It included all the relevant plot twists while referencing game changers like the hellhounds of season three and John Winchester’s devil’s trap bullet. Crowley, in his own parallel obsession with human blood, has gained emotion he never expected. Abaddon travels back to the 1700s to scoop up Gavin, Crowley’s son. Gavin appeared momentarily in an earlier episode post mortem, a vengeful ghost....

Supernatural Season 13 Episode 11 After last week’s backdoor pilot episode, we were treated to some more Sheriff Donna action, though in a more muted tone. Donna gets the boys involved in her niece’s missing person case. It’s not your typical case. In fact, the writers incorporated the supernatural element here was really unique, and added to the fresh nature of this episode. Sam also had a different mood this episode....

9.19 Alex Annie Alexis Ann The fact that this episode is something special is evident from the very beginning. It appears to start like any other episode: there’s a poor helpless girl locked in a room in a police station, and you just know that the evil monster is going to come get her and kill her, leaving a bloody corpse that spurs the Winchesters onto a new hunt. That’s the opening of pretty much every Supernatural episode ever....

Granted, I’d been watching the show for a good few years by this point, and was around six years old when I caught Logopolis, the first story I ever watched. But while I enjoyed the Davison era and tolerated Colin Baker, I really found myself warming to the Sylvester McCoy reign in the Tardis quite a lot. Well, Teen Wolf is back and remade for an entirely new generation. If you remember Teen Wolf, then you remember Michael J Fox riding on top of a van, possibly dunking a basketball as a wolf man, and generally being everything great about 80’s movies. This isn’t that. The sport is also different; basketball has been replaced by lacrosse, I guess because lacrosse is the new hip sport. Still, the general details are the same: Scott’s still kind of a loser, he’s got a best friend name Stiles (Dylan O’Brien), and of course, he’s still a werewolf....

Cromartie abducts Michelle Dixon at a desert gas station, and then leaves a convenient trail of crumbs for Charlie to lead Sarah and Reese to him. His plan is to isolate them so he can pursue John without their interference and also to find his location, when Sarah foolishly calls his mobile phone. Once the trap springs it’s really only blind luck that saves the day. They’re all been cleverly outflanked by Cromartie, whom the TV News think is a psychopathic ex-TV personality from a cheesy Hercules-alike show....

25) The Hunger Games (James Newton Howard, 2012) A late replacement for Danny Elfman, the ever-mercurial Newton Howard’s contribution to the Hunger Games series is one of its most emotional yet undervalued assets. Whilst Howard’s later scores laid on the operatic grandeur (in-keeping with Katniss Everdeen’s emotional journey), it’s the first soundtrack’s minimalist, earthy blend of folksy textures with occasional brutal action and soaring emotion that is most effective. That the score was overlooked in favour of producer T-Bone Burnett’s involvement was perhaps inevitable, but Howard’s work is well worth a second appraisal....

11.12 The Matrimonial Metric When Amy reveals that she’s still in the process of choosing a maid of honour for the wedding, she asks Sheldon to change the subject should it come up in conversation with their friends. He somehow manages to throw them off the scent despite some close calls, and the couple later decide to use detailed metrics to decide who should be in the wedding party. This is of course pretty arbitrary because, as the audience, we know that Sheldon would never choose Raj or Howard to be his best man, and Amy has been in love with Penny for multiple seasons now....

“Gina Zanetakos” sounds like a Bond girl, probably the one who betrays Bond and he has to kill her after they sleep together or something. She looks like one, too. And despite a really cool and claustrophobic elevator fight where she kicks Agent Ressler’s well-groomed ass, she isn’t all that menacing, her motives are unclear, and is handily the least memorable villain The Blacklist has offered up so far. And let’s not forget that this is the same show that gave us an episode with an evil humanitarian, so that’s saying something....

The Lich: Part 2 Let’s at least credit the show’s creators with an honest attempt to make worthwhile entertainment, shall we? This week is the second part of The Cape‘s first two-parter, The Lich, not that you’d really know it, based on the shift in tone, focus and narrative structure. Most of the episode’s core is based on an oddly expository hallucination Orwell has, alongside The Cape having to get his kid to recruit his wife....

Aside from that time Dean Goodall’s mum ironed his shell suit then made him wear it to the year seven summer disco, the early nineties weren’t even that much fun. They were listless days that passed in a scrunchie-fuelled haze. Pogs came and pogs went. We drowned our ennui by drinking melted blue ice poles and doing the Time Warp....

The Exorcist Episode 7 The undertone of The Exorcist series is about peeling back the layers of evil. Constantly playing with the idea of whether evil plants its seeds and waits or whether people themselves draw evil in by their thoughts and actions. It’s not a new concept, but one that is definitely worth spending time on when a city is infested with demons. The theme of “Chapter Seven: Father of Lies,” however shifts the focus — in a natural progression —to faith....

2.2 Flash Of Two Worlds The sheer amount of stuff Flash Of Two Worlds throws our way is a sign of the show’s very lofty ambitions for its second season. We have Jay Garrick, we have an alternate universe in which Harrison Wells is alive, Cisco is discovering his Vibe powers and we have Iris’ mother back from estrangement to give her character something to do. This is episode two, and we’re juggling a thousand storylines and character motivations....

3.12 The Edge & 3.13 A Simple Trade There’s not a serial killer alive that can stop Ryan Hardy, no matter how skilled or how well-trained or how well-armed that person might be. There’s only one thing that can kill Ryan Hardy, and that’s the killing machine known as the Fox Network. The word came down this week that The Following has lost its following and will now be getting the death penalty, much as Joe Carroll did a few weeks ago....
