Resurrection Insomnia Review

Tonight’s dream sequence sees a swat team bursting into the Langston home and taking Jacob away, but then Bellamy awakes. What a bummer! I’d love to see the FBI come in guns up and shake awake the town of Arcadia. I’d love to see complications and some stakes start to arise, but it doesn’t happen. The whole episode is pretty much dedicated to making sure that doesn’t happen. The once feuding Sheriff Frank and Agent Bellamy reach an uneasy alliance to ensure the FBI investigation of Caleb Richards doesn’t lead them to Jacob....

Revisiting Kingdom Hospital Episode 6

Strangely, Rickman has been dragging along his drip behind him in the afterlife, I wouldn’t have thought there’d be any need for one when you’re a ghost, but there you go. He plus the drip into the ant eater, saving his life. Elmer’s affections for Lona are squashed when she slaps him across the face, cuts up a rose he gave her, and tells him to leave her alone. In an attempt to make Lona pay for rejecting him, Elmer tracks down the corpse from the last episode – the one who looked like his twin brother – and cuts off the head, puts it in a bag, and leaves it where Lona will see it....

Revisiting Star Trek Tng Pen Pals

2.14 Pen Pals Crusher assembles his team, but worries about his authority. Riker and Troi assure him he’ll be fine. Meanwhile, Data has got his CB radio out and is scanning for RF signals. In a moment of staggeringly unlikely coincidence, he picks up a signal from a young girl asking “Is anybody out there?” – to which he immediately replies “Yes.” Eight weeks pass off screen. Yes, that’s right EIGHT WEEKS....

Revisiting Star Trek Tng The Big Goodbye

1.12 The Big Goodbye It all starts when Picard is struggling with his homework, which consists of memorising a ridiculously complicated greeting for the Jaradan race, who are sticklers for correct procedure. After being told to take it easy, he decides the best recipe for success in this area is to head down to the holodeck. Clearly, this is an insane decision for anyone wanting a little R&R, but because it’s only season one he doesn’t know that yet....

Ripper Street Series 3 Episode 5 Review Heavy Boots

3.5 Heavy Boots The first half of this series and the majority of the second spent a lot of time tearing the great Edmund Reid down, either through his own design or Jedidiah Shine’s. After last week’s chance at redemption with his daughter and his near-martyrdom in stopping Capshaw, a curious mythology has sprung up around him in Whitechapel. The opening scenes with the ballad of Ed Reid in the pub establishes an odd melancholic celebration of the inspector’s impending death, one which continues when Jackson and Drake are introduced....

Scandal Season 7 Episode 11 Review Army Of One

Scandal Season 7 Episode 11 One-time political female besties reach an impasse in the aftermath of the strategic assassination. In real life and on television, most journeys are personal and individual. No one believes in your cause more than you do. Friends and allies want you to remain in a comfortable and familiar place even though you’re ready to move on to the next step on your desired path. Olivia’s no different from the rest of us and her former gladiators....

South Park Season 21 Episode 7 Review Doubling Down

South Park: Season 21, Episode 7 Giving Cartman a girlfriend is one of the funniest character moves South Park has ever pulled. It was fun to watch him turn into a happier, better person for a little while and then even more fun to see his true prickish self re-emerge. I just love how much he hates being in a relationship. I think I would’ve enjoyed it for quite a while longer if the relationship existed mostly as a running gag (Heidi shows up, Eric’s face falls, he puts the bare minimum effort into responding to her, and then she leaves)....

Spartacus Gods Of The Arena Episode 5 Review Reckoning

Reckoning Lies, secrets, guilt and betrayal have always been a part of Spartacus: Blood And Sand, but one fails to think of an episode when so many subplots have come together to unleash a complete clusterfuck of tragedy, loss, and in a strange way, honour. So, let’s jump straight in, shall we? Firstly, Gannicus and Melitta are still sharing lustful glances across the ludos, and despite their mutual love and respect for Oenomaus, their desire for each other is jeopardising their lives....

Spartacus Gods Of The Arena Episode 6 Review The Bitter End Series Finale

The Bitter End As the final episode draws to a close, not only are all the storylines nicely wrapped up, but future character conflicts are expanded upon, past differences resolved and the seeds for an epic ‘second’ season are planted. At the end of the last episode, the deaths of Titus and Melitta had shaken the House of Batiatus to its foundations. Not only was Batiatus set on vengeance, but he now had the backing of the fearsome and grief-stricken Oenomaus and Gannicus....

Spider Man Soundtrack From 90S Animated Series Released

Until recently, much of this music has never been heard outside of fan bootlegs until now. Udi Harpaz uploaded nine of his tracks from the series to Soundcloud, which you can listen to below. The release of this music is one of the few times ’90s Spider-Man fans have seen a legitimate release from the series, at least in North America. A few scattered episodes were released on DVD back in the early 2000s, and it has been available to stream on services from time to time, but since then there’s been nothing....

Star Crossed Episode 2 Review These Violent Delights Have Violent Ends

1.2 These Violent Delights Have Violent Ends We start with an explosive attack, which introduces the idea of two militant groups on either side – the Red Hawks representing the humans and the Trags on the side of the Atrians. Of course, both Emery and Roman are mixed up with these groups one way or another after the killing of Roman’s activist father last week and, although the lack of punishment for Emery’s own father hasn’t gone unnoticed, it hasn’t yet caused a complete meltdown of the system....

Star Crossed Episode 3 Review Our Toll Shall Mend To Strive

1.3 Our Toll Shall Mend To Strive I understand that the budget just isn’t there for a show like Star-Crossed but, with The Sector being all we’ve got to look at in regards to the Atrians world, it’s hard to empathise with that extremist section of their community. Are their missing families really alive and well on another planet? Since they mentioned the possibility in this episode, then it’s a safe bet we’ll be taking a trip to Eljida sometime before the first season is over, and I wonder whether these people will bring peace or even more war to the already fraught conflict....

Star Wars Canto Bight Review

Star Wars: Canto Bight introduces the glittering casino city Finn and Rose will visit in The Last Jedi. It’s a circus act of a book, energetic and colorful. The format itself is a new trick: a novel-sized collection of four novellas, it mixes the variation of Tales From anthologies with the detail allowed by the novella form. Canto Bight includes some of the establishments featured in the film, including the Canto Bight Police Department and the planet’s huge artificial sea....

Star Wars The Clone Wars An Old Friend Review

The fact that she’s married in secret means that he attempts significant stares (still The Clone Wars’ preferred method of indicating romance since the Onderon arc) but she completely ignores them. Anakin, however, does not. Anakin’s rage takes over him in this episode, and his possessiveness is in-character but annoying. “I was going to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters” is more appropriate for a backwater farm boy than Anakin’s sarcastic “We can only hope” is for a Jedi Knight....

Star Wars The Clone Wars Episode 19 Review

WARNING: This review contains Spoilers that may ruin your enjoyment of this episode It’s a rather dry tale with Ahsoka doing her usual routine with Anakin, disobeying him and putting people (well, Clones anyway) in danger. Unusually for the series, it’s dialogue heavy with few set pieces, though they are, as always, spectacular. The Clone Wars does ‘space’ scenes very well with the ships and battles having a real presence (sometimes more so than the characters) and are beautiful to watch....

Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Episode 6 Review Flight Of The Defender

Star Wars Rebels: Season 4 Episode 5 “Flight of the Defender” was a very mystical episode, adding some of the less definable aspects of the Force to a fun, high-energy adventure. From an opening in which exposition is smoothed out by the presence of a pack of loth-cats, “Flight of the Defender” barrels along with mostly satisfying contributions from Thrawn and Pryce and an ending that’s bound to leave a lot of questions....

Stargate Universe Episode 5 Review

I’m not a fan of ‘previously’s in the first place, but it’s just struck me how annoying the one for Stargate Universe is currently. It’s the same 30 seconds played every week, followed by a miniscule title sequence that pales in comparison to the previous series’ epic efforts. I know it may seem a bit unfair to pick these little things out as faults when the rest of the series performs so well in other aspects, but for me it seems unfair not too....

Supergirl Manhunter Review

Supergirl Season 1, Episode 17 If this week’s Supergirl had just had the backstories of J’onn and Jeremiah it would have been sufficient – a bit expository perhaps, but no one would have complained. In fact, seeing the real Hank Henshaw and the story behind how J’onn came to care for the Danvers girls made up for the somewhat predictable witch hunt perpetrated by Colonel James Harper with help from the sometimes insufferable Lucy Lane....

Supernatural Holy Terror Review

In this episode, the opening teaser ended with a bloody battle between some wholesome pink-clad Glee Club members and rough bikers in a bar. Or at least that’s how it looked from the outside. It’s angel against angel. After falling from Heaven and with no guidance from the man who’s supposed to be upstairs, the angels have split into factions, some siding with Bartholomew and others with Malachi. Not only are the angels causing a lot of hell with each other, they’ve also been merciless in obtaining their human vessels, which leads to the occasional Scanners style head explosion....

Supernatural Slumber Party Review

The return of Charlie is a highlight. She’s a bright eyed, geeky optimist, who now takes part in some hunting of her own but wishes it was all a bit more magical. She’s a great foil to the Dorothy character, who is a bit more gruff in nature. They naturally become a team at one point. Since revealing Charlie to be a lesbian in an earlier Charlie-centric episode, I’m surprised she doesn’t hit on Dorothy....
