The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 13 Review The Same Boat

6.13 The Same Boat Fortunately, this week’s episode features one of the show’s strongest characters and one of the characters that’s been neglected since the move to Alexandria. Carol and Maggie, last seen at the end of last week’s episode getting captured by a mysterious member of Negan’s crew, get to have a little time together after Maggie’s attempt to storm off and help Glenn and Rick and the rest of the crew with the Savior outpost turns into them getting captured and held for what is essentially ransom....

Timeless Episode 5 Review The Alamo

Timeless Season 1, Episode 5 That being said, the Alamo was a great place for Flynn to try and derail the rise of America and, by extension, Rittenhouse. As a rallying cry of patriotism, they don’t get much more important than this key battle in the Texas Revolution. Timeless has really set the bar high with its immersive historical settings, which must cost a fortune in set design and costuming, and the backdrop was completely believable....

Titanic Episode 1 Review

This review contains spoilers. If that’s not good enough qualification for you, then who should pop up in the Titanic cast but new Doctor Who companion Jenna-Louise Coleman, whose appearance means we can treat the review as Who-related research if that helps. Coleman plays a pretty maid who slips in and out of the ship’s first-class cabins maintaining fresh-faced chirpiness in the face of both cocky Italians and ladies in extraordinarily large hats....

Tower Block Review

Most of the action takes place, as the title suggests, in a big tower block. This is, however, a tower block that’s ripe for demolition, with nobody in the surrounding area, and with just a bunch of people left living on the top floor. It’s an uneasy life they live, not least thanks to the presence of Kurtis, played by Jack O’Connell. As he goes to door to door demanding protection money, you can’t help but think you’re in for another gritty urban drama....

Turn Epiphany Review

The episode begins on Christmas Eve with the slaves of Selah Strong celebrating the holiday by circle-dancing and singing “Read ’Em, John,” a song actually known from the Sea Islands of Georgia. After reading a notice nailed up by a British soldier, the young teenager Cicero (Darren Alford) brings his mother startling news: the royal authorities have seized all the property of their Patriot master and declared his slaves to be free....

Under The Dome Force Majeure Review

It was Rebecca Price who took out the caterpillars last week, and it was Chester Mill’s former science teacher that combated the rain this week. Rebecca could have been a plot convenience—a character that simply existed to clue the viewers into any needed information regarding anything science-y, a learned exposition machine. Speaking of wildcards, we have Melanie Cross. Melanie is one of those characters where the success of the season’s narrative hinges on the mystery surrounding her identity....

Unknown Review

Before I get the review underway properly, I need to make it clear that, due to the nature of the film’s plot involving amnesia and discovery, it’s probably best to avoid reading any reviews at all, until after you’ve seen Unknown. (Don’t go IMDbing the cast, either). I’ll try to keep things as spoiler-free as possible, but as a quick overview, I can safely say this: Unknown is tense and thoroughly enjoyable, with its few action-styled thrills being an absolute highlight....

Veep Season 6 Episode 2 Review Library

Veep Season 6 Episode 2 Veep season 6, episode 2, “Library,” opens with former President Selina Meyer sitting comfortably and recognizably at her old desk at the White House. At first, the audience is almost led to believe that, perhaps some horrible mistake was made and the first woman president of the United States will be more than a footnote as an unelected president with the shortest term in history. Then we remember that this is HBO, which is known for its dream and fantasy sequences....

Voltron Season 7 Episode 4 Review The Feud

Voltron Season 7 Episode 4 Well that was… weird. It feels awkward to go from such a seismic shift in the Voltron universe to a game show episode. The episode has some moments, I love the fake ads and Pidge faking out the judge and taking out the camera, but it’s completely misplaced. We need to see the Paladins reactions to what they just learned. We need to see them plan their next step....

When Den Of Geek Took On The Crystal Maze

There probably isn’t much in the way of TV game shows that I’ve sat and watched and thought you know what, I really fancy doing that (bar The Movie Game, Fun House or Pointless). But if you take a step back in time to the early 90s, 9-year-old me really, really wanted to do the assault course on The Krypton Factor and to do basically everything on The Crystal Maze....

Wonders Of The Universe Episode 1 Review Destiny

Last year was a particularly good one for lovers of astrophysical documentaries. Firstly, we had Stephen Hawking’s Universe, a grandiose, yet speculative voyage through the mind-meltingly vast and incomprehensibly complex nature of nature itself. Then, almost as if we are forced, by law, to pay a corporation to make interesting factual programmes for us, we got an unexpected treat in the form of Wonders Of The Solar System from the BBC, presented by the incongruously boyish and immediately watchable Professor Brian Cox....

Woody Allen The Films Of The 1970S A Critical Look Back

Of the seven films he made in the 70s, four films can be classified as slapstick comedies. These films, Bananas (1971), Everything You Always Wanted to Know about SexBut Were Afraid to Ask (1972), Sleeper (1973), and Love and Death (1975), all share qualities of the traditional American slapstick genre, dating back to the works of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and the Marx Brothers. Like his predecessors, Woody Allen took impossible situations and absurd encounters, using excess and theatrical exaggeration as means to create a humorous story....

Wynonna Earp Season 3 What S Next For Wayhaught

“I think that, ultimately, the reason why people are tentative to tell their secrets to Waverly is because they know how sensitive and how hard she will take a lot of stuff,” Provost-Chalkley told Den of Geek at SDCC. “So I think they’re actually trying to protect her … But, of course, it can be frustrating because it’s like, ‘Another thing! Like another thing I have to deal with?’” At least it sounds like Nicole hasn’t been keeping this secret quite as long as she did the secret of her ex-wife....

X Men Days Of Future Past Review

Based on the much loved two-book run of the same name from 1981, Days Of Future Past takes us forward to the year 2023 – a bleak, eternally benighted future where mutants and humans alike have been subdued by advanced robots called the Sentinels. Under the watchful eye of an elder Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart), the X-Men make a last ditch effort to go back in time in order to save the present....

Xxx Return Of Xander Cage Review

Except it didn’t, because it can’t ever really move on. So it is that Vin Diesel, riding the success of his ongoing career revival, finds himself starring in a new and sadly half-baked xXx movie as Xander Cage. If that sounds fun, sadly it doesn’t gel as it should: Cage’s allies are characterless nobodies with precisely one skill each. Sniper, thief, martial arts expert, and for some reason, DJ. Their quest: retrieve Pandora’s Box, a piece of hardware that can allow the user to turn the global satellite network into a deadly weapon....

12 Monkeys Primary Review

12 Monkeys Season 2, Episode 2 Few shows are willing to trust their audience the way 12 Monkeys does. The show skillfully lays out its time travel intricacies and has enough faith in its viewers’ collective ability to figure it all out. With a timeline shift effectively pushing back the plague, changing motivations for several characters, and even resurrecting some fallen comrades, this second episode begins season 2 in earnest after last week’s transition....

30 Rock Season 5 Episode 14 Review Double Edged Sword

When 30 Rock‘s good, it’s really good. Double-Edged Sword treated us to a pithy setup, a fun Inception gag and a laugh out loud moment involving Liz’s flies, before the credits had even rolled. As the title announced, double-edged swords were slicing their way through the TGS studios this week. Tracy realised that the life of a multiple award winner isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, while Liz and Jack initially revelled in, then struggled with having partners who shared their every insane character trait....

9 Film Review

9 may be computer animation, but it is definitely not for children. Based on director/writer Shane Acker’s Oscar-nominated short film, 9 is the story of nine little clockwork ‘stitchpunk’ dolls who are the only remnants of life on earth after a catastrophic war between humans and machines. Think of it as kind of a post-Terminator world in which nothing survived save the nine stitchpunks and an ominous entity known as The Beast....

Afterlife With Archie 3 Archie Comics Review

Afterlife With Archie #3 splits the cast up a bit with meaningful moments spotlighting Archie, Betty and Veronica, Moose and Midge, and Mr. Lodge. Mr. Lodge in particular has a profoundly thought provoking sequence that reveals the billionaire’s guilt over his wife’s death from so long ago. Lodge is so much more than a foil to Archie; he is his daughter’s protector and the first line of defense against the zombie threat....

Agents Of Shield A Hen In The Wolf House Review

Welcome to the Marvel Cinematic Universe Bobbi Morse. The twelve year old West Coast Avengers fan in me is giddy. Giddy, I say! How was the debut of the former comic book lady love of Clint Barton? Read on! So we learned that Skye is not Skye’s real name, which brings up so many possibilities. Jessica Drew? Crystal of the Inhumans? Carol Danvers? I’m guessing most rabid fans are going in one of these directions and it seems Marvel has a comic book destination to arrive at with Skye....
