4.21 The Drumhead Sabotage! On board the Enterprise! D! Cue up the Beastie Boys! (Actually don’t, we’ve all seen Star Trek Beyond and the last thing we need is that being taken literally again.) But regardless, a Klingon Exchange officer – J’Dan the Exobiologist – stands (well, sits) accused of trying to blow up the Enterprise’s engines and funnelling secrets to the Romulans. In an attempt to establish his innocence he tries to bribe Worf, who gives him the full Space Rodney King treatment in a scene which I can’t decide if I’m supposed to feel uncomfortable with or not....

2.18 A Night To Remember Well, that was a perfect episode of television. When I first heard that Riverdale would be doing an episode based on the ill-fated Carrie: The Musical (of which you can read much more about here) my first reaction was ‘oh hell yes.’ But then after the initial excitement wore off I wondered how the staging of this musical would interrupt the usual storytelling, especially with the end of the season in sight....

This review contains spoilers. Tell me where else on television you’re going to hear somebody say, “I’ve certainly got a lot of experience controlling sticks with my thumbs”? That’s why you have to love Robot Wars; there’s nothing else quite like it (unless you count BattleBots, which is quite like it but is also American and therefore twice as noisy with half the charm). Congratulations this week go to winners Concussion, who did Dorset proud by taking their battle-untested bot all the way to victory in the final....

The arrival of Chibi-Usa, the Black Moon Clan, and the mysterious Sailor Pluto make for some crazy time travel shenanigans, while the abduction of Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter for roughly half the arc really streamlines the main cast, allowing focus on Usagi and Mamoru’s deepening relationship as well as the effect Chibi-Usa’s presence has on it. This cast thinning also allows for some long overdue attention for Venus, a latecomer in Season 1 who up until this point hadn’t gotten much screen time....

After last year saw Into The Storm bring back some Twister style antics to the big screen, so San Andreas plays out like a combination of 1974’s Earthquake and the Dennis Quaid’s fight against a slight chill in The Day After Tomorrow (minus the ropey CGI wolves). The central plot follows the simple quest for Johnson’s rescue pilot to retrieve his daughter and estranged wife from the tectonic terror, with occasional cutaways to Paul Giamatti’s earthquake expert who keeps us informed of exactly how bad things are about to get (he predicted this would happen, but like all B-movie scientists no one would listen)....

Scream Season 2 Episode 4 When Eli tricked Emma into thinking Kieran wanted a huge surprise party for his birthday, she went out of her way to make it happen. What they thought would include drunk teenagers and a happy Kieran ended up being a huge disaster. After a note from “Jake” showed up attached to a bottle of tequila as a birthday gift for Kieran, the partygoers eventually realized that the tequila was not quite what they thought....

50 Shades of Brooke Brooke impressed me with her sleuth skills as she dug deep into Jake’s murder. Who knew how much she really did care for Jake? Who knew it was possible for anyone to care that much? But, she is resolute in finding out the truth and whether or not Branson was the one to really kill him. After enlisting Stavo’s help to snoop around his father’s office for any clues, it is discovered that Ms....

Scream Season 2, Episde 7 Audrey is feeling all kinds of guilt, whether it is about bringing Piper to town or lying about it to her closest friends. While Noah urges Audrey to come clean to Emma, she refuses. So, Audrey’s secret stays between her and Noah … for at least half of the episode. Zoey plans a fun date for her and Noah where we see how much she likes Noah and how jealous she is of Audrey....

The opening episodes of Sons Of Anarchy season 3 haven’t been directionless, but they certainly have been juggling several large plot arcs at the same time. Thankfully, episode three, Home, compacts the plots and, with some old faces and new ones, gives us a more streamlined end result. Still keeping up? Well, let’s start from the top. Tara is currently with Gemma, at her father, Nate’s house. The episode starts with Amelia taped to a wheelchair in Nate’s basement....

6.4 Wolfsangel Now, I’ve long suspected that the endgame for Samcro was going to involve the neo-nazis from season two. In particular AJ Weston, played brilliantly and disturbingly well by Henry Rollins, had a son whom he instructed to follow in his footsteps right before Jax killed him. This would tie in nicely to the theme of fathers and sons that has been so central to the show since its first episode....

6.7 Sweet and Vaded America is similarly idealised as the land of endless opportunity where, despite class differences, anyone who is willing to work hard can overcome obstacles and become a success. This beautiful ideal is played up so much in Hollywood and US programming that it’s almost accepted as a cultural fact over here. However, class mobility does not occur with anything close to this sort of frequency in America and this noble ideal is more often than not just a myth....

They have fought with Comedy Central over issues of censorship, they have cursed more times in a half hour than any show in history and they have used satire to (figuratively) spit in the face of those who hold their heads up a little too high. But probably least egregiously, they make their episodes mere days, sometimes cutting it within hours, before it is set to air. South Park usually struggles to follow up its landmark episodes, and two weeks ago I thought they hit big with “World War Zimmerman....

Not crumbling to even the greatest of pressure, both Harry and Ruth return to the Grid, really establishing the status quo for the season. It shows that the team have to be even more resolute and tough in their outlook as it seems that the uranium plot and proposed dirty bomb are just one of the many testing trials ahead, as no sooner are the team re-united when an ‘accident’ at Western Sands power plant have them once more springing into action....

I have, over the past few weeks, moaned a little that things in this series have not had the impact of previous seasons and that the episodes have not had the consistent feel to them. Instead, there’s been a a splintered and fractured feel to the overall storytelling, and the little hints here and there about Lucas’ past and the enigmatic Vaughn were not enough to sate the episodic nature of the series....

He plays Vin MacKenna, an alcoholic gambler who lives alone with his cat, Felix, and regularly meets with a pregnant Russian sex worker named Daka (Naomi Watts). He is about as far from saintliness as a person can be, when he meets his new neighbours- young Oliver (newcomer Jaeden Lieberher) and his recently divorced mother Maggie (Melissa McCarthy). It’s not the most unpredictable film of the year, but there’s something to be said for reliable delivery and St Vincent does manage to exceed expectations, even if it doesn’t subvert them....

Filmed with high resolution digital cameras on authentic looking replica sets, Star Trek: Phase II (previously known as New Voyages) takes over where the original Star Trek ended – co-opting the name that Gene Roddenbury chose for his failed attempt to revive the original series on the small screen. Playing out the archetypal fan fantasy, a plucky bunch of Trek-nerds recast themselves as their Sci-Fi heroes, facing the same jeopardy, saying the same lines, wearing the same velour jerseys and ill-fitting trousers as the original Kirk, Spock and McCoy....

After last week’s Storm Over Ryloth, comes the second part of the mini story arc and a much improved story we get too. The Jedi are finally able to descend on Ryloth to help out the Twi’leks (Jabba’s sexy dancer – no, not that one, the other one – was a Twi’lek) who have been subjugated by Wat Tambor and his Battle Droid chums but it’s not going to be easy what with all the flippin’ guns shooting at them....

Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Episode 8 It would have been hard for Rebels to top “Kindred” in terms of game-changing revelations and answered questions, so “Crawler Commanders” doesn’t really try. Instead, Hera gives a heroic speech on Yavin 4 and the rest of the team capture a smoke-spewing mining machine. The Lothal segment is classic Rebels, mostly episodic except for a cute appearance by Ezra’s old smuggler friend Vizago. The plan is a bit muddled at first — the Empire is wrecking the planet, but the machine is run by the Mining Guild....

Oh dear. It looks like the highs of Supernatural‘s fourth episode The End have not yet been matched. Episode seven’s title, The Curious Case Of Dean Winchester might sound familiar and that’s because it is. F.Scott Fitzgerald may have dreamed of critical acclaim when he penned the story of Benjamin Button in Tales Of The Jazz Age, but I’ll wager he never imagined a re-write starring two demon battling brothers....

3.4 Unleashed Those are the kind of short-hand signifiers needed by a show that is so visual. Once again, Tim Andrew is in the director’s chair, and once again we get a pretty cool episode. Teen Wolf has defined its look, leaning heavily on the eighties music videos, and it’s a look that really works. It covers the seams of the special effects, be they digital or real, and it increases the drama of an already pretty dramatic show....
