In a foreword to a new Batman book, Nolan has written a farewell to the series that’s dominated his life for the best part of a decade. And here it is: People ask if we’d always planned a trilogy. This is like being asked whether you had planned on growing up, getting married, having kids. The answer is complicated. When David and I first started cracking open Bruce’s story, we flirted with what might come after, then backed away, not wanting to look too deep into the future....

However, none of this prepared me for the brilliance that’s contained in their Christmas show, Chuck Versus Santa. If I was asked to identify a weakness in the Chuck show model it’s that usually each story has a parallel track, with a storyline in the Buy More and another in the ‘spy’ world. This story avoids this issue entirely by having only one plot, all set in the Buy More, but with all the main cast members there to create a classic ensemble piece....

When we left him last week he was flush with the re-kindled love for Jill, as presented by the average girl-next-door looking Jordana Brewster. And much of the events here are about them trying to get some privacy to jump-start that relationship. It doesn’t really help that Sarah is obviously jealous, and Casey has a surveillance fixation. Chuck also gets sidelined with a National Treasure-style clue hunt to discover an encrypted list of FULCRUM agents that Jill’s boss hid very well....

Bill Shatner occupies a peculiar space in the pop culture consciousness. Frequently lambasted by his own fanbase for his oft-imitated speech pattern, his hair (or lack thereof), his weight, his bizarre singing style and his proclivity for not turning down any work made available to him (American Psycho 2, anyone?), the man is also revered as a cult legend. It’s easy to ridicule Shatner, but to take the piss in an inventive new way might prove a little tricky....

As avid viewers will be well aware, the guys at Community like movies. They like them a lot. They even, occasionally, make references to some of the movies they like in the show. Last year, everyone’s favourite mafia and horror movies were given a Greendale makeover. This season Community turns its attention to the space/disaster movie. The plot, such as it is, involves a 30-year-old KFC-sponsored flight simulator, a rivalry with City College, and a mildly offensive flag, which our beloved ‘students’ are responsible for....

After a week’s break, we are once again, gratefully, traversing the halls of California’s most questionable educational institution, as Community gives us yet another superb slice of comedy gold. Take that NBC. Starting innocently enough with Jeff’s favourite pastime – bemoaning that anyone other than him is allowed to have fun, particularly when those people happen to be German – before you can say Schadenfreude, all of Winger’s neuroses are explained....

1.9 A Day To Give Thanks It was a long week, but episode 9 of Copper finally arrived to follow up on Corcoran’s shocking discovery of his missing wife, and we can all give thanks that A Day to Give Thanks lived up to the anticipation. The emotion-packed episode was a feat of acting and storytelling, and perhaps the most impressive offering of the series thus far. This episode touched on an interesting point in history: one of the first Thanksgiving holidays....

This review contains spoilers. Before we get into talking about this week’s episode, let’s just take a moment to flail our arms around and squeal because Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has been renewed for a third season. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! The news actually broke last Sunday, after I’d filed my review of When Do I Get To Spend Time With Josh? That episode was filled with references to the show’s ratings struggles, and it all felt a bit like we might be spending our last hours with these characters, so the renewal announcement was kind of brilliantly timed, because it meant we actually didn’t have to spend very long worrying about it....

2.10 & 2.11 Bottom Of The World & Doll Parts Last week was a low point for the season because of the way that the main story arcs appear to be being ignored. But it’s not just that, it’s the way that Nolan realises what a threat the engineered creature inside Irisa is, but crosses his fingers and hopes that she’ll work it out herself. Luckily in these two stories he eventually works out that being an optimist isn’t sufficient to fight Ark-brain tech, and it might ultimately kill everyone on Earth....

3.12 The Awakening Whatever the logic there was plenty in The Awakening for regular viewers of the show to enjoy, as Kindzi went on the rampage with her ravenous Omec children. Being eaten alive is a fear that made Jaws a box office smash, but here it seems to be mostly designed to heighten the tension for those caged for consumption and to demonstrate what messy eaters the Omec are....

Launching a new television series can’t be an easy task. And when that show happens to be in the science fiction genre, you’re adding another tricky proposition into the mix: setting up an entire new world as well as introducing compelling characters and conflicts, all within a 60-to-90 minute package tidy and eye-catching enough to attract a healthy audience. Defiance is an ambitious venture for Syfy, with its launch timed to coincide with a videogame of the same name, which allows players to delve into the show’s post-apocalyptic world for themselves, as events in both series and game cross over to create a sprawling, audience-driven sci-fi saga....

The structure of this picture, which Gudegast also penned himself, is basically the same as that of Mann: a team of elite cops from the Major Crimes Unit of the Sheriff’s department–the Regulators– goes head to head with a crew of criminals who have been pulling off high-tech heists around town for several years. Known as the Outlaws and led by cool-as-dry-ice Merriman (Pablo Schreiber), the robbers use techniques and discipline learned in both military special ops and prison to take down their marks....

The slight resemblance between what happens in this episode and the Disneyfied version of the traditional fairy tale of its title is cursory at best. There is no singing tea cups, wolves in the wood or a magnificent ballroom. Yet, there’s something magical in the air, and for once it’s not tiny droplets of blood launching themselves from a recently opened artery that Dexter just cut. The theme is trust, or rather the lack of it that Dexter seems to instil in people, usually because he’s forced to lie when asked where he’s been and what he’s done....

None of the above, it seems. For Billie Piper has now given an interview to the Radio Times, presumably to advertise the fact that she’s taking her clothes off again for that call girl programme, and has cleared the matter up. Apparently, it was all down to the cold. “”Maybe it was really cold and my lips were tense, because we were shooting in the middle of winter and I’m always in a tiny leather jacket”, Piper mused in the interview....

It’s ironic, really. I get one week of reviewing Doctor Who (Simon’s on holiday), and what do I get to spoil? Absolutely NOTHING. Oh no, no big reveal for John. Oh, and Bill Nighy is a bona fide national treasure, though you probably already knew that. You know what, though? I wouldn’t swap it for the world. After seeing a strange figure at a window within Van Gogh’s painting, The Church At Auvers, while on a tour of the Musee D’orsay in Paris, The Doctor gets his adventuring head on and decides they need to help Vincent....

But as one might expect, this is no ordinary jaunt. Michael leads Alex back to the home we glimpsed in flashback in last week’s episode, “Godspeed.” Once Alex crosses over the threshold of his old home, he is beset by visions of his father, Jeep, trying frantically to decipher the mysterious tattoos. More important than these visions, though, is learning that Alex’s mother died trying to protect him from an onslaught of eight-balls....

When a series starts a new arc, the first few episodes are usually about setting the table and getting characters in position for what’s to come. “A Message From the Future” still fits into that category, but it also marks the end of it. By the episode’s conclusion all of these big players are in the same place and it’s finally time for things to get crazy. Future Trunks may have reunited with Dragon Ball’s heroes in the last episode, but he spends the majority of that homecoming unconscious....

WWE is running its Superstar Shakeup this week, with more roster moves expected on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live. But for Monday night, the biggest acquisition for Raw might have been Ziggler and McIntyre, who was joining the brand from NXT. For now, it seems that Ziggler and McIntyre will be part of Raw‘s tag team division. That’s smart, considering how poorly booked Ziggler was on SmackDown and McIntyre has been away from the ring for eight months and might need to be able to ease himself back into a full-time schedule....

It’s unfortunate though that, despite being my favourite Bond actor to date, it’s Roger Moore who has racked up the most misguided films of the franchise. For Your Eyes Only is average at best and Octopussy is largely a dull affair. By then of course, Moore was also beginning to age quite badly, and the result was that several of the action scenes looked rather silly indeed. Then there’s A View To A Kill....

“That show means the world to me, man. It was the first thing I ever did, the first role I ever played, first job I ever got. It’ll always be super special to me. The success that it ended up having is amazing and we could have never predicted that from the eight-day pilot presentation that we shot, we would get all the way to 100 episodes. It’ll always be one of the things I’m most proud of, absolutely....
