2.13 Halloween & 2.14 Halloween II Oh hey, everyone! We’re back, albeit briefly, for a Halloween whodunit, for once not in Lakewood but still very much involving the Lakewood Five, er…Four, now. In the wake of incarcerated Kieran’s untimely–or perfectly timed, some might say–demise, the Four are whisked off to an island getaway for a little rest and recovery. Of course, as we’re at the beginning of a two-hour Scream special episode, we know that neither of those things is gonna happen....

Sara (Sara Paxton) has graciously invited her college friends Nick (Dustin Milligan), Beth (Katharine McPhee), Blake (Chris Zylka), Maya (Alyssa Diaz), Gordon (Joel David Moore), and Malik (Sinqua Walls) back to her family’s home in the middle of a lake in Louisiana bayou country. It’s time for drinking, fornicating, and of course… shark attacks. That’s right, kids. Its shark time, and they’re hungry for college-age morons! Unfortunately, Shark Night is PG-13 as well as 3D, so it even manages to fail as a B-movie....

While Skins Fire and Pure chose to focus on the floundering social and professional lives of old characters, Rise is much more of a traditional crime drama, albeit with the protagonist’s dark past already taken care of. It seems that Cook hasn’t stopped running since the end of the fourth series, and the death and betrayal that characterised his teen years is still following him around like a bad smell....

Director Oliver Stone makes no secret of which side of the argument he comes down on, and Snowden depicts its subject as a kind of modern folk hero: a whistleblower willing to sacrifice his comfortable lifestyle and even his safety to hold the US government to account. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the perfect choice to play Snowden: initially a 20-something who’s invalided out of the army after injuring his legs and displays an extraordinary talent for programming when he joins the CIA....

4.3 Dorylus The two big narratives this week are both relating to the deal made with the Mexican cartel, namely the changes to the Sons’ gun running operation, and the shift into drugs. More on the drugs later. Whilst moving guns into a truck at Happy’s grandmother’s house, Kozik gets involved in a basketball game with some of the local kids in the area, with the incentive being a cash prize....

7.9 What A Piece Of Work Is Man Well, at least something happened. About halfway through this episode, right around the time Bobby was shot through the head, I muttered to myself ‘finally’. It wasn’t that I necessarily wanted Bobby to die (I don’t know why they had to drag out the inevitable so long), but something needed to shift in a big way, something needed to remind us that we are in the final hours of this show and anything can happen, and the best way to do that was probably via the brutal removal of a character who has been a part of the show from the beginning....

In this alternate reality, an episode of South Park “aired.” You’re going to have to trust me on this. I know this all might sound confusing, but the episode really did happen. I can prove it: Cartman tricks Butters, sending him on a wild adventure that ends with Butters getting grounded. Before we could even point out that we’ve been down this road with Cartman and Butters X amount of times, “Grounded Vindaloop” kicks into another dimension....

The film was also pretty meta for its time, even featuring a scene where writer/director Brooks showed off merchandise for the inevitable sequel, Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money. An actual sequel to the film never came to pass, but in the three decades since Spaceballs‘ release, rumors have occasionally surfaced that one still might be in the works. This week, Brooks attended a screening of his classic horror-comedy Young Frankenstein, getting up to take questions from the audience, where he was once again probed on the possibility of a Spaceballs sequel....

1.8 An Old Accustom’d Feast It certainly wants us to care about Emery and Roman’s new romance, which has apparently been going on for a while without Emery getting around to dumping her actual boyfriend, Grayson. I wonder, if we can see so clearly that her actions, along with the video footage of Atrians dumping Grayson, apparently drugged, will push him over to joining his parents’ cause in the Red Hawks, then why can’t she?...

1.13 Passion Lends Them Power But, then again, the last ten minutes of Passion Lends Them Power were arguably stronger than the show has ever been, with plenty of deaths, mayhem, romantic reunions and switched allegiances all making that final sequence more exciting than anything we’ve seen in the past twelve weeks. Does this mean the show would have grown into a classic slice of sci-fi if it had been given a chance at season two?...

In the original series, some episodes are so good that they entirely changed the Star Trek mythology and Space Seed is certainly in that group. It’s a relatively simple story, but presented in a very tight way that elevates the characters and their ambitions. Written by Gene L. Coon, prolific writer and producer for the show, it extrapolates what might happen if a historical character and dictator was deposited through time onto the Enterprise, and how the crew might react to him....

That’s far from the only vivid scene in this episode. Yoda’s fight against a shadowy version of himself is at first a bit difficult to take seriously, but the voice actor seems to be having fun, and the dialogue is biting – “You spend your days in the decadence of war.” Other visions play out like a stress dream, an alternate version of Order 66 including a dark future for Ahsoka and Katooni, the Padawan most tempted to leave the Jedi Order in the youngling-focused arc, making a sinister appearance....

This installment follows on directly from the previous story with Nute Gunray being the target in the Jedi’s sights. Enter the debut of Kit Fisto, voiced by Phil LaMarr, invoking another of his vocal creations, Hermes from Futurama. His Jamaican lilt takes a bit of getting used to but he’s a likeable character nonetheless. Kit meets up with his former Padawan, Nahdar Vebb, an impish Mon Calamari who is also endearing from the get-go....

And then the pair of you realised you could do it with Stargate? Yeah. Neither one of us really wanted to do the same thing again. We had felt like we had done Stargate, as it was, almost to death....

Steven Universe Season 5 Episode 11 I absolutely adore any series that implies significant events happen off screen. It opens up the imagination for all kinds of adventures that, while the series doesn’t have time to show them, fans will have a field day with. The core of this episode however is Lars realizing Sadie has moved on without him. I wish we hadn’t gotten back to Lars so soon because we barely got to see any of Sadie struggling without him or even Lars struggling without Sadie....

It’s rare for TV detectives to be easy to get along with nowadays. In addition to a tragic backstory, the modern variety tends to come equipped with a personality disorder that lends them a usefully unique perspective on crime. A lack of interpersonal skills is crucial. They rub people up the wrong way, don’t play well with others and shrug off relationships in favour of stalking around dockside warehouses at night speaking Danish....
