But as it turns out Richard can’t even cheat properly....

The third-time director saw 37 scripts rejected when he first came to Hollywood before he sold the screenplay for Continental Divide to Steven Spielberg. In 1979 he was recruited to finish the screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back after Leigh Brackett died....

Alo lives a nomadic carefree existence, which doesn’t sit well with his strict farming mother. Seems his life of weed smoking, partying and elaborate wanking over Cathy Barry eating a banana has been getting in the way of his studies at Roundview. So, his parents have decided the only way to instil some discipline into their layabout son is to take him out of college and get him working on the farm....

His past efforts also prove that he’s not afraid to take on any genre, with Sci-Fi and Horror nestling comfortably alongside more homespun dramatic releases. From the first glimpses of the trailer of Slumdog Millionaire, it’s a little unclear as to which genre box this will fit in. Like many modern trailers, this gives away little about the actual plot – remember the days when movies’ entire storylines, including the endings, would be carelessly shown in teasers?...

Last week I spent the episode trying to beat myself into unconsciousness with my keyboard so I would not have to witness Sutter’s annual descent into ridiculousness. Sigh. Oh lawd, the ridiculousness. Like most viewers I felt angry, betrayed, and deeply saddened that I am so attached to a bunch of stupid television characters that I care enough to feel angry and betrayed by bad writing. At any rate, tonight’s episode got Jax and company back on track....

The last iterations of Harlock’s adventures have been criticized somewhat for not availing themselves of the latest technological advancements and trends in animation. Harlock, it would appear, was a throwback, stuck in the 70s. The teaser trailer showed during the Tokyo Anime Fair promised to deliver what fans had been waiting for. The visuals were spectacular, but fans had to wait another three years or more to finally see the new movie, and it was worth the wait, at least from a visuals standpoint....

Title-wise, Spies of Warsaw doesn’t mess about. No figurative Parade’s End or The Crimson Petal and the White evasion for this BBC period adaptation; it’s a story about spies, in Warsaw. Specifically, it’s a story about a French spy – David Tennant’s Jean-François Mercier – in 1937 Warsaw, so is packed with European interbellum angst and dramatic irony of the ‘Bah! Germany won’t attack France through Belgium!’ sort. Part one sees Col....

During a Star Wars Celebration panel on Thursday titled, Dave Filoni: Animated Origins and Unexpected Facts, Filoni, also a primary visionary behind The Clone Wars during its 2008-2015 run, explains nixed plans for a potentially classic confrontation between the movie franchise’s stoic, helmeted, Mandalorian-cloned, Sarlacc-bound bounty hunter Boba Fett and the Duros alien, retro-western-styled gunslinger bounty hunter Cad Bane, a prominent antagonist throughout The Clone Wars series. Filoni proved this by showing the unfinished sequence as is, which was destined for a season of the series that ultimately never came to fruition....

Dragon’s Lair featured animation from another ’80s icon, Don Bluth, who rose to pop culture prominence after directing 1982’s The Secret of NIMH, which the boys probably loved. Also note: nobody in the history of humankind was ever actually good at Dragon’s Lair, which is one of the most notoriously frustrating and difficult quarter eaters to ever darken the doorstep of your local Aladdin’s Castle or Mr. Arcade. If you can find one today, we defy you not to put your fist through the screen after a few attempts to navigate beyond the first few stages....

Prey, Intruders, Trauma, and now Strangers… John Simm’s most constant co-star these past years has been the fug of crumpled grief. Reflected watery-eyed in the glass of a mortuary window is starting to feel like the actor’s natural habitat. Those aren’t the only questions Jonah (Simm) has about his wife Megan (Dervla Kirwan). There’s also the matter of her other husband David (Anthony Chau-Sang Wong) and the student daughter Lau (Katie Leung) that Jonah didn’t know existed....

Dean’s still trying to sleep with every woman he can shove in before he dies, while Sam’s Googling around the clock to make sure that’s the next sixty or seventy years. This brings them to Indiana for a yoga instructor Dean slept with eight years ago and an incidental job with creepy creepy kids. I do wonder how Dean manages to keep track of all the women he has slept with – he always seems to know how to find them, years later....

11.17 Red Meat On a routine werewolf hunt, Sam and Dean tussle with the culprits whilst tied-up hostages look weakly on. Surprised by a werewolf they thought was dead, Sam is shot in the stomach and badly wounded. They’re stranded in a forest with no signal and little hope with two wounded people, one of whom is Sam and the other is the second hostage, Michelle. Her husband, Corbin, is desperate to keep her safe and goes to extraordinary lengths to do so, suffocating Sam and seemingly killing him in order to convince Dean to leave him behind and get them all to safety....

9.21 King Of The Damned King of the Damned was penned by Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming, whose episodes (Taxi Driver, Holy Terror, and I’m No Angel) have historically been far from my favourites. But, I’m happy to report that, if I hadn’t known this episode was written by what the fandom often refers to as the “terrible duo,” I wouldn’t have been able to tell, which is really the highest compliment I can pay....

For Renton (Ewan McGregor), heading back to his old stomping ground in Edinburgh after 20 years is akin to opening a box of old photographs. There’s a comfort at seeing old faces, but then the regret starts flooding back: the drugs, the alcohol, the friends he’s lost and – if you remember the original Trainspotting – abruptly left behind. This latter point is a particularly sore one among Renton’s old comrades, Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) and Begbie (Robert Carlyle), who are older but still mired in their own personal failings....

Table 19 could have been cast in much the same way as you’d cast one of those fantasy films. Your budget would usually stretch to one A-lister, two comedy stars, two supporting actors from recent Oscar-nominated films and one of the leads from Friends, and such a spread would generally cover a number of different audiences and maximise your box office chances. This one probably doesn’t have such mercenary objectives, but there’s no denying that the strong cast helps it in other ways....

5.14 The Sword And The Spirit Not one to be a damsel in distress, Lydia attempts her own rescue. We may have waited fourteen episodes for it, but the opening of season five now finally makes sense. Was it worth it? I’m on the fence. It’s definitely a cool and compelling scene, so I understand why they used it in the premiere, but I have not been a fan of all the time jumping in regards to Lydia’s plotline....

For those still onboard, what an amazing episode! While I enjoyed the last few stories, they seem to be loading chambers, but for what? Ourselves Alone, is one of the darkest Terminator stories we’d yet seen, and gets to the very heart of what this series is really all about. The darkness that lies in every person’s (and robot’s) heart. The opening scene shows her trying to get a pigeon that’s nesting in the chimney out of the house....

2.12 Rubicon And Rubicon saw another layer added to that, as Clarke is now partly responsible for the death of perhaps dozens (hundreds?) of both her people and the Grounders, and there appears to be no way for her to pass off responsibility. Up until now, she has been the strong, unwavering leader, bringing together the Sky People and the Grounders, protecting her own people and making the tough decisions when others can’t....

The story, like so many of the Twilight Zone scripts, is a simple one. A couple, Norma (Cameron Diaz) and Arthur Lewis (James Marsden), get a present from the mysterious, disfigured Arlington Steward (Frank Langella). It’s a box with a button. They have a choice. If they push the button, someone in the world they do not know will die, but they will get $1,000,000 in 1976 money. If they don’t push the button within 24 hours, the offer is void, the box is removed, and they can live their lives unmolested....
