While it is altogether possible that Quentin saw the script, he might have just caught the emotional flow of it through his own flipped creative channels. The plaintiff is pointing to an admission that Tarantino made that he steals movie ideas all the time. “I steal from every single movie ever made,” Tarantino told Empire magazine in 1994. The director, writer, producer and weekend key grip, says every one of his movies has ripped off some classic film that Tarantino can’t get out of his head....

As Sherriff Fred and the Arcadia Police comb the river, it becomes known that up to six bodies could be underwater. The bodies haven’t been in the river long, and were recently placed there, and if you watched “Echoes,” you know who’s responsible for them. Margaret dug up skeletons in the factory, and it seems she threw them in the river. Although, if Margaret was looking to lose the bones, she must know that the river brings things back more often than carrying them away....

But now the returned have started turning up in droves, and the government are getting involved. Forget about Jacob Langston returning, because the more interesting Langston newly back from the dead is Barbara, and the emotions she evokes from her daughter and husband are far more dramatic and complicated then anything we saw Henry Langston mull over endlessly. In its last hour, Resurrection even presents a true antagonist and ends on a mysterious cliffhanger....

4.11 Data’s Day Specifically, Data is focusing on his various friendships. He is supposed to be giving away the bride – Keiko Ishikawa – at her wedding to Chief O’Brien. Unfortunately, she has cold feet and decided not to go through with it. After confirming that this will make her happy, Data cheerily informs Chief O’Brien of the devastating news before moving on to the day’s next task. Part of his duties involve assisting Picard and a recently-boarded Vulcan, Ambassador T’Pel....

4.15 First Contact When he awakes, Riker dutifully dispenses his cover story about how his abnormalities are a genetic condition, but the staff of the hospital are immediately suspicious that he might be an alien attracted by their world’s increasing forays into spaceflight. Elsewhere, the Malcorian Chancellor Durken, his minister for security (Krola) and his chief scientist (Yale) discuss this very topic, with Durken arguing that spaceflight goes against their species’ cultural nature, and Yale pushing hard to test her new warp drive....

This review contains spoilers. As the Enterprise prepares to explore a strange dark matter nebula, Data and well-known Enterprise crew member Lieutenant (Junior Grade) D’Sora, with whom he has a long-standing platonic relationship that just happened to develop entirely off-screen, are modifying a torpedo for surveying purposes. As she explains her feelings about a recent break-up, Data offers her a cold unfeeling robot shoulder to cry on. Data explains to Guinan that D’Sora gave him a passionate kiss in the torpedo bay, which is understandably confusing for him because it’s more typical to give someone a passionate kiss in the mouth....

3.6 The Incontrovertible Truth The Incontrovertible Truth is a darkly atmospheric tale. The rain pours down outside the station throughout the entire episode, the station lit by gas lamps and half in shadow. It creates something quite claustrophobic, particularly as the characters start working through not only the case, but also the various problems that they have been having throughout the series so far. Chief amongst this is the concerns around Edmund Reid’s health and his quick descent into that focus on work which first severed his relationship with his family and now threatens to do so again....

In a departure from the manga, we open with Ami’s point of view, her world in which Usagi and her friends are background players. This was a nice way bring us into Ami’s world and set up her motivations right up front. It was a nice way to bookend the opening and closing scenes of this story (not counting the tag), showing how much Ami’s life, even outside of Sailor Mercury, has changed just for having befriended Usagi....

Shameless Season 9 Episode 2 Last week, I sadly missed the opportunity to review the season 9 premiere of Shameless. This is due to being in Toronto for TIFF (which you can read the first wave of our coverage for here), but it doesn’t ease the sting of not sharing with you fine, fellow Alibi lifers the joy of Frank’s delirious group therapy session with the parents at Liam’s prep school, or enjoying with every one of us the revelation that Gay Jesus has turned into Gay Jesus-Spartacus on the inside of Chi-Town’s most open-minded correctional facility....

There’s something a bit smug about writing a spoiler-free review. It’s as if we’ve opened our Christmas presents early while everyone else’s are still wrapped up tantalisingly beneath the tree. The envy runs both ways; you wish you’d seen it, and we wish we still had the joy of it all to come. Moreover, we wish we could really talk about it, because God knows, when it’s over, there’s going to be a lot to say....

Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called “The Pledge”. The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course… it probably isn’t. The second act is called “The Turn”. The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary....

But also: jokes. Well that’s a wrap on Silicon Valley, season 4 or as it could have been called “Journey Into Richard Hendricks’ Heart of Darkness.” It was certainly a dark season for Richard. After spending so many years being labeled a “pussy” he overreacted and spent almost the entirety of this season lying, cheating (in many different ways) and stealing to get his idea for a completely independent internet off the ground....

Alex, our hero, occupies the black, white, and tans of his world, unassuming, living today in order to move on to tomorrow. To the outside world, there isn’t anything special about Alex, who is a lowly fact checker at a magazine. His boss hates him, his girlfriend doesn’t understand him, and no one will help him mourn his recently-deceased grandfather, who spends his last days in a nursing home full of terrible orderlies....

Chosen Path After a slow and steady beginning, last week’s episode brought the fire back to the series (quite literally) with the return of Gannicus, the destruction of the arena, some major deaths, plans unwravelled and plot revelations aplenty. How on earth could this week follow that? As it turns out… pretty comfortably. Sure, we didn’t get the big set piece of last week, but it took the full hour to examine the fallout....

Star Wars Rebels Season 2, Episode 11 Sabine’s story has been revealed very gradually, with pieces of her backstory slowly coming into view. That’s an unusual amount of interconnectedness for Rebels these days: the second season has tended more toward standalone episodes than a gradual arc. However, this season has been good at giving out Sabine’s story in particular in controlled amounts. That continues in “The Protector of Concord Dawn,” which finds the young Mandalorian back among her own people....

Contrast that with the Oscar-winning performance of Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady, where she brought Margaret Thatcher to the screen. As strong as her performance was, I always felt it a little more edging towards visualising Thatcher rather than digging into her character. There’s a broader problem with the film there, that’s not down to Streep. But it’s the continual conundrum of casting a film based on a real person, still fresh in many people’s memories....

As the series has progressed Steven continues to struggle to accept the flaws in his mother while still trying to love her. It hasn’t been easy but recent episodes have seen him finally start to understand why she did what she did. “No one is a straight good guy and no one is a straight bad guy, its about shades of gray,” adds fellow writer Ben Levin. In writing the series the team focused on building up Rose Quartz for both Steven and the viewers and then tearing her down....
