Hap and Leonard Episode 1 It should be no surprise that an award-winning writer as prolific and talented as Joe R. Lansdale would see some of his more popular characters brought to life in their own series. At nine books and three novellas, with a tenth novel on the way, Hap and Leonard is TV’s newest drama—or in this case, noir. (Swamp noir, if we’re splitting genre hairs.) Lansdale is no stranger to television, having penned episodes of Batman: The Animated Series....

Hap and Leonard Season 2 Episode 6 Right off the bat, I want to say how much I enjoyed this season of SundanceTV’s Hap and Leonard. There’s a tremendous amount of talent involved, both on screen and off. This is not some slapdash enterprise, simply going through the motions as it chews through one genre trope after another. Rather, Hap and Leonard is a crime show with heart, a story of friendship packaged as a twisting, turning whodunit....

Set in contemporary Warsaw, Pakt follows dogged journalist Piotr as his world is upended when he comes across information that seems to implement his brother, the financial director of a powerful multinational company, in a scandal. The resulting search for the truth leads to multiple deaths and corruption at the highest levels of Polish society, and tears apart Piotr’s life, career, and family. While Pakt follows familiar thriller beats as its mystery unfolds, it is never boring and often surprising in ways that will leave you both deeply unsettled and even more invested in getting to the bottom of this mystery alongside Piotr....

So what’s the latest contribution to carry the Olympic torch for satire, following such greats as Punch, Private Eye and Spitting Image? Headcases, a CGI version of Spit that promises much. According to Henry Naylor, creator and director of Headcases, “It’s very, very funny and has real bite. There’s nothing like it on television anywhere in the world which is a real tribute to the skill of the team.” You know they’re struggling when they have to tell you the name of the person they’re lampooning, as in ‘look who’s at the door…it’s…’, and employ other subtle writing tricks as borrowed directly from Shakespeare....

This week, Helix suffers a small crisis of conscience, as though it suddenly occurred to the characters that there is something larger at stake. For all their isolation at Arctic Biosystems, there is a reason they are out in the middle of a freezing wasteland: to deal with the virus. A virus that has gotten quickly out of hand. The virus does not just have the potential to create a really, really, bad flu season, it has the capacity to make billions of angry, slime-drooling, zombies....

Destiny 2′s problems have been meticulously chronicled: a stagnating Crucible fails to hold PvP players and Twitch streamers in the days of Fornite and Overwatch. Twitch streamers are leaving Destiny for other games. Players are finding other online pastimes, other first-person shooters. BioWare’s upcoming hefty science fiction world Anthem could be either a poorly-timed Destiny clone or a Destiny-killer. Not to mention that Destiny 2‘s early progression system controversy didn’t do the game any favors at launch… Even while I’m discouraged that Destiny has become such a cautionary tale, I can see how it got that way....

This Humans review contains spoilers. The quest to become more human is a compelling one and has been set up to drive the second series as it builds upon the world created in the first. After a lengthy period of deliberation (itself a tellingly human characteristic), Niska uploads Elster’s consciousness code and, with further trepidation, awaits the explosive results. Which, at least to begin with, don’t amount to very much....

I’ll be honest, I didn’t really buy the premise of Conned Out Of Luck from the outset. That being that Mickey is so dumb as to fall for some mobile phone scam artist, and in doing so loses his mojo. That said, the entire exercise was even more tongue-in-cheek than the show normally pushes, so plenty of breaking the fourth plane from the actors was to be expected. In retrospect, what worried me more after seeing this show was how many of them I already knew, and the number I’d experienced in anger....

Inhumans Episode 4 Okay, that was a little better. I guess we’ll get the nonsense out of the way first. When I first heard that the Inhumans were coming to live action, the character that I was most looking forward to seeing realized was Karnak. I’ve always been a big Karnak fan, with his unique powers, his ice cold demeanor, and his wonderfully big head, there was just something about the character that appealed to me....

Director Jaume Collet-Serra and legendary producer Joel Silver were in NYC recently to supply some answers about bringing this high flying thriller to the big screen. JC: For me it was the concept. Also the challenge of shooting an entire movie in one set. I think it’s very interesting for a director that enjoys thrillers and mysteries like I do to have the challenge to do that, and so that was the main reason for me, the concept, the air marshal world and also, you know, being afraid of flying just a little bit, and so, I thought that the fragility of the environment, a plane going from New York to London just in the middle of the ocean, if something goes wrong, it could become a very scary place, but I didn’t want to make a movie that was all in your face, hijacking terrorists....

Jack has taken his role as spurned spouse and decided to play it to the hilt. He has become the crazy ex that just can’t leave the ole wifey alone. Look, man, I know you loved Amy, but Amy has gone bye bye. Rose has been pretty clear about that. No means no. Move on. Get over it. Or, get even. Which is exactly what Jack does. In his last ditch effort to rescue Amy’s meatsack (if not her soul), he ventures into the bowels of the Qui Reverti building and sets the library of “9” notebooks (journals of past lives) on fire....

The original series follows Zim, an incompetent alien with delusions of grandeur who screams a lot, as he repeatedly fails to conquer planet Earth. He’s been sent there along with GIR, his incompetent robot assistant who also screams a lot, by their alien overlords, The Almighty Tallest, who just want Zim as far away as possible from “Operation Impending Doom II,” their second try at taking over the universe (Zim ruined the first attempt)....

If there is any justice in the world, his wonderful soundtrack to the film Shaft – which shifted effortlessly from era-defining super-tight Funk, to the smoothest of lounge jazz – should always be considered his finest hour; though his composition credits for Stax are equally impressive. These include collaborations with David Porter on soul staples Soul Man and Hold On, I’m Comin’, both made into massive hits by Sam & Dave, amongst many others – and his central role in the success of the Stax roster through the mid-60s cannot be underestimated....

iZombie Season 2, Episode 17 iZombie has been slowly building an intricate web of undead secrets, lies, and — in some cases — amnesia amongst its cast of characters over the course of its second season. This week, those overlapping plots have really started coming to a head, and it makes for some exciting, character-driven TV. In the aftermath of these major developments, Major explains it all to Ravi: He hasn’t been killing the zombies so much as freezing them....

iZombie Season 3, Episode 12 A week after I wrote a review lamenting iZombie‘s inability to tell a specific story with its ambitious plot, the show gives us one of its best episodes ever… one that literally ends with a bang. iZombie has always had a talent for metaphorically blowing up its plot lines in unexpected and upsetting ways (i.e. having Blaine kill Lowell in Season 1), but it’s been awhile since it was able to make one of its devastating twists feel so heavy....

According to The Blast, Neidhart was at the home of his daughter, WWE wrestler Natalya, when he suffered from a seizure and fell and hit his head. Later, TMZ received a statement from the local sheriff’s office, which stated: “”Preliminary information indicates that [Neidhart] fell at home, hit his head, and succumbed to his injury.” “Always great to catch up with the living legend @natbynature when she is in Boston for RAW,” he wrote....

Act II picks up more or less where Act I left off – during Dr Horrible’s semi-successful heist, he inadvertantly introduced the love of his life to his arch-enemy, and now he’s deeply traumatised. Which, given that he’s an evil supervillain, is fairly appropriate. The first song is a brilliant duet between Dr Horrible and Penny; for him, the world is falling apart, but she’s falling in love and the crossover parts are great (think Giles and Tara’s duet in Once More With Feeling, maybe)....

Killjoys Season 4 Episode 10 “I think I prefer regular, bitchy Dutch to creepy, nice Dutch.” Killjoys showrunner Adam Barken takes a bold step with the spellbinding season four finale “Sporemaggedon,” leaving viewers simultaneously thrilled and a bit confused heading into the show’s final run. Nevertheless, in this case, the startling final sequence sets up an intriguing paradigm shift that not only shuffles the relationship deck but establishes an impending good vs evil showdown within the context of a strikingly changed set of circumstances....
