Gotham Season 4 Episode 21 Review One Bad Day

Gotham Season 4 Episode 21 I don’t think even the most ardent fan of Gotham will fail to admit that this season of Gotham has been incredibly disjointed. That is, not until tonight. Because as I’ve been saying, as goes the Valeska twins, so goes Gotham. When Jerome or Jeremiah have gotten involved in Gotham, the series steps up its game, and that is proven once again with “One Bad Day,” an episode that manages to somehow tie together the narrative chaos of Gotham into a cohesive whole, and even delivers a severe gut punch of an ending that will leave fans begging for more....

Guerrilla Episode 1 Review

Guerrilla Episode 1 “You’re soldiers now,” a character tells Jas (Freida Pinto) and Marcus (Babou Ceesay), two formerly peaceful protesters who’ve just violently broken a man out of prison, at the end of Guerrilla’s first episode. There’s no turning back, and things are only going to get harder. In this first episode we’re introduced to Jas and Marcus, two lovers who, within an hour of screen time, go from attending peaceful protests to buying a gun and using it to break out an imprisoned radical....

Halloween 30 Years Of Terror

If the above paragraph reads to you as clichéd, it’s because it is clichéd. However, a much deserved set of truths reinforce the affection and reverence afforded to Halloween, so the almost fetishist idolisation bestowed upon it by horror nerds everywhere is well deserved. It’s impossible to deny the influence of the film within the horror genre and also with how horror villains have been perceived and created over the years....

Hari Kondabolu Wants To Warn Your Relatives In First Netflix Special

The pair recently started a fantastic new podcast called Kondabolu Brothers, though Hari is being too hard on himself when he jokingly deprecates himself — a performative feat he often employs in his new Netflix special, Warn Your Relatives. Directed by comedy and filmmaking veteran Bobcat Goldthwait, Kondabolu’s first hour-long special features a mix of the political material his fans know and love, and some hilarious forays into his childhood and young adult life....

Haven Fallout Review

So now what? Well, shady dude Duke (Eric Balfour), who went into the barn with Audrey, gets spit out six months later in a seal tank in Boston. Audrey returns as her new incarnation, bartender Lexie DeWitt. Everyone in Haven thinks Duke is dead, until he escapes the hospital with help from another troubled person, Jennifer Mason (newcomer Emma Lehana). She thought she was crazy for hearing the voices of the people who were in the barn, but…well, she really is kind of crazy even without that little thing factored in....

Hell On Wheels Gambit Review

Hell on Wheels Season 5 Episode 11 “Gambit” flashes forward to New York, 1885, wherein we see Thomas Durant and Sam Huntington in the later stages of their lives away from Wyoming. Durant’s a legend in his own mind and reflection in the tailor’s full-length mirror. He fell from grace years ago, and stopped believing in human kindness after losing his wife and son. On the surface, the deaths alone aren’t enough to excuse his dastardly deeds....

Heroes 2 2 Review

So, where are we? And what have we learnt from the latest episode, ‘Lizards’? Claire’s still struggling to fit into high school, is showing an unnatural interest in Lizards – they can regenerate, y’know – and takes radical action to discover whether or not her limbs grow back (they do, by the way). There’s an Isaac Mendes painting – in the possession of Bennett Snr. – that depicts the death of Sulu (Mr....

Heroes Season 4 Episode 4 Review

After a two-episode gap, we finally get to catch up with Nathan. It’s easy to forget that Peter isn’t in on the whole Nathan deal, but it seemed strange that he saw nothing suspicious or worrying in Nathan’s newly-emerged powers. Thankfully, the exploration of those powers takes a back seat to his struggle with his identity, a sure sign that the plot is on the right track. Angela made clever use of Nathan-Sylar’s psychometry (object-reading) powers, and if the mystery that emerged was a bit melodramatic, its purpose became clear in the bordering-on-classic final scene....

Human Target Season 2 Episode 3 Review Taking Ames

2.3 Taking Ames This latest episode opens at a factory where Ames and her friend, explosives expert Brodie (J. D. Pardo), break in to steal some explosives. Unfortunately for Ames, Chance was following her to make sure he could trust her. While the team discusses whether or not they can trust her, Ames fills them in on a bit of her backstory, how she and Brodie grew up together and then, when a job went wrong, he took the fall for it and kept her out of jail and now she owes him....

Hustle Season 8 Episode 1 Review

The final season of Hustle is upon us. As a viewer, and reviewer of the show, I’ve mixed feelings about this, because there just isn’t anything like Hustle on any other channel, and I’m already getting withdrawal symptoms ahead of this one disappearing into the mists of TV history. So what was this opening story like? It pains me to say this, given the circumstances, but I mostly found it to be business as usual, and a bit flat in places, if I’m honest....

In The Flesh Series 2 Finale Review

This review contains spoilers. As flies to wanton boys are we to TV writers, they kill us for their sport. Jack Reacher Never Go Back Review

Arguably one shouldn’t need to make this sort of judgement in order to enjoy a film anyway. But I’ll say this: I watched Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and my preconceptions of Cruise didn’t cross my mind once. Largely this is because his performance, unlike in his first, eponymous outing as the character, is entirely un-Cruise-y. And the best thing about this is that it’s far more Reacher-y. 2012’s Jack Reacher was a serviceable army-of-one vigilante actioner, but as a fan of the books I was biased against it from the start and bound to pick holes....

Jamaica Inn Episode 1 Review

Adapted from the excellent Daphne du Maurier novel of the same name, Jamaica Inn follows the trials of Mary Yellan (Jessica Brown Findlay) who travels to the inn on Bodmin Moor after the sudden death of her mother. She is taken in by her aunt, Patience (Joanne Whalley) and uncle, the imposing Joss Merlyn (Sean Harris) and is swept up in their schemes. She becomes determined to resist all that goes on at the inn, including the charm of Jem Merlyn (Matthew McNulty), Joss’ younger brother, a horse thief and a bit of a cad....

Jj Abrams Fringe Episode 11 Review

The show desperately needs a nemesis that can represent the threat, and the impact of the fight against it. The episode, called ‘Bound’, opens with both a Fringe and Abrams signature sequence. From the Fringe side we have the shock icky event, whereas the J.J. influence is a long intro before the credits actually appear, though not as long as one famous Alias episode where they didn’t arrive until at least 15-20 minutes in....

John Scalzi On Gender Sports And Representation In Sci Fi

The former president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, a Hugo Award winner for his 2013 novel Red Shirts, and a former creative consultant on Stargate Universe, Scalzi has probably influenced some of the science fiction you’ve consumed in the last decade, even if you’re not actively a fan. John Wick Style Female Assassin Movie Ruthless Eyed By A List Actresses

According to The Tracking Board, a script titled Ruthless by John Swetnam, a screenwriter behind films such as dance-centric streaming television series Making Moves, 2014 Richard Armitage-starring disaster movie Into the Storm and 2014 dance franchise sequel Step Up All In, is the center of a bidding war amongst studios. Swetnam’s script is being described as placing a female protagonist into a version of the John Wick paradigm – though, to clarify, it’s not connected to the series....

Krypton Secrets Of The House Of Zod

When we’re introduced to two members of the Zod family in the first episode, it’s in the least expected way possible. Lyta Zod (played by Georgina Campbell) is a member of Kandor’s military, the Saggitarri, takes on her mother, Primus Jayna Zod (Ann Ogbomo) in a combat demonstration in front of other troops. It ends with the elder Zod stabbing her daughter through the hand with a dagger. Lff The Dinner Review

The Dinner (I nostri regazza) tells the story of two sets of well-to-do parents who fear that their respective teenage son and daughter may have carried out this vicious crime. As it becomes clear that their children really are the culprits, the resulting emotional fallout threatens to tear the parents’ relationships apart. Based on the novel of the same name by Herman Koch, The Dinner is economically shot and well acted – Gassman, in particular, is superb as Massimo....
