The Change-Up, in my view, is not a good film, despite some recommendations you may read. The plot? Best buddies Mitch (Reynolds) and Dave (Bateman) have been friends for years, but due to their different priorities, have slowly been drifting apart. Dave is a hotshot lawyer angling for promotion at his law firm, while also bringing up three children. Mitch is a pot-smoking layabout (with an amazing apartment) with pretensions of acting....
4.11 Kidnapped I was rather hoping that, after the downbeat and earnest tone of the past four episodes, the excellent Umbaran arc, that The Clone Wars would throw up a one-off full of laughs and japes. This was not to be, as we dive headlong into another story arc which seems to be just as serious and thoughtful as the last. Before we get to the issues of Kidnapped, the story itself sees the core gang of Ahsoka, Anakin and Obi Wan travel to the planet Kiros....
Possibly the most revered of the Doctor Who assistants, Elizabeth Sladen is back as Sarah Jane Smith in The Sarah Jane Adventures on CBBC and in two new audio-adventures from BBC Audiozone. Martin thus turned into a great big puppy for a chat with the lovely Liz… I love radio, and I haven’t done it – other than the actual Doctor Who – for so long now. It takes a different kind of discipline and a different kind of enjoyment really....
The Expanse Season 1 Episode 5 That’s not to say all of the characters are likable. Miller is certainly a gruff if tenacious detective, and viewers usually like their investigators a little rough around the edges. Although his attitude towards Havelock’s arrangement with the Belter prostitute seemed unfair (it’s actually quite endearing), he obviously was feeling protective towards his partner who had just survived a brutal attack. Who can blame him for mistrusting the motives of his partner’s supposed language tutor?...
Then, life gets in the way. First, the couple postpones their marriage so that Violet’s sister Suzie (Alison Brie) can get married to her dopey paramour Alex (Chris Pratt, playing a great variant on the character he plays in Parks & Recreation). Then, the dream job to Berkeley never comes, but what does come is a letter inviting Violet to go east to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and join the staff of Winton Childs (Rhys Ifans) while getting her doctorate....
1.5 The Siege The noose seems to be tightening around the throats of Jacob, Paul, and Emma. The more the three squabble amongst themselves, the less they pay attention to Joey. That comes back to bite them as they have difficulty keeping track of the kid. After he makes a brief phone call to his mother, trying to get back in touch with her, the caretakers separate him from the phone....
It helps that there are powers on display right away that we haven’t seen on previous superhero-as-outcast shows. Of particular interest is Jamie Chung’s character, Claire a.k.a. Blink, whose ability involves creating writhing purple portals that allow her to travel instanteously from one point to another. Having her character join the Mutant Underground as someone still new to her abilities is something we’ve seen in shows like The Tomorrow People or Alphas, but that trope is usually reserved for the main character....
A few years ago a couple of doctors in Sweden turned themselves into latterday hybrids of Messrs Hyde and Jekyll with Jack the Ripper overtones; Dr. Teet Haerm and Dr. Lars Thomas were pathologists working for the police. They both had exemplary records and were looked on as pillars of the community. Haerm was a charming, outgoing type. Good with children and happy to pitch in and help in anything that was going on....
Hated it so much that I even missed Smithy in The Bill. I fumed about it all night and, as the dawn chorus was building to full volume, I decided I was going to have a Judy Dench. It worked for her. Even got her one of the best paid jobs in the film industry. And who knows. If there came a time when the producers were looking for another ‘M’ they might turn to me to fill in....
I’ve often thought of The IT Crowd as being like an eccentric aunt. You love her regardless, despite her tendency to shout at curtains or store her clothes in the oven. And in spite of its often uneven humour, The IT Crowd exudes a dopy charm that has always kept me coming back to it, week after week. But after the desperately unfunny previous episode last week, I watched Italian For Beginners with more than a hint of trepidation....
It’s just a shame that the Irishman is only becoming a seductive bloodsucker now for Fright Night, and not at the beginning of his career when he spent some time in Ballykissangel. It would have been fun to see young Farrell terrorising BBC primetime TV, worrying the sheep and spreading unholy terror through the County Kerry countryside. This fresh Fright Night also stars David Tennant as a dandy showbiz occult expert, which is in effect the Doctor regenerated as a cross between Russell Brand and Aleister Crowley....
“Who’s Ben Affleck?” asks one of the senile relatives (they might not actually be senile. They might just be playacting to annoy you). “Ummm,” responds another, “oh aye… he went out with Jennifer Lopez, y’know… the singer and current Senator of Puerto Rico.” The news then flashes a front cover spread of Affleck and Lopez from a 2003 issue of Heat magazine as a sort of obituary shot and fades into adverts and the ‘Bruce Forsythdroid’s War in Antarctica Warriors of the Week’ segment....
But what is ‘fantastic’? If we turn to the wisdom of the Oxford English Dictionary, we find that the adjective ‘fantastic’ has two definitions. First one: it refers to “something imaginative or fanciful; remote from reality; strange or exotic” or “seeming more appropriate to the imagination than to reality”. The second: “extraordinarily good or attractive”. Too often, ‘fantastic’ is used to describe stuff that fails to be imaginative, unreal or even excellent....
Episodes 3.3 & 3.4 The beginning of episode three does at least give Borch a chance to vent his long-gestating frustration at Lund, thanks to getting stuck in traffic. With nowhere to run, Borch quizzes Sarah on what exactly distracted her at the train station. He finds it rather amusing when she tells him of her realisation that grandparenthood is fast approaching. Seeing an opportunity, he has a bit of a go at her for getting cold feet on the two of them moving in together years ago....
This review contains spoilers. Not Bob. Nobody in The Last Kingdom is called anything as simple as Bob. Their names are a chaos of dipthongs and silent consonants transcribed from God’s jogged Scrabble board. Just for starters, the series two opener introduced us to Father Hrothweard, Abbot Eadred, Brother Trew, Guthred, Sigefrid and Roy. Not Roy, though that would have been fun – Erik. Otherwise known as ‘The Brothers’, Sigefrid and Erik are a pair of fierce Danes last seen braying about bringing back silver and redheads from their Scot-killing lads’ tour....
Sitting in class, she is greeted to her new home by Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle), a psychiatrist who has made it her life’s mission to “correct” young teenagers into realizing why they should hate themselves and their nature, just as her younger brother and fellow counselor Rev. Rick (John Gallagher Jr.) now does. So in that classroom, Cameron is singled out by Lydia as perfectly redeemable if she’d just let Jesus heal her....
Ebenezer Scrooge is one of those roles that actors love to sink their teeth into. The roster of talent that has portrayed everyone’s favorite Christmas malcontent reads like a who’s who of the twentieth century’s finest actors. Perhaps only King Lear or Macbeth have a more impressive pedigree. It’s only natural that an actor of Michael Caine’s caliber would take a shot at Scrooge, and he is nothing short of magnificent in The Muppet Christmas Carol....
Based on episode one of the new run, I can say with some confidence that the show seems to have grown in all the right ways. Without spoiling any story elements, you could characterise this episode by its need to tie up loose ends, reacquaint everyone with the characters and then introduce some new villains to set up the rest of the season. It does every single one of those things perfectly well, even if the result feels a little workmanlike, battle scenes aside....
She is chatting with us between takes that involve rapid gunfire. Before each call of “action,” an assistant director warns that loud gunfire is about to go off. Initially Munn is only feigning concern about Frankie’s proximity to the explosions (she covers his small ears and holds him close). But after the actual gunfire sends the pup fleeing from her arms and out of the tent, we have to pause and start the interview again… after, like her onscreen character of Dr....
