Beside Bowie The Mick Ronson Story Soundtrack Drops Like A Spider From Mars

Former rock manager and Bowie insider Jon Brewer, who also directed the documentaries BB King: The Life of Riley, Nat King Cole: Afraid of the Dark, Jimi Hendrix: Guitar Hero, The Most Dangerous Band in The World, had unprecedented access for the guitarist’s life story. Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story features exclusive narration by David Bowie and exclusive contributions by Rick Wakeman, Joe Elliott, Roger Taylor, Ian Hunter and Angie Bowie....

Better Call Saul Episode 8 Review Rico

1.8 Rico His is a pragmatic, low-key determination, to be sure, but it’s his primary motivator, and the driving force of another excellent episode of Better Call Saul. It manifests as an unerring attention to detail, and a real sense of diligence; as Chuck himself says in the opening flashback, Jimmy has “so much drive”. This opening is jam-packed with excellent character details, adding subtle shades to Jimmy, Chuck, Kim (what was that kiss about, eh) and Howard in a way that feels entirely natural, rather than expository....

Between Episode 5 Review End Of The Rope

1.5 End Of The Rope The quality of the writing and performing demonstrate no ambitions to improve in the penultimate Between. If it wasn’t already, the game is up in episode 5. And by that I mean that the show entirely throws off any premise of being ‘science fiction’, because instead what it turns out to be is a cheap, cliché-riddled and uninteresting show about teenage angst. But what really shocks me is the lack of variation between the characters, because other than their appearance it would be hard to separate them based purely on their ability to make poor choices or how generally deluded they are....

Blackhat Review

When the actor-director pairing’s wrong, we end up with cardboard characters like Colin Farrell’s lugubrious Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice. Mann’s latest film – his first as director since Public Enemies in 2009 – is an intense thriller with a premise ripped straight from the headlines but hobbled by banal dialogue and two-dimensional characters. When a hack on a Chinese nuclear power station results in a devastating meltdown, and a further cyber assault on the stock market causes havoc with the price of soy, computer genius Hathaway (Hemsworth) is taken out of prison to help track down the culprit....

Blade Runner 2049 Review

How miraculous, then, that Blade Runner 2049 emerges not only as a film that complements the original – and arguably deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Ridley Scott’s seminal masterpiece – but also stands as a spectacular story all by itself. Denis Villeneuve, who previously directed the likes of Incendies, Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario and Arrival, is again on career-best form here; he’s joined by a group of actors and filmmakers who are all operating at the height of their own creative powers....

Breaking Bad Felina Review

Breaking Bad has ended its historic run of complete television dominance with an episode that ties up all the loose ends. A hypothesis was tested; can television audiences appreciate a dark drama centered on a cancer-ridden man’s transformation into a meth kingpin? The experiment was conducted; five seasons of gut-wrenching, heart-stopping episodes were cranked out with the precision of a Heisenberg cook. Observations were made; critics flocked, and with the help of streaming services and social media, the fan base grew steadily with the fervor only reserved for a true television phenomenon....

Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 2 Madrigal

5.2 Madrigal This is what happens when I try and open my reviews as stylishly as Breaking Bad does. I sound like a pompous idiot. How do they do it? Seriously, how do they do it? How are these ‘cold opens’ always so incredibly satisfying? Time and again, and as recently as last week, Breaking Bad will show a pre-credits so playfully weird and obtuse that the eventual credits splash comes as a relief, so you can finally turn to your BB companion and breathily say What....

Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare 5 Things We Want From Sledgehammer

It’s been a long time coming, but with the release of the first image from their upcoming Call of Duty game, it looks like Sledgehammer’s first official entry into the series is coming out this fall. According to them, it will be “next-gen first.” With that being said, here are a few next-genny features that we would love to see included. Improved Enemy A.I. No Call of Duty campaign has quite touched the intensity of Call of Duty 4, even if the story writers threw feasibility to the wind and dug plot holes to China....

Caprica Episode 6 Review

Come the end of the latest episode of Caprica, I really, really wanted to watch the next one there and then. I point this out for the simple reason that, while I’ve been enjoying and absorbing the show thus far, I’ve not had that reaction since the final frame of the pilot episode. Without question, though, the main focus and point of interest of this latest episode was dealing with ramifications from a previous instalment....

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Episode 17 Review Sakura And The Crazy Sweets

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Episode 17 So uh… this episode had Sakura fight against a goddamn cake sand worm. All right, there’s actually more to talk about but boy… that was one hell of an image. I’m kind of let down it was just the “Appear” card and not the Cake Sand Worm card because I want Sakura to unleash that unholy monstrosity on all of her enemies. The main focus I have hear is one I’ve always dreaded tackling with Cardcaptor Sakura because it’s one that I often try to avoid....

Castle Kill Switch Review

In “Kill Switch,” the majority of the action takes place in a cramped subway car where a seemingly asthmatic hacker has decided to hold a group of people hostage. Detective Esposito is one of the hostages, having followed the man — a person of interest in a murder investigation — onto the train. The hacker’s name is Jared Stone, a former Occupy Wall Street activist whose only demand is the release of his hacktivist girlfriend, Erin Wilson, from prison....

The New York Street Sports Festival is in full swing and rising star Logan Moore is favored to win. But before he can compete, Logan is cut down by an assassin on a cycle with three bullets. Castle Season 8 Episode 19 Review Dead Again

8.19 Dead Again The nice thing about Death Wish, and perhaps I should have pointed it out at the time, is that, in the end, while Castle’s ridiculous theory is never entirely proven to be false—after all, maybe Genevieve really is a genie and Mr. X her master—there is at least a plausible and more likely explanation put forth for what Rick has been spinning yarns about. Last week’s Dead Again, on the other hand, offers no reality-based foundation for Castle’s latest supernatural hypothesis....

Cellar Dweller Dvd Review

Some years later, his home has been converted into an art school and a new, young and impressionable artist decides to update the Cellar Dweller comic book with horrific results as the power of the beast threatens to consume her. Can anything stop the Cellar Dweller as it goes on a murderous rampage seemingly guided by the artistic hands of Whitney? Written by Don Mancini, who would later find success with the Child’s Play series of films, the script, and acting, wouldn’t look out of place in an 80s soap opera....

Chuck Season 2 Episode 8 Review

Chuck Versus the Gravitron maintains the exceptionally high standard season two has so far set. The story goes on to resolve the cliff-hanger ending from last week where Chuck runs off with Jill – former girlfriend and enemy Fulcrum agent. In a now typical model, this episode has two threads, one which follows Chuck and the other that centres on the Buy More. Chuck’s blissful existence with Jill lasts a whole night before he wakes up and works out that Jill isn’t just a women he once knew, when he flashes on a text message from her controller, ‘Leader’....

Chuck Season 3 Episode 13 Review

It didn’t take much guessing who the ‘other guy’ was in this episode, as last week’s ended with Daniel taking Sarah away with evil intentions after finding out she killed his wife. But there are such important plot changes in this story that only those who are wearing spoiler retardant clothing should read beyond this point. This was possibly one of the cleverest Chuck episodes yet, as it attempted to emulate Alias at its very best: Daniel is good, Daniel is bad, Daniel is much worse than you could imagine....

Chuck Season 3 Episode 7 Review

I’m a big enough reviewer to admit I was wrong about last week, where I thought this show had somehow wandered off the path of true Chuck-ness. This became patently obvious to be about 10 minutes into Chuck Versus The Mask, when all the carefully placed dominos set up in the previous episode began to tumble in a mesmerizingly chaotic fashion. But the added spice in this situation is that Hannah invited herself along to the museum, and both she and Chuck get asked back to make sure the grand opening of the mask exhibition goes smoothly....

Clique Episode 6 Review

This review contains spoilers. I’ll cop to, six weeks ago, not having high expectations for Clique beyond its attempts to emulate the glossy female-centric US dramas that haven’t quite caught on over here. It fulfilled that promise well, with its scandalous relationships, dark undertones and racy sex scenes. But then it did something I wasn’t expecting – it attempted to be something more than that. Amidst the so-so mystery and slightly boring financial sub-plots there was a complicated look at modern feminism in relation to ambition, friendship and shame....

Community Basic Intergluteal Numismatics Review

Furthermore, there was the question of whether the premise could be sustained for the entire episode. See, it’s a crime procedural about Annie and Jeff trying to catch someone lurking around campus known as the “Ass Crack Bandit”. It’s a guy (or girl) who waits for a person to bend over and then drops a quarter down their buttcrack. The golden age of television, fellow viewers! There were just so many stupid lines that made me cackle, like Troy’s plea to approve the Dean’s new security measure because “A camera in the bathroom is better than a quarter in your butt....

Constantine The Saint Of Last Resorts Review

So this week was probably the most well-balanced episode of Constantine yet. The entire cast is finally all present and accounted for in the same installment (well, almost all, we were not treated to Manny) with meaty roles for each player. We were also introduced to a new major player in John Constantine’s life while our intrepid band of heroes tried to solve a Mexican mystery dealing with the abduction of new born infants by an ancient entity....
