The legions of fans on websites and message boards were answered when it was revealed that a two-part film would be broadcast over the Easter weekend. Dog Day Afternoon is one of my favorite movies. Directed by a former Dead End Kid, Sidney Lumet, and starring Al Pacino in an instantly iconic role. It wasn’t iconic just because of the great acting, it was original, daring and ahead of its time. John Wojtowicz, the Dog in The Dog and Dog Day Afternoon, was original, daring and ahead of his time. Wojtowicz pretty much loved Dog Day Afternoon and when he got out of prison after completing a six-year sentence he rechristened himself Dog....
Channel Four’s The Fear, written by Richard Cottan (Wallander), had an interesting premise: If dementia can make gentle people violent and turn banal memories into a source of torment for the sufferer, then what would it do to an already-violent man whose past contains acts of real horror? Since Tony Soprano first squeezed his hulk into Dr Melfi’s psychiatrist chair, the gangster-with-issues conceit has been a familiar one. People are fascinated by the minds of killers and psychopaths, the argument must run, so watching those minds disintegrate should be double bubble for viewers....
For the first time since Batman and Robin fought The Green Hornet and Kato back in 1967, we have two costumed superheroes duking it out on the small screen. “Flash vs. Arrow” may not have the budget or the star power of something like Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it knew exactly what it was doing, it did it well, and most impressively, it got it done in one episode....

Going from being a guest star to recurring character to spinoff series regular is a dream come true for any actor. Going into her first episode, “The Purge,” Buckmaster had no idea Sheriff Donna would become a familiar face on the show. She described the scene when she’s laying on the bed before the fat-sucking monster gets her, director Phil Sgriccia mentioned that it might be a good idea for Sheriff Donna and Jody to meet at a Sheriff’s convention, and the A Camera Operator said it sounded like a spinoff....
The film is based on the novel of the same name, written by a Swedish husband and wife team under the pseudonym Lars Kepler, and it contains every element you would expect from a Scandinavian crime drama, including snowscapes and jumpers and the occasional moment of extreme violence that takes you by surprise. All that snow has an almost soporific effect and then – bam! Out of nowhere somebody gets murdered....
So May 4th is Star Wars Day, and why not? The saga deserves an annual celebration. We live in a society that marks nonsense holidays that mean very little and are only really about lauding spurious saints, selling products or encouraging people to drink excessively. People take the aforementioned holidays too seriously and spend serious amounts of money and energy on them, which is why it’s refreshing when off-the-wall oddities like International Talk Like a Pirate Day, Towel Day (for Douglas Adams fans) and 4/20 (for smoking copious amounts of cannabis) pop up and make things more interesting....
