The weekly cases are written to teach and push the law students vying for the statue and Annalise’s attention. If viewers pay attention, we can also learn about the legal system. One of my issues with the show thus far is how easily the actors run hot and cold emotionally within a short window of time. Their acting isn’t balanced and subtle. Their performances are superficial rather than grounded in any sort of acting technique and training....

Inefficiency. It’s a criticism often levelled at the BBC by a certain species of rapacious vulture who sees the corporation not as the lustrous national gem it is, but as an unjust barrier to the extent to which they’re able to feather their own nests. Now in her mid-twenties and with three hour-long Edinburgh shows under her belt she’s still regularly performing stand-up, has written for Skins, and you may well have seen her as a panellist on Charlie Brooker’s You Have Been Watching. Josie also publishes a free fanzine, Drawing Moustaches on Magazine Monthly (Bi-Monthly), which has featured contributions from, among others, Stewart Lee and Robin Ince. Yeah, I loved it; I really loved it....

But clearly most people on the Bad Robot production team for Fringe were entirely happy with the pilot, because without perceivable change, the weirdness that pervaded last week is let loose again in this second encounter. Like the pilot, something very strange happens in the first couple of minutes, leaving a mystery that takes 45 minutes to entirely unravel. This week’s craziness revolves around massively accelerated aging, a subject that curiously Walter Bishop worked on previously....

So, DC turns to Jonah Hex, lands a big-name star for the hero (Josh Brolin) and villain (John Malkovich), throws in a sexy eye candy sidekick (Megan Fox) and viola, a movie gets made. Well, not exactly, as all the horror stories from Jonah Hex started streaming in: script rewrites, massive reshoots, lots of friction between writers Neveldine and Taylor and Legendary Pictures/Warner Brothers, and a replacement director in the person of the animator Jimmy Hayward....

The editors must have had a difficult time in choosing the material in the book. Ezquerra is most often reserved for the more important Dredd episodes which advance the ongoing storylines, such as those already compiled in Rebellion’s Brothers of the Blood and Origins . However, Ezquerra occasionally gets to tackle a one-off, such as the incredibly silly Phartz episode about gaseous aliens. You can almost hear the schoolboy chuckle from its writer, John Wagner, on every page....

5.10 Weight Dewey is once again on the run and looking to unload the heroin he stole last week. Not only are his cousins hunting him down but he has once again appeared on Boyd’s radar. Boyd decides that since Dewey is Daryl’s cousin that he’s his problem to deal with and as such, Daryl proceeds to send Danny to rectify the situation. Danny tracks Dewey down after he tries to unload the heroin onto a low level drug dealer that his old pal Dickie put him into contact with....

5.2 The Kids Aren’t All Right Loretta, with the help of her deadbeat boyfriend, has decided to sell pot and it goes horribly wrong for her when she decided to not only sell dope to the son of a police officer but too also “rip off” Hot Rod Dunham from Memphis. We have enough history with Hot Rod to know that he is actually fairly reasonable when it comes to the standards of other drug dealers on the show, but we also know that he is not above killing two teenagers who did him wrong....

But then he’s got much to be pleased about. His new book, Shooting The Sht With Kevin Smith: The Best Of SModcast has just gone on sale. His next film, A Couple Of Dicks, stars Bruce Willis and is locked for a February release. And he was on the eve of a series of Q&A sessions around the UK. You’ve half-covered the book before in other interviews, but I’m getting the impression that Titan came to you with the project, and you left them to it?...

I’ve not sat through a superhero film where the script is so vacuum-packed. There’s 117 minutes, and barely a wasted minute in it. How many revisions did it take to get it down so tightly? So, if someone says a line, and you think of a better one, you can change it right there. It’s great. That’s quite rare in film, though, isn’t it? It’s more of a television sit-com ethos?...

Killjoys Season 4 Episode 7 “If you can’t do the impossible, do the honorable.” For the briefest of moments, it appears the woman Dutch and Johnny seek as they head toward the pulsar might reveal herself to be The Lady, but in true Killjoys fashion, the reality of her identity turns out to be even more intriguing. “O Mother, Where Art Thou?” helps explain many of Khlyen’s past actions as he attempted to safeguard Dutch and Aneela, and while these glimpses don’t necessarily justify his treatment of both young women, our view of him and his intentions can’t help but change....

Bolo Punch Fans of mixed martial arts and boxing are often quick to point out the respective strengths and weaknesses of their chosen sports when potential cross-discipline match-ups are ever posited. I’m no expert on either sport, but from what I can gather, were the two fighters to ‘stand up’ (i.e. remain on their feet and exchange blows), the boxer’s superior punching technique would win out in seconds, whereas if the fight were to go to the ground, the MMA fighter’s knowledge of the highly technical holds and submissions would end the fight almost immediately....

In his new directorial effort, Affleck plays Joe Coughlin, a World War I vet who’s returned to the crime-ridden streets of Boston where his father (Brendan Gleeson) is a police captain. He soon gets into trouble with the Irish mob boss, whose girlfriend Emma (Sienna Miller) Joe has been seeing on the sly, knowing full well how dangerous that is. When the city’s Italian crime chief realises this, he holds the info over Joe to force him to help with his businesses down in Florida....

Baby Boomers were jostling the Silent Generation out of the way, leaving the old guard wondering when everything was going to return to normal. Tea Leaves was a Betty-heavy story (all puns intended) that saw the former Grace Kelly double grow an extra chin and meditate on death. Meditation though, is the wrong word....

6.10 A Tale of Two Cities Aside from giving Mad Men reviewers an excuse to trot out our tedious best of times/worst of times puns, the Dickensian title also asked us to draw parallels between revolutionary France and the US in the summer of 1968. Rioting, unpopular foreign wars, establishment figures being assassinated, a bunch of people writing poems about flowers… it’s all just a little bit of history repeating....

Mayans M.C. Episode 3 The pacing changes noticeably this week on Episode 3. The action unfolds naturally alongside of the plot and to highlight the subtext. Sometimes one punch (or a single bullet) is really all you need. It uncovers another layer of personal motivations, stories and lies. And naturally, the best lies are the ones we tell ourselves and the people we love best. Following her conversation last episode with EZ (and thanks to the rebel’s viral video) Emily knows that Galindo lied to her about his retaliation for the kidnapping of their son, and how that will endanger the baby....

After the cracking two part episode where finally (and successfully) it embraced its fun side, Merlin this week takes a darker tone as we are introduced to Uthers ‘Witch-Smeller’, in the form of Charles Dance’s character Aredian. And for the course of the show he’s really channelling Vincent Price’s classic ‘Matthew Hopkins’ as he skulks around Camelot accusing all and sundry of being a witch, sorcerer or in league with the devil and all his little minions....
