Sounds stupid, right? So why start the story to begin with? Back when Vince McMahon himself was getting involved in matches in the late-90s, he said that as a character on a WWE show, everything eventually leads to the ring. He’s right, Stephanie McMahon, Shane McMahon and even Vickie Guerrero had matches in their time with WWE. Everything in wrestling will eventually lead to a match, which makes it so difficult to have a character like Bryan, who according to WWE doctors is medically unable to compete....

When this doesn’t work (in my opinion, the body-swapping back-to-back episodes are a good example of this) it really doesn’t work. It provides us with something clunky at best and truly dissonant at worst. That said, when the show pulls off the incremental evolutionary steps, they do so in a way that just sings. This week’s episode was a veritable choir of angels, to keep the whole singing metaphor going....

Ex-civil servants and food bank volunteers star alongside the main cast, which adds to Loach’s unapologetic tone. Johns and Squires deliver unnervingly realistic performances, jointly bringing an impassioned rawness to a nationwide issue. This unflinching film is a masterpiece, and Loach’s best work in years....

Are people going to get what we’re doing?” Sophomore years are almost always more confident and crystallized because the creators are given the means to make their visions come to life the way they intended, sometimes even better....

Into The Badlands Season 2 Episode 5 I’ve been a wee bit harsh on Sunny the past couple of reviews. This has less to do with Daniel Wu’s performance and more to do with Into The Badlands’ forced, time constrained characterization. Or, rather, Badlands’ wandering eye. Sunny is our main character, yes. He is, without a doubt, the pivot upon which the show, uh, oscillates. (Put the thesaurus down, Stephen.) But now that we’re halfway through the second season, it’s clear that Badlands is far more captivated by the political intrigues of the baronage and the web of emotions surrounding it than it is with tracking the story of its main protagonist....

Episode four starts out with Marcus, asleep in the back seat of a car, dreaming of the time Maddy’s parents bought the beach house and she sat down at the piano, for the first time ever, and playing like a pro. His dreams got darker as he remembered the end of his past life, getting (what I assumed to be) buried alive. Which begs the question, exactly how long has Marcus been squatting like a toad inside Maddy’s brain?...

iZombie Season 3, Episode 4 iZombie is really getting its Murder of the Week/Ongoing Plots ratio right this season. While some of “Wag the Tongue Slowly” was structured around the unintentional murder of an office gossip, the episode did a lot of work moving forward the larger plots that we really care about. Let’s talk iZombie Season 3… I would have liked to see a little bit more reaction from both Ravi and Liv when it came to Major’s potential death and/or memory loss....

Jeff Hawke was the brainchild of Scottish writer and former RAF pilot Sydney Jordan (have you noticed how many of comicdom’s great imagineers originally hail from north of the border – John Wagner, Pat Mills, Grant Morrison, Mark Millar?) and illustrator, fellow Dundonian Willie Patterson. They created Hawke as a kind of debonair galactic secret agent with an apartment in Kensington with a regular team headed by Laura and Mac, and a hotline to Whitehall....

Now, more than 30 years since he released what became the blueprint for every football management sim that followed – including the huge franchise that bears the Football Manager name today – Kevin Toms is set to release his new football management game for the iPhone. Toms isn’t giving too much away about his forthcoming game just yet, not even its name – suffice to say it won’t be called Football Manager because he no longer owns the rights....

Episode five of series one proves this point exactly. It’s also one of the episodes where the crime aspect really drives the majority of the plot. This is where the “creepy stuff”, as Annie calls it, takes a back seat but also throws out massive clues (or is that just hindsight on my part?). A Man U supporter is murdered near a Man U pub. Man U plays. Man City on Saturday....

Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio originally trained as a doctor; if he’s still licensed to write prescriptions, he owes us all a month’s worth of anti-anxiety pills and a sedative after that. And perhaps something for finger cramp. After ten minutes of holding mine to my face, rigid as bicycle spokes, I can barely type. From the second Jamie arrived in the interrogation room to the moment he handed over his gun, I’m not sure I exhaled....

Love Season 3 “We’re indestructible. We’re invincible.” Love’s second season didn’t feel as groundbreaking as its debut year, and this is unfortunately a trend that continues into season three. That disclaimer aside, that’s not to say that this is a bad season of television or that it doesn’t have something to say. In fact, it’s nice to see the production team realize that three years is enough for this story and that this vehicle won’t draw itself out and needlessly jeopardize Mickey and Gus’ relationship and happiness in the process....

After hearing her being shot by bad lieutenant Ian Reed, Luther rushes to her house, pausing only to make a phone call to his superior along the way, telling her that Zoe has been hurt and she needs to send medical help. The situation doesn’t look good for Luther. DCI Reed has long since scarpered, and Luther is now in the house with Zoe’s blood on his hands, his fingerprints all over the weapon that killed her....

We met with Mafia II‘s producer Alex Cox, and senior gameplay producer Jarek Kolář, to discuss the construction of the game’s virtual city, and the elusive art of writing a credible videogame story… What similarities and differences can we expect between the PC and console versions of Mafia II? Alex Cox: The differences are largely going to be the stuff you’d expect to come for free on your decent PC hardware – so you’re going to get high-resolution textures, slightly better performance and some of the other extra things you’d expect from the extra processing power on a PC....
