2.10 A Princess On Lothal The teenage Princess Leia encounters the Ghost crew when she brings three new starships for Sato’s fleet. Ezra is still grieving after the loss of his parents, and Ryder Azadi, the former governor who brought the news of their deaths, is sticking around with the Rebels. This episode moved along briskly from the shipyards and back, with some repeated elements but an inventive climactic fight scene....

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Episode 14 What exactly is Zeb’s role on Rebels? “We’ve never really figured that out,” Chopper deadpans (through a translator) in “Warhead,” and it’s funny because it’s true. Tasked this week with actually doing the security job he was assigned, Zeb confronts a new kind of Imperial recon droid in an episode that doesn’t quite answer the question. That sets up his confrontation with EXD-9, an Imperial recon droid....

Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Episodes 3 & 4 In an episode ostensibly tied to Rogue One, I found myself getting distracted by everything else. The two-part “In The Name of The Rebellion” finds Ezra and Sabine effectively kidnapped by Saw Gerrera, who wants to use their expertise in sneaking into Imperial bases for his own violent ends. The episode attempted to grapple with some of the ideas presented by Saw’s character in Rogue One — how far is too far down the dark path for a character with ostensibly good motivations?...

After a violent bout of crippling stomach pains (which are hastily attributed to a couple of expired sausages), Tom is frantically rushed to A&E where doctors belatedly diagnosis him with sepsis, an organ failure blood poisoning which kills 44,000 people each year. The crushing adversity faced by wife Nicola is nothing short of devastating, with Froggatt’s gut wrenching performance subtly inflected with unsteady trembling hands as she clings to a discreet dignity in attempt to regain control of the little composure she has left....

Well, yes. The butterflies are very much there. But this time, because of the nature of how we proceeded – we thought SyFy was going to launch us in the summer and that we were aiming for a July premiere. And then we, basically, started prepping for that and they looked at the dhow and said, “You know what? This show is going to be very good. We don’t want to hide it in the summer....

She plays Alice Howland, a well-to-do linguistics professor at Columbia University living in a nice part of New York, surrounded by her doting husband (Alec Baldwin) and three grown-up kids (played, respectively, by Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth and Hunter Parrish). But a gut-wrenching diagnosis threatens to devastate Alice’s world: at just fifty, she has Alzheimer’s disease. If anything other than a breathtakingly good drama, Still Alice is a spot-on study of the damning effects of Alzheimer’s on not just the sufferer – rather, a struggler, as Alice herself puts it – but their family too....

In the first episode of season 2, the seemingly perennially unlucky Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is bedeviled by an image of what comes to be known as the Mind-Flayer… although at that particular moment it resembles a giant tarantula made up of smog-infested tornados. Standing inside his family home’s doorway, Will sees the creature that would come to possess the lad (in a religious sense) later in the season. It is foreboding, it is epic, and it is oh, so very familiar....

Supergirl Season 2, Episode 8 Though “Medusa” is technically the beginning of The CW’s four-part superhero event, it is mostly a Supergirl-specific episode until it’s very end. For some, this might have been disappointing. We only got a tiny little cross-show interaction in the final moments, but, hopefully, for most, the strength of this episode overcame any dashed crossover expections. The complicated nature of family legacy. The Superman mythos has family legacy at its heart....

Supernatural Season 13 Episode 1 Supernatural is back for lucky season number thirteen. And what better way to usher it in than with a bouncing baby Lucifer? Well, he’s not a baby and he’s not Lucifer. We’ll get to that later. Supernatural always pulls every trick it can in a finale or premiere, and that’s the case here. The style and tone of the episode is more movie-like than episodic. One of the early shots of the boys driving the Impala while looking for Jack is especially cinematic....

9.1 I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here According to Supernatural canon, the way that time passes in Hell is that for every Earth month, ten years pass in Hell. That would make it about forty-five Hell years between the season eight finale and the season nine premiere, and it’s felt like every second of that time. This time the premiere picks up exactly where season eight left off: the angels have fallen, the trials are unfinished, and all hell is breaking loose (not in the metaphorical sense....

4.7 Weaponized One of the interesting things about Teen Wolf this season is how they seem to be more actively trying to remember that the stars of the show are supposed to be high school kids who still do high school things when they’re not being shot at by assassins. But even a simple thing like the PSATs, a relatively meaningless test measure most high school students take, ends up being potentially fatal for the shape-shifters and supernatural monsters that compose most of Beacon Hills’ population (also the normal kids, but nobody really cares about them)....

5.20 Apotheosis That’s right, Scott’s using his brain, not Stiles’ brain or Lydia’s brain. The Beast has proven, time and again, that he’s too tough an enemy to be taken down by a werewolf, or two werewolves, or a banshee and some werewolves, or a banshee and some werewolves and a couple of gun-toting hunters and a collection of chimeras. Everyone working together will be needed to stop The Beast, and that leads to some fun twists and turns along the way as other villains are dispatched in various creative ways, sometimes without being killed, and sometimes while being dragged into a nebulous demon space....

2.8 Spacewalker Having one of your main characters kill 18 people in a single scene is something a show like The 100 can’t really come back from. Murphy was one thing (though the show doesn’t let us forget), smothering a couple of sickly redshirts after being captured and tortured by the Grounders, but what Finn did was painted as a much more loaded act from the moment it happened. He killed a bunch of the ‘opposition’ in the middle of a war that didn’t need to begin in the first place, and his panicked response to Clarke possibly being in danger is what led everyone to the precarious, dangerous place they occupy in this mid-season finale....

The Last Dragon Motown founder Berry Gordy got into movies in the 70s and come the mid-80s, he decided to make a martial arts movie. Newcomer and actual martial artist Taimak stars as “Bruce” Leroy Green who must save musician/video jockey Vanity from an evil arcade mogul and arch-nemesis Sho’nuff, the Shogun of Harlem. This flick is cult film poetry. Masters of the Universe The big screen adaption of the beloved cartoon “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” wasn’t exactly what anyone expected....

The Alienist also features an incredible cast that features the likes of Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, and Daniel Brühl. Brühl portrays Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, an “alienist” (1900s criminal psychologist), who finds himself trying to get into this serial killer’s head in order to catch him, but he must also be careful to not lose himself in the process. Brühl brings a strong, nuanced performance to the role and we got the opportunity to chat with him about Laszlo Kreizler, the show’s grisly subject matter, and if he’s a big crime junkie himself....

They’ve got a bit savvy to our guesswork these days though, have the Apprentice producers, and so a few twists and turns were put in place. But this week Howard had his name on the end of Sralan’s finger from just a few minutes in. The bizarre moment, though, came early on. Sralan Sugar gave us an early insight into what he was hunting for from his two teams, and he told us, explicity, “I’m not looking for television presenters”....

The second instalment featured, disappointingly, just a few laughable talking heads of wonderment and brilliance, albeit with a bunch of people who believe they could fart bank notes for a living. The episode made up for it, of course, with the usual cutaway shots of people looking unimpressed with each other. So that was okay then. But what luck! A video of Lord Sugar, telling the lucky candidates that they were there for no reason....

10.13 The Romance Recalibration We start off in a dream sequence in which Leonard surprises Penny with dinner, wine and affection after a hard day’s work. In reality, he’s sitting in his pants playing video games, and she complains to Amy and Bernadette on girl’s night that she thinks he’s stopped trying since they got married. As much as the story here wants us to notice that Penny and Leonard – once the series’ most central couple and the male and female leads of the show – have stopped caring about the little things in their relationship, the same could be said for the writers’ interest in their storyline....

This review contains spoilers. There are certain sitcom tropes every show has to cover at some point – the It’s A Wonderful Life episode, the episode when the most intolerable character learns to be tolerable, the one where they tackle mental illness or addiction for half an hour before never speaking of it again and – straight out of the 90s – the one where the protagonist has to be in two places at once....
