Really, it takes a show as brilliant as Orphan Black to make something called “Family Day” so ominous. As Alison is stuck in rehab, she and her new BFF Victor prepare for Family Day; a chance for Alison to show her family that she is still their stable mommy but, like her community theatre debacle, disaster is foreshadowed at every turn. Alison wanted to forge new bonds of trust so badly that she confided in former abusive drug dealer turned Buddhist turned police informant Victor that she slept with her old BFF’s husband… and then kinda sorta murdered her....

Heyman sat down for an interview with Renee Young discussing Brock Lesnar attacking him last week and saying that Heyman was his employee, and they were never friends. Heyman was nothing short of brilliant in the four-minute segment. Wrestling oftentimes strays away from real reactions and instead wrestlers are forced to come up with contrived and often corny versions of real-life responses. Heyman didn’t do that here. He reacted the way that a real person would have reacted in the same circumstance....

Peaky Blinders, a new six-part series about a gang of bookmakers in post-WWI Birmingham, does exactly that. What follows sets the pieces on the board for a satisfyingly complex serial. Tommy and his family – including a magnificent Helen McCrory as matriarch Aunt Pol – are variously at war or in bed with Communist agitators, gypsies, Italians, racetrack kings… and their chief opposition, CI Campbell, imported from Belfast to clean up Birmingham’s streets and retrieve a stolen shipment the British government desperately needs found....

Whether it’s the best series yet is debatable. My personal favourite is series four as this was the first time signs of genuine affection were apparent between Mark and Jeremy. It also featured the burgeoning relationship between Mark and Sophie, so long the object of his affections, and the return of American nymph Nancy. Throw in a truly excellent wedding, accusations of defecating in a swimming pool and the burning of a dog (that episode featuring a surprisingly passable performance from Katy Brand) and you have Peep Show gold....

For years, Holmes has been sitting down to long conversations with comedians, some actors too. Some his closest friends and others he’s never met before. Regardless of their stature in his life, he and his guests open up like two old friends at the end of the bar. Nothing is off-limits and Holmes is quick to share the most intimidate details of his life. Now, that almost therapeutic riff that he’s found is taking on new form in his upcoming HBO series Crashing....

In 2016 the finale of Dino Super Charge aired and it was controversial at best. We reviewed it at the time but the biggest take away was that the Rangers actions in the past caused the dinosaurs to never be wiped out by the comet. When they returned to present day they learned dinosaurs were a common part of everyday life. They even wore Santa hats on Christmas. We can’t make this stuff up....

In this scene we see Jake leering at Gia, a recurring element since the very first episode of Megaforce. Jake wants to get with Gia but he’s made little headway. It’s still creepy every time he does it, especially with that perv smile he makes whenever he even touches Gia. I get that Jake is supposed to be a teenage boy and thus an idiot, but I wish Super Megaforce would finally show some consequence for his actions....

Blessed with a marketing hook trumpeting Scott’s return to both the Alien franchise and sci-fi filmmaking in general, ever since its initial announcement in 2009, Prometheus has been the recipient of a seemingly endless tide of goodwill from fans and critics alike. It’s therefore a shame to report that Prometheus: The Movie doesn’t come close to delivering anywhere near the thrills, excitement and clarity of Prometheus: The Marketing Exercise. Sadly, the warning signs are there from the opening sequence which, for better or worse, attempts to fuse together a montage of the primordial Earth, an alien spacecraft floating above a roaring waterfall and a mysterious hooded figure painfully sacrificing himself to initiate the beginning of life on Earth....

After the success of last year’s well-received Resident Evil Remastered, Capcom has now given the same welcomed treatment to Resident Evil Zero, a prequel game set just before the events at the mansion that started it all. The game puts players in the dual role of S.T.A.R.S. medic Rebecca Chambers and mysterious newcomer, Billy Coen, and attempts to shed more light on the true horrors behind all of that shady Umbrella business....

Anyway. Previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, love sucked. The extra-long previously-on recaps the Buffy and Spike situation, i.e. that she used him for sex and then he tried to rape her before getting his soul restored; the Xander and Anya situation, i.e. he left her at the altar and she reverted to her vengeance demon self; and the Willow situation, i.e. Tara got shot and then Willow killed people....

1.3 The Naked Now Ooo-kay. The Naked Now is a sequel/tribute to the classic (ahem) Star Trek episode, The Naked Time, this episode sees the crew of the Enterprise getting a little worse for wear as a result of exposure to some kind of virally-transmitted water molecule that turns you into a space-lush, drunker than a Klingon on Kahless’ birthday. Quite why anyone felt that the best way to ease us into our second adventure with the new Trek cast was to throw in an episode where everyone acts vastly out of character, I’ll never quite understand, but perhaps there’s value in understanding the characters’ various neuroses early on....

3.25 Transfigurations The Enterprise is enjoying some quiet time (Picard’s phrase, not mine) so Geordie and Worf are hanging out in Ten Forward. Geordi is trying to catch the attention of Christy Henshaw, but is too shy to go and talk to her. When La Forge tries to stop Worf staring, Worf advises him that “you must let her see the fire in your eyes” – apparently oblivious to Geordi’s lack of visible eyes....

Jess (Scarlett Johansson) is the bride-to-be; a driven senatorial candidate who’s taking a weekend off from her campaign for her bachelorette party. Her college friends Alice (Jillian Bell), Blair (Zoë Kravitz) and Frankie (Ilana Glazer), and her Australian friend Pippa (Kate McKinnon) converge on Miami for a boozy, drug-fuelled weekend away that quickly spirals out of control after the accidental death of a male stripper in their party house. The most common thread among the less favourable reviews of Rough Night has been its relative safety....

Well, we still don’t have a robotic sidekick in the form of Proton Arnold to work alongside Team Scorpion and make sure these geniuses are safe, which is not an encouraging sign, but let’s not try to hold that against the show too much now. It’s very stupid and cliché, but it’s addressing the outlandish nature of this show in the first place. Not long after we see the gang taking very real gunfire in Bosnia and fearing for their lives as this silly earlier image is undercut completely....

The world existed happily thus, as it should, with everything and everyone in their assigned caste, until one day an unexpected development struck to irreparably upset the status quo: I looked over and saw her, the girl of my then dreams, walking towards me. I can remember, as if yesterday, her remarkable ability to turn every word my brain sent to my mouth into a gallon of gooey saliva, and I also recall noticing with pathetic joy that she was even more beautiful close up, skin so perfect, eyes crystalline azure....

Here are Holmes’ musical highlights, from Buster Keaton through to Benedict Cumberbatch. There have been many musical interpretations of Sherlock Jr. over the years but the irrepressibly snappy sound of the Club Foot Orchestra (formed in 1983) is now synonymous with Keaton’s classic pratfalling, beautifully accentuating every physical movement with balletic grace. This review contains spoilers if you haven’t yet seen the episode. This week’s Sons Of Anarchy, Turning And Turning, isn’t a terrible episode by any stretch of the imagination, but considering the way the season has been building so far, it feels a little disappointing. Let’s start from the top, then. The good news is that the separate strands of plot are tying together and, as a whole, the story is gaining more momentum....

That’s the core of the movie we get, and it’s a choice that really pays dividends. In a film with some well-delivered rug pulls, perhaps the biggest achievement is that Spider-Man: Homecoming turns out to be a very good high school movie most of all, only occasionally tugged back by the Avengers film that keeps creeping in around the edges. It’s spoiling nothing to say that the aforementioned call from Mr Stark and co doesn’t immediately come, and thus Spider-Man: Homecoming grounds itself in more domestic matters....

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Episode 4 “The Last Battle” is a farewell and a celebration, a re-creation of the Clone Wars in the days of the Empire. It’s also a re-creation of The Clone Wars in Rebels, with a lot to unpack about the relationship between the two shows and the dynasties they portray. Writer Brent Friedman paces the episode well and gives unique voices to both Rex and Ezra....
