads are woven a little tighter in this hour. Much of the episode spent time with Jack and Renee, in an increasingly tense situation with Russian weapons dealer Vlad. Jack is still unsure of Renee’s suitability to be in the field, and while his appeals fall on the deaf ears of Brian Hastings at CTU, Jack, as ever, is probably right....

But like Rasputin, Nailed has lingered on without Russell’s involvement. Missing pieces have been shot and put in place, and the finished film – now called Accidental Love – is credited to one Stephen Greene, an Alan Smithee-like pseudonym. The result is a fitfully amusing farce that can’t begin to hide the scars of its troubled production. Alice therefore heads to Washington DC to lobby a charismatic congressman, Howard Birdwell (Jake Gyllenhaal) to introduce a healthcare act for those with similarly curious injuries....

Agents of SHIELD Season 3 Episode 17 Before we begin, allow me to apologize in advance because this Agents of SHIELD review might seem a little incomplete and choppy. You see, my local ABC affiliate kept breaking in with results from the NY presidential primaries. Spoiler: Trump and Clinton won their respective events. So the next phase of HYDRA’s master plan takes a step closer to fruition. If I miss something, blame it on the election....

The story is split into two plots this week as Mack, Yo Yo, Flint, and the rest of the humans aboard Kasius’s slave station must fight for their survival while Coulson, Daisy, May, Fitz, Simmons, and Deke have to figure how to fly a decades old Zephyr off what is left of the Earth. It seems like Mack and his crew are at a grave disadvantage because how in the world could the always suspicious humans aboard the station ever unite to take the fight to Kasius?...

However, for the Dynamic Duo to maintain its credibility, it becomes necessary to untangle years of the continuity in order to reinvigorate the characters and indeed, to pay attention to wider social and cultural changes alongside evolutions in comic book narrative and art-style. The story takes us back to the origins of Dick Grayson’s first encounter with Bruce Wayne as he witnesses the murder of his parents before being whisked away by the bat-eared masked man....

The most obvious suggestion for this list is Scott Pilgrim. Not only is it released in the Manga format, it actually bases a lot of its story pacing and convention on shonen manga, meaning that it’ll be packed with references for manga fans and seem immediately familiar. Almost no other comic on the shelves bridges the gap quite so effortlessly and perfectly. The plot concerns the titular Scott Pilgrim, forced to fight the 7 evil exes of his new girlfriend....

1.1 The Bone Orchard From the opening moments, American Gods is nothing short of a reminder of other loved, lamented television projects from Bryan Fuller. A rich, dark colour palate dominates the cold open, which features Vikings arriving in America a hundred years before Leif Erikson’s famous cross-Atlantic voyage, and over 650 years prior to Christopher Columbus kicking off the colonisation of North and South America. These Vikings, expert sailors and valiant warriors, find this new world quite inhospitable....

I don’t have cable this year. This is due in part to the fact that I’m a millennial, and I’ve bucked the traditional television format in favor of Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO Go and the ESPN app, as we, the plugged in generation, are wont to do, getting all the entertainment we need on demand for a much cheaper price. It’s also because I’m broke. Nevertheless, when I’ve needed to review television shows like American Horror Story: Freak Show, that aren’t offered to critics in advance, I’ve had to find an inviting home with cable access to watch....

5.5 Room Service There’s a lot going on in every episode of American Horror Story, and sometimes it makes it difficult to figure out just how to sit down and write a review like this. I mean, when the show is full of plot elements, how can you really focus on one? Last week was easy; a serial killer dinner party is always going to be attention-grabbing, but this week’s episode had multiple fun things happening, so I guess I’ll just stop waffling and go right to the vampire children....

“No, I wiped them all off.” We do not need more cop shows. For as long as they’ve been around they’ve been crowding the television marketplace. Even now the number of cop series on television is in the double digits, with Brooklyn Nine-Nine effectively filling the comedic cop niche for three years now. But what we do need are more shows that have such a wonton disregard for reality and the rules that tether the universe down, and Angie Tribeca is that and then some....

The story set-up starts as you would expect little Annie (no longer referred to as an orphan but rather a foster child) is waiting for her parents to return, living in a girl’s home run by the drunk and disillusioned Miss. Hannigan (Cameron Diaz – more on her later). One day she literally runs into Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) the re-imagined Daddy Warbucks, who is an OCD cell phone giant, running for Mayor of New York....

“Guilty” opens with a double, even a triple whammy. It’s your expected solid Arrow opening action sequence. That’s good. It’s got more than one vigilante in full costume working the action, so that makes it even better. But when it’s Green Arrow and Arsenal just straight up out on the town fighting crime, and it’s not immediately a case that calls back to larger, season-heavy plots, well, that’s a “superhero patrol” if I’ve ever seen one, and we hit the DC Comics trifecta within minutes....

We finally know the identity of the mysterious Prometheus. The Arrowseason five villain was unmasked (at least to the viewers) in the middle of tonight’s episode. Prometheus is Adrian Chase, the seemingly benevolent District Attorney and friend to Oliver Queen. What does this reveal mean for Arrowmoving forward? Now that the formalities are out of the way, I can deal with each of these points. Walter Steele (Colin Salmon) is back after far too long an absence....

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 4 If the previous episode was a riveting horror indie throwback to Christine, this was its forgettable follow-up sequel that gave away too much in the exposition. This is not to say the episode wasn’t satisfying or that it isn’t an essential piece of season 2’s puzzle, it was just “…and here’s what happens next, folks!” As twisting, messy, and high-quality as last week’s episode was, that’s inevitable....
