The episode kicks off in the past where the dodgy Helen Cutter is yomping through a prehistoric wilderness (which looked a lot like Lanzarote) and while foraging for food gets attacked by a Terrasaur (you know one of those thingies from Jurassic Park 3 that was kept in the aviary) and promptly gets… well, a good kicking. Even though this would seem a weird way to start an episode it all makes sense after a while as Helen once again appears in the present, which adds to the continued back story of the show that seems to be the ability of some to open the anomalies themselves....

5.6 Phaecia This new season of Prison Break had the challenge of creating new ways for our team to ‘break out’. It may sound simple enough, but even in the original four seasons the show basically gave up having the main characters try to escape. It didn’t work. So how could they vary it? The past few weeks we’ve seen them break out of a prison and even the city....

1.1 The Bag or the Bat & 1.2 A Mouth is a Mouth With running length of half a day, it can be somewhat unfair to judge a show on a single episode. A series opener has so much introductory work to do that it’s only reasonable to expect that it will take more than a single instalment for a show to hit its stride. This is particularly the case with Ray Donovan, a programme that suffers from as many problems as it dramatises....

11.2 Samsara The television landscape has changed a lot since Red Dwarf made its debut back in 1988. One of the more interesting developments of the 21st century has been that, thanks in no small part to shows like Lost, non-linear storytelling is now as much a part of the language of television as the cliff-hanger or the third-act twist. In a series that has, with rare exceptions, always featured at least one of its regulars in any given scene, Samsara breaks with Red Dwarf convention in a major way....

As a child writing homework stories for year six English, I had a power move: I’d make the last line of a story the same as its title. My gripping home invasion thriller ‘A Hard Night’ thus ended with the main character remarking with some accuracy “It was a hard night.” Year-six-me would, I think, have smiled a special smile had she landed upon the idea of titling a murder tale the word ‘killer’ backwards and then telling the story backwards....

At the start of the episode, we are introduced to a prisoner who has made a suicide pact with his girlfriend on the outside. Having ingested an insane amount of drugs and rat poison, the convict, Rolf (Jim Shield), starts having a fit. Cue his arrival at Kingdom Hospital, where his operating experiences proves to be quite unlike any other. Gruesomely, the man’s eyes begin to bleed, before he sits bolt upright on the operating table and breaks out into a rendition of “Nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, goodbye”....

3.17 Sins Of The Father Despite this harsh attitude, Kurn deliberately goes easy on Worf, giving him sarcastically exaggerated praise, addressing him like a child, and making fun of his diet. Worf eventually snaps and attempts to fight Kurn, which causes him to reveal the truth: he’s actually Worf’s younger brother! What a twist! A twist with no foreshadowing! It turns out Kurn was staying with friends when Worf’s family was killed on Khitomer....

1.5 The Last Outpost The plot sees the Enterprise track a Ferengi vessel (which has stolen a T9 energy converter from a Federation relay station) to a remote planet. As well as making a measure of official (and somewhat antagonistic) contact with the Ferengi, they also find themselves united (sort of…) against a common foe. As an episode, it works surprisingly well. If you try to forget that you know anything about the Ferengi, it’s all quite tense, at first, and they spend a lot of time having meetings and conferences (which, I don’t know about you, is one of the things I love about the show....

But with great timepiece comes great responsibility. Bernard – who was played by David Peachey for the first five seasons, and then Ryan Watson for the show’s final two runs – was thrust into some moralistic quandaries by his handy stopwatch. Let’s look back at some of the most morally questionable moments from the show… But one of Bernard’s fundamental rules is that he cannot use his gift for crime....

Well, it’s flu season. And she does. Rick’s consecutive failures are the backdrop for the development of his and Morty’s relationship, as well as for Morty’s parents, Jerry and Beth. As the situation gets progressively more horrifying, Rick and Morty are forced to accept their roles in it: Morty for being a selfish creep talking Rick into making the love potion in the first place and Rick for being the callous asshole he typically is, so certain of his own success that he inadvertently decimates humanity....

Rick and Morty Season 3 Episode 10 Maybe it was the long wait before it returned, or maybe it’s the fact that it feels like we only got nine episodes because one had already aired months previously, or maybe it’s just that I was having such a gosh darn good time and time flies when etc., etc. Whatever the reason, season three came and went too soon. Oddly, however, even though I found this mostly a very strong season for character and storytelling, looking back, it seems more like a series of silly, self-contained romps, which is fine!...

The movie opens with Riddick having what he generously describes as “a legendary bad day”. Double-crossed by the Necromongers – the cult-like warrior race from the previous film – he’s left for dead on a godforsaken desert planet full of various slithering, toothsome monsters. Feasting on alien eel meat and befriending a dog-type-thing dubbed a ‘dingo-jingo’, Riddick forges a passable existence on this lonely rock – until two factions of bounty hunters show up, both intent on capturing Riddick either dead or alive....

Scandal Season 6 Episode 5 It has definitely been a minute since we have had some serious Jake screen time since the start of the season. Perhaps to suggest that he, too, has been absent from his own life on the show. We got to learn about what Jake has been up to from a series of flashbacks during the election, to continuous mysterious disappearances into the present. Vanessa, in the present, seems to be spiraling out of control involving herself in a drunk driving accident and refusing to stand by Jake’s side any longer after his coldness and distance from her, as he continues to lean on Olivia for guidance....

1.4 Aftermath Well, it’s definitely not Tyler O’Neill. Of course, we as the audience have known from the first few minutes of the Scream TV pilot that Tyler had met an arguably even more gruesome fate than Nina’s; he’s just had the posthumous misfortune of disappearing. In the wake of Nina and Riley’s murders and Rachel’s non-suicide, then, he has naturally become person of interest #1 to most. The fact that his phone has been sending messages only seems to confirm his involvement–as does the discovery of his charred, decapitated body in the wreckage of Riley’s presumed killer’s car this week....

Last episode, before the winter hiatus, viewers were introduced to a Boston Brand-like demon that can jump from living body to living body. This demon has it in for Captain Irving and has threated his wheelchair-bound daughter in order to retrieve George Washington’s Bible, a sacred book that seemingly possesses the key to defeat the demon Moloch. The body-hopping demon, like most of the demons and beasties presented in Sleepy Hollow, is pretty damn scary and the show plays up the threat of the creature very well....

Released in January, the first volume of Snowpiercer is exploding with innovation. However, like most return journeys Snowpiercer, Vol. 2: The Explorers doesn’t quite merit the same enthusiasm or thrills as the initial trip. The obvious main reason for this is that original writer Jacques Lob died in 1990, leaving Benjamin Legrand (a prolific French novelist and comic writer himself) the uneviable task of continuing the story. To his credit, Legrand seems more interested in opening up the Snowpiercer universe than merely rehashing Lob’s ideas…for better or worse....

6.11 Aon Rud Pearsanta You also have to hand it to the writing staff for continually making Jax the most consistently deviously clever character on television. It does not hurt that the brilliant Charlie Hunnam always manages to keep us slightly off-guard in regards to being able to see the full extent of Jax’s motivations. Additionally, Gemma may be a human being after all as we see her break down and accept sympathy from Tara, try to help Wendy back on her feet, acknowledge the fact that Wayne has always been good to her, and read to her grandson, the latter proving that she can be a nurturing mother when she wants to be....

This review contains spoilers. Well, that happened. It’s fair to say that Spartacus is a show that isn’t shy about killing off its cast, no matter how well-liked or famous they might be. The impressive thing is that whenever it happens, you’re still surprised. I admit, I was expecting Lucretia to be the one doing that particular deed, but she got a better fate: going completely mental at the final moment....

It’s a disappointing read for anyone who is a fan of Fuller — which is to say, anyone who is a fan of imaginative, high-quality, ambitious television — but it also sheds some light on which contributions Fuller made to the tone, story, and vision of Discovery before his departure. It also might make you angry with CBS. According to the article, Fuller originally pitched CBS not just one Star Trek series, but multiple serialized anthology shows akin to American Horror Story....
