The basic set up isn’t really the problem, and it’s simple enough: two separate camping trips take place in the Australian wilderness, and neither group stays happy campers for long. Harriet Dyer and Ian Meadows put in highly likeable performances as Sam and Ian, a smitten young couple who take a tent to the beach and soon come to regret it. Julian Garner, Maya Strange and Tiarnie Coupland play a similarly adorable family, who had a similar idea and brought a young child along with them....

Killjoys Season 3 Episode 4 “It’s never really over til you bang your ex.” Once again it’s the character groupings that drive the story as Johnny and Dutch finally address some festering issues that potentially threaten their friendship. Thankfully, no one has asked me to name my favorite character in Killjoys, but the richly developed dynamic that exists between these two never ceases to delight as we learn more of their relationship backstory....

Once upon a time, 24 used to be tense, surprising, and utterly gripping television? Now, while there’s fun to be had in watching Kiefer Sutherland go through the motions, you simply wonder if there’s not much left in the tank. So many strong side characters have come and gone, and each season now has to introduce a new lot to try and get us to care about. It left the most interesting characters in the show as the newly-introduced Taylor family....

Such books as Cat’s Cradle, Player Piano and Breakfast Of Champions offered up amusing and often worryingly accurate portraits of human nature at its lowest, where lives are ruined or existences snuffed out through naivety or plain madness. In short, Vonnegut was one of the sharpest sci-fi writers of all time. Over the intervening years, Weide would himself go on to enjoy considerable success: he was producer and director on the hit series Curb Your Enthusiasm, and received acclaim for Woody Allen: A Documentary (2012)....

When confronted, Unalaq reminds Korra that the Avatar must remain politically neutral for the good of both tribes and also dark spirits blah blah blah, but she ain’t buying his bullshit a second longer and orders him to release her father, extract the troops, and return to the North. He’s less than cooperative, and Korra’s response is…fireball! Unalaq fights back and his waterbending is pretty sweet, but he’s no match for Team Avatar, who stun him long enough to hightail it so they can catch up with the prison ship....

The panel was moderated by Sam Roberts and included wrestlers Rey Mysterio, Catrina, Ivelisse, and Taya, as well as referee Marty Elias, executive producers Eric Van Wagenen and Skip Chaisson, and AAA co-owner Dorian Roldan. It began with a trailer for season 3 (which had been playing non-stop on certain screens in the building throughout the weekend), turned into questions from Roberts, a couple clips were shown involving the next episode, and then a somewhat short Q&A from the fans in attendance....

1.2 Lucifer, Stay. Good Devil There’s no doubting that it’s clever… but does that make it wise? Finding ways to squeeze in references to ‘Old Scratch’ (his favourite handle, apparently) as a source of entertainment is effective enough now, just two episodes in, but stretch to two series when all the best allusions have been done and you have to wonder if it won’t begin to feel a trifle tired....

Season 6 left Don in arguably his most dire straits yet. At the conclusion of the finale, he’d effectively lost his fight with the bottle, seriously damaged his relationship with his wife and family, and been ousted from his hard-won position at SCDP. The fall and rise of Don Draper might be well-trodden ground, but each fall precedes a more arduous rise and season seven shows us the most difficult thus far....

5.1 & 5.2 Orientation And boy, did we need it. After six weeks of watching Marvel’s Inhumans endlessly wander around Hawaii aggressively not using their powers, it sure feels good to have some proper Marvel action on ABC. So where to begin? Last season, things ended with Phil Coulson waking up in space. This season, things kick off with a flashback to some weird alien dude leading a strike force to abduct our agents....

The army aren’t too fussed about it. They organise a training event for the exact same woods and send in some very English sounding Scottish soldiers, except for one who sounds so Scottish he makes up for the rest. “What ho, old chap,” says one of the soldiers “we appear to be under attack from some large animal men who are also hounds. How terribly bloody frightful!” “Ochh aye. That’s a wee bit of a surprise,” says the Scottish sounding one....

I didn’t have the luxury of the second viewing, but instead I deferred to time. I watched Moonlight a few weeks ago, and – appreciating that the internet era demands an instant reaction to pretty much everything – I waited it out. Because if I’d written this review minutes after finishing the film, it would have been positive, but I wasn’t blown away, or whatever the go-to superlative of choice is....

I count Wes Anderson amongst my favourite filmmakers and I think what makes his movies so enjoyable for me is his use of music to capture the emotion of a scene. Obviously, there are a number of filmmakers who also excel at this, but Anderson’s choices are most in tune with my personal tastes. I’ve rediscovered songs I had forgot about and discovered songs and artists that have become favourites of mine as a result of watching his films....

The episode opened by mining one of Peep Show’s most reliable sources of laughs throughout the years; flying defiantly in the face of all reason, both Mark and Jez continued to harbour their own piteous self-delusions. Mark’s desperate attempts to resuscitate his relationship with April via fax was matched only by Jez’s series of increasingly outlandish age-equations; in classic Usbourne fashion, Jez’s reasoning bore little resemblance to a cognisant argument, sounding instead more like some mid-life crisis-themed episode of Numberwang....

When the new movie was announced and Elizabeth Banks was cast as Rita, fans and casual viewers alike were shocked. A big Hollywood actress taking on the role of a character that was primarily known for cackling and having her lines dubbed over? What would she bring to the role? Well with the movie out now, the reaction has been mixed. Some praised her for bringing some cheesy fun to the more grounded movie while others think she wasn’t scary enough....

Ethan Hawke plays a Temporal Agent, an otherwise nameless man who, thanks to a device disguised as a violin case, can travel through time. He’s on the trail of a terrorist called the Fizzle Bomber, whose next attack, in 1975 New York, will result in the deaths of thousands of people. The Agent therefore travels back to the era and assumes the guise of a bartender, where a casual conversation with a local barfly leads us to suspect that the Agent may have already found his culprit....

5.8 Scream For Me When there are unseen forces working against them, knowable bad guys operating in the shadows and general teenage angst to be dealing with, they have each other’s backs, but the moment one of them breaks ranks, that support system crumbles. As Aria put it, when you’re all living on a knife’s edge and just trying to get through each day without getting murdered/arrested, a weak link can be incredibly dangerous, and the rest of the group see Hanna as that weak link right now....

I sat this week with my brother-in-law, who stated, “Oh, is this still on? Its not Doctor Who, is it?” And while I agree with him that the weekly dinosaur adventures are not up to the same level of quality as the BBC’s Saturday night sci-fi offering, and while he, like myself and other geeks everywhere, are sitting in trepidation waiting until April when Matt Smith and co. return to our screens, Primeval is a servicable, if not quite great Saturday evening ‘warm-up’ event....

For eight seasons, I have regaled in the adventures of Shawn and Gus, and it has been a delight to review the show during its home stretch. However, I couldn’t in good conscience give a pass or recommendation to “A Nightmare on State Street.” The episode, directed by star James Roday, just does not have any real narrative flow, and instead feels like a malaise of scenes strung together. Sure, it was cool to see Mira Sorvino, William Zabka, Phylicia Rashad, Curt Smith, and other ‘80s mainstays in one episode, but it did not gel into a cohesive whole....

The scene opens on an operating theatre. The atmosphere is tense, and you can almost smell the Dettol and plasma. On the table lies an elderly patient, his rib cage exposed and glistening red. The surgeon struggles to remove some hideously mutated organ, the beads of sweat standing out on his brow as he hacks and saws with his scalpel. Junior doctors look on with anxious faces; they know that something’s terribly, terribly wrong....

But as witty as I found it, deep down that didn’t avert my concern that it was playing to a particular intellectual audience, and a possibly narrow one at that. But the show did reasonably well until the writers’ strike undermined it, and every other show last year. I’ll admit up front that the viewing figures suggest not, but so many shows this year have had a rocky start that I’m not ready to accept Pushing Daisies needs the Pie Maker’s touch yet....
