Geeks Vs Loneliness Body Dysmorphic Disorder

This week, we’re proud as punch to add Chloe Catchpole to the Den Of Geek team, and she sent us this wonderful piece on the battles that she faces on a day to day basis. Chloe: we think you’re awesome. Over to you… I feared school picture day more than any other, dreading the thought of my severe ugliness being captured and turned into a physical media available for purchase....

Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance Review

And the result of all these negatives? A bombastic, insane and fantastically manic piece of action cinema that finally uses the power of Nic Cage in all his glory. Much like the other films that bear the mark of Neveldine and Taylor, Ghost Rider 2 absolutely won’t be for everyone, with their rollerblade camera shots, frenetic style and, at times, juvenile humour shining through, I think it’s safe to say that anyone who doesn’t have time for Crank, Gamer or flaming urination should probably steer clear....

Girls Season 6 Episode 10 Review Latching

6.10 Latching But for an episode that culminated in an extended dancing/goofing off montage, I thought it was kind of a downer. I mean, Shoshanna definitively rejected everyone. Sure, Hannah and Jessa made up, which was nice, but there was something of an implication that none of the girls would ever really be involved in each other’s lives again and that this was the last hurrah. That’s a decent, bittersweet idea, but it was too abrupt a break for me, most specifically because Marnie and Hannah barely even interacted and, though the show has shifted its character dynamics drastically over the course of its run, I always felt Marnie and Hannah were the foundation relationship of the series....

Gotham Episode 7 Review Penguin S Umbrella

This review contains spoilers In long, there were plenty of elements to enjoy this week. The revelation that Jim chose to save Oswald in the pilot episode finally became common knowledge to the entire cast in Penguin’s Umbrella, which proved to be a welcome catalyst for an action-packed hour of telly. Although Gotham sometimes feels like it lacks direction, this week it certainly found its focus. For starters, we had a shockingly effective return for Fish Mooney, with an added rage boiling in her belly at the news of Oswald being alive....

Gotham Season 3 Episode 2 Review Burn The Witch

3.2 Burn The Witch Leather jackets and bottles of beer are the easy shorthand for ‘our protagonist is becoming a bit of a dick.’ And this week, that basic idea from the season premiere was fleshed out with some actual plot. It was genuinely shocking to see Jim let Fish Mooney go free at the end of the episode, to manipulate the GCPD, to encourage Penguin’s mob, and to do nothing when Penguin was later seen celebrating after a fair number of people died....

Gotham Season 4 Episode 1 Review Pax Penguina

Gotham Season 4, Episode 1 When we catch back up with the Gotham crew in the Season 4 premiere, it has been three months since the events of the Season 3 finale. And guess what? Crime is at an all-time low. Huzzah! Gotham is saved! This is in no small part to the crime licensing program Penguin has implemented across the city. If you don’t have a license to commit a crime (which, depicted here, seem to be mostly robberies) and you go ahead and try to anyway, then Penguin will sic Victor Zsasz on you....

Grimm Season 5 Episode 9 Review Star Crossed

5.9 Star Crossed Alongside a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how Hadrian’s Wall operates, a Wesen storyline that fits well into the show’s main story arc and a potential jab at modern politics, we were also witness to some previously unseen levels of horror. We are given a glimpse of how Meisner, Trubel and Eve have been working as a team to counter the threat of Black Claw. They each bring something different to the fight – whether that’s martial arts prowess, combat skills or mad telekinesis combined with a disconcerting lack of empathy – they get the job done....

Haven Shot In The Dark Review

Audrey (no one bothers calling her Lexie anymore) and William are both in the hospital recovering from their matching gunshot wounds. Nathan’s a little worried about their little connection, since William is obviously dangerous and hurting him will only hurt Audrey. However, suddenly and inexplicably, Audrey and Will are both completely healed and William has escaped the hospital with help from his two goons. Then we have the book. It looks like a cheesy horror novel, but Audrey recognizes it, and it seems to have magical powers whenever Jennifer is holding it....

How Jonathan Ames You Were Never Really Here Made It To Theaters

The movie, directed by Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin) and featuring a stunning lead performance by Phoenix, is based on a novella by Jonathan Ames, whose many years writing comedy for the stage and TV are a jarring counterpoint to the darkness of this story. With You Were Never Really Here expanding into more theaters today (and please see this movie if you can), Den of Geek recently had the chance to speak with Ames about the creation of the book, the character and the movie, his thoughts on his two TV shows and which medium he enjoys writing in the most....

Identity Episode 2 Review

I’ll admit I didn’t warm to the first Identity story. There was far too much exposition, not enough character development, and some decidedly cheesy dialogue. The writer and creator of the show, Ed Whitmore, wrote to me afterwards and said I’d been ‘a little harsh’. And for the record I probably was, although I claim the mitigating circumstances of the opening Keeley Hawes conversation with the ‘damaged goods’ line. The facet of identity theft covered here is one where someone takes the life of another and then lives as them....

Chloe Moretz, who’s a perplexing choice for the film from the start, plays teen cello progeny Mia, who is forced to choose between life and death when her family get into an horrific car accident. Her excursions in limbo/the hallways of the hospital she and her family were brought to after the crash are weaved between flashbacks detailing the year leading up to the event, slowly revealing how much is at stake for Mia if she chooses to leave....

In Time Review

The mentally weary Hamilton has had enough of living, and longs for the solace of death. As thanks for his assistance, he donates his century to an unwitting, sleeping Salas, deeming him worthy of the gift due to his honourable and selfless conduct. Through a penchant for high-stakes gambling Salas ingratiates himself with super-rich tycoon Philippe Weis (Vincent Kartheiser – Angel’s Connor and Mad Men’s Pete Campbell, 32) and, more importantly, his glamourous daughter Sylvia (Amanda Seyfried, 25)....

Intruders Episode 1 Review She Was Provisional

Such recommendations can have polarizing effects. On one hand these are writers who have made their money churning out commercial paperbacks. On the other hand they have written consistently engaging work for decades. The show starts with a birthday. They show the girl an old-timey record spindle then stand back and watch as she begins to change....

Jason Statham Interview Expendables 2 Stallone And More

If you’ve read our review for The Expendables 2, than you’ll know that I thought it was a film that managed to improve on the original film in every way and not just by putting every one of my adolescent heroes (except Kurt Russell) on screen at the same time. Funny, head shatteringly violent and extremely bombastic, The Expendables 2 takes the now established team, headed up by Stallone’s Barney Ross and throws even more one liners and cannon fodder their way making for one great piece of action cinema....

Killing Eve Episode 4 Review Sorry Baby

Killing Eve Season 1, Episode 4 One of my favorite parts of a traditional spy drama is how it doesn’t tend to use time jumps, instead packing the action into as tight a period of time as possible to intensify the urgency of the drama. While Killing Evemoved a little too quickly to really sell its plot in last week’s episode, “Sorry Baby” is the best this good show has ever been, giving us just enough time to dwell in the consequence of Villanelle’s violent behavior, while moving the spy plot along in some very intriguing ways....

Oh, Nicolas Cage. Nicky boy, what are we going to do with you? There’s just something about you that’s so… I don’t know, likable?
