Doctor Who Series 5 Episode 5 Flesh And Stone Review

“That’s a fairytale”“Aren’t we all?” And quite a scary one too. Lesser writers could have easily recycled their monsters from yesteryear and just dished up more of the seem. Here, Steven Moffat subtlely evolves his weeping angels. The moment near the back of the episode where they start to move was utterly, utterly creepy, and throughout the episode, he still manages to generate jumps from creatures who had seemingly gone through their playbook last time we met them....

Doctor Who Tops Saturday Ratings At 9 4 Million

It blew everything else that crossed the airwaves on Saturday into spacedust, topping the next highest rated shows on BBC or ITV by 5m – and topping ITV’s direct competition to it by a whopping 7m , a little revenge for the embarrassment of losing out to Britain’s Got Fecking Talent earlier in the series. If nothing that aired yesterday managed to top it (and the numbers for the late-night finish to the Wimbledon final and British GP are not in yet), it’ll apparently be the most viewed TV show of the week, the first time in 45 years it’s ever managed to get to number one in the weekly ratings....

Dollhouse Episode 11 Review

So why is that bad? Because if every Dollhouse episode has been as good as this then I’d be the first person in the queue demanding it return, except for each as well crafted as this was we’ve been subjected to three or four like the season opener, or the terrible one about the cultists. It’s obvious at this point that the parallel between the story and Paul Ballard’s attempts to wake Echo from her 100 years slumber are intentional, and this concept is developed cleverly during the story....

Dominion Black Eyes Blue Review

First, let’s talk about the concept of “evictions”—what Dominion calls exorcisms. As one might expect, evictions are a risky, dangerous business, both to the host and to the lower angel. Together, host and lower angel comprise an eight-ball. And, as we find out via Claire’s possessed mother, Clementine, lower angels don’t necessarily completely take over their host vessels. Instead, they have the ability to coexist with their human host’s psyche—that is, if the lower angel deigns to allow their human host to exist....

Dynasty Episode 5 Review Company Slut

Dynasty Episode 5 Everyone goes to work, but only Steven seems to get anything done in this episode of Dynasty. The ladies, meanwhile, have a thoroughly boring take on some Lean In-style BS. When the intrigue and meddling work, Dynasty becomes a lot more fun. While the reveal that Anders was the puppet master behind ousting Steven’s ex caught me off guard, it’s always more fun to catch glimpses of whatever game is afoot and try to piece together what’s going on, or else watch two opposing forces snipe and scrap their way to a finish line....

Earliest Version Of Turn Turn Turn Found

Such is the case of a Pete Seeger demo of the song “Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season).” A one-sided vinyl acetate, which turn turn turns at 78 RPMs, of Seeger’s signature piece was discovered in a private collection,” according to Variety. The demo was recorded and pressed sometime around 1961. The rendition may be the earliest known recording of the song. “Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season)” went on to get electrified by the 12-string guitar folk rock band The Byrds in 1965....

Elementary Terri Pericolosa Review

About twenty minutes into the episode, as Sherlock was further expounding on cartographer, my roommate who was casually sauntering through the room muttered the following: “Boy, someone on the writing staff fell into a Wikipedia hole, huh?” That’s exactly what all the hoopla with the maps felt like: Enthusiastic amateur research. That’s all well and good. Amateur research has its place, but I think we can all agree that it’s not on a TV drama airing on primetime network television....

Elementary Season 2 Episode 17 Review Ears To You

2.17 Ears To You It wasn’t the severed human ears in a box that really got me – crime TV viewers have seen appendages aplenty sliced, iced and delivered by FedEx in our time – but the ones growing out of a woman’s back. That, even for a seasoned detective drama fan, was a first. (Why Sarah Cushing decided to grow two ears when surely one would do is anybody’s guess....

Emerald City Episode 7 Review They Came First

Emerald City Episode 7 “They Came First” dealt with the fallout from last week’s stakes-raising installment of Emerald City, which started to make characters choose side in this cold (probably soon to be hot) war between The Wizard and Glinda. The decisiveness of both “Beautiful Wickedness” and tonight’s “They Came First” has made this show much better. I still don’t like some of the charaters I think I am supposed to like (namely, Dorothy), don’t find the characters I am supposed to find interesting interesting (namely, The Wizard), but there’s a lot to like about this story as it ups the ante towards its inevitable climax....

Falling Skies Season 2 Episode 9 Review The Price Of Greatness

2.9 The Price Of Greatness As it turns out, getting used to life with all the comforts of home isn’t going to be easy. The 2nd Mass has spent a lot of time fighting with the alien menace, while Charleston has spent a lot of time hiding from the alien menace. They have guns, but don’t know how to use them and don’t have a lot of combat experience, but they do have a state of governance, and that government has a system: go along to get along....

Fox Sports Executives Reportedly Backstage At Wwe Smackdown

WWE’s television deal with NBC Universal, which expires in Sept. 2019, reportedly pays the company about $180 million per year. Last night, according to a report from Sports Illustrated, Fox Sports executives and on-air talent were in attendance for a WWE SmackDown Live taping at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. WWE and Fox are rumored to be in the middle of a courtship, with Fox potentially losing the UFC when its deal expires later this year....

Free State Of Jones Review

Upon witnessing the death of a young southern farm boy, Knight becomes jaded by gruelling battlefield life and seeks to bring an uprising against the corrupt local Confederate government. The impenetrable Jones County swamps offer an unprejudiced haven for army deserter Knight alongside an escaped band of knowledgeable plantation slaves. The ultimate encapsulation as a figure of defiance Knight leads a guerrilla militia (comprised of slaves, absconders and women) in search of political justice....

Fringe Season 3 Episode 19 Review Lysergic Acid Diethylamide

3.19 Lysergic Acid Diethylamide I’m so happy to say that those behind this unique show weren’t influenced by me, or those who didn’t care for such flights of fancy. Because Lysergic Acid Diethylamide isn’t just a walk on the creative wild side, but something marvellously anarchic that rarely makes it onto TV. The story flips off last week’s revelations that the occupation of Olivia’s body by the soul of William Bell wasn’t something that could be easily managed....

Fringe Season 3 Episode 20 Review 6 02 Am Est

3.20 6:02 AM EST With some small exceptions, 6:02 AM EST was largely exposition, often laced with diversions, as the Fringe team, in general, and Peter, in particular, grappled with the implications of the machine getting activated on the other side. The drawing with Peter strapped in the machine foretold, many episodes back, where we would eventually go. It was just a matter of time before we got there, and that time is upon us....

Fringe Season 3 Episode 4 Review Do Shapeshifters Dream Of Electric Sheep

There’s an unrelenting focus in the new Fringe series that’s undeniable. Where it’s generally always been interesting, it’s had its diversions into indulgence in the past, most notably the music episode last season. But, so far season 3 has executed like a narrative machine, driving forward plot, possibly at the loss of more character moments, at a significantly enhanced pace. The Philip K. Dick-referenced title, Do Shapeshifters Dream of Electric Sheep?...

Fringe Season 3 Episode 6 Review 6955 Khz

3.6 6955 kHz I’ve seen a few people complaining that Fringe is now so focused on the bigger plot that it’s actually missing out on the quirky and odd stories that were at one point its trademark. Up till now I haven’t accepted this, because I’ve been enjoying the larger narrative, but 6955 kHz has made me consider that the sand piling exercise they’ve got very deep into now isn’t delivering on some levels....

Fringe Season 3 Episode 7 Review The Abducted

3.7 The Abducted The basic story of abducted children used to inject youth back into an ageing man is pure X-Files – so much so that I half expected Scully to actually turn up at one point. But separating it from that show was the twist that virtually the entire episode took place in the parallel dimension, where time is rapidly running out for Olivia. She knows how to get back to our dimension, it’s just that she’s rather occupied with this case, which also has interesting overtones for the alternate Boyles....

Game Of Thrones Nudity Scandal Reveals Major Spoiler For Season 5

Holding major sway over the Croatian government, the Church of St. Nicholas is loudly protesting an upcoming scene intended to be shot in Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is doubling for the streets of King’s Landing. The scene, which involves an actress walking outside in the complete nude, has crossed the religious leaderships’ line over “public displays of sexuality.” What’s more interesting is how it reveals a major spoiler for both what will come in season five of Game of Thrones, and how the show is radically intending to adapt the fourth and fifth “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels by George R....

Geeks Vs Loneliness Overthinking Things

This week, we’re handing over to the brilliant Charlotte Harrison… This went on for quite a bit. Calling it a stream of consciousness would be both needlessly flattering or a massive understatement. Then she did something unexpected. She sighed. Then she said, “The thing is Charlotte. You seem to spend your life overthinking things.” Now was my turn to pause. Was this some sort of trick? To make an obvious statement and see how I’d react?...
