The Shannara Chronicles Episode 3 Review Fury

1.3 Fury Having said that, things don’t get off to the most promising of starts. If elf princess Amberle was last week’s ‘being in the buff for no real reason’ victim, the opening ten minutes of Fury marked Wil’s (Austin Butler) turn to be ruthlessly ogled. Whilst there’s no room to be prudish in 2016 and gratuitous nudity is, for better or worse, commonplace in fantasy television nowadays, the real problem here is not only the awkward execution of the scenes themselves but that The Shannara Chronicles has yet to properly explore the personalities of these central characters....

The Simpsons Season 29 Episode 5 Review Grampy Can Ya Hear Me

The Simpsons: Season 29 Episode 5 The Simpsons season 29, episode 5, “Grampy Can Ya Hear Me,” turns up the volume on Abe Simpson just as he runs out of things to ramble incoherently about. Grampa Simpson’s hearing problems have been a running gag since The Simpsons earliest episodes, but you didn’t hear that from me. His chronic audio impairment is his most endearing characteristic, after his erratic memory loss and unforgettably endless reminiscences....

The Simpsons Season Finale Review Orange Is The New Yellow

The Simpsons: Season 27 Episode 22. What a different world this is than the one The Simpsons began in, when the streets of Springfield were littered with unsupervised kids. Happy times when El Barto ran amok, or skateboarded amok. Now he can’t even walk amok without catching the eye of some disapproving mom who, luckily, overreacts and America’s most representational mom goes to jail. This isn’t the first time Marge has been incarcerated....

The Tomorrow People A Sort Of Homecoming Review

Once again, a character has gone missing for a few episodes. Like Cassie (the Founder’s daughter, who met her tragic end with a deflected bullet), Morgan has vanished after Jed learned from John that she is carrying Jed’s child. This news was NOT well received, but even with the truce, will Morgan come out of hiding as Jed becomes more and more unhinged? What is his role in Ultra now that he’s gone into hiding and the Founder has taken over?...

The Top 5 Moments From The First Season Of Stargate Universe

SGU has given us emotionally devastating scenes, brilliantly executed fights and some mind-bending endings, so this list was hard to come up with. But here goes… 5.Incursion Part 2 Chloe and Eli dance around the fact that he loves her Although it’s never explicitly said at any point throughout the series, it’s clear right from the start that Eli Wallace is head over heals in love with Chloe Armstrong. Whether it’s just clear to the audience, or whether she knows it too is uncertain at first, but for those of you who thought that she might have known all along, you may have been right....

The Vampire Diaries Fade Into You Review

Because of this, I dropped the show like the proverbial cock-tease it was: I still scowl when I inadvertently come across commercials for it and the like. What does this have to do with TVD? I’m so glad you asked. Up until right about now, I’ve been quietly impressed with how they’ve managed to grow the relationship between Stefan and Caroline. It’s felt real and sustained and juicy and great....

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 3 Review Welcome To Paradise

6.3 Welcome To Paradise Splitting them up, then, has been the best and most refreshing part of season six so far. Damon might still be half-pining after Elena, but regardless, the three of them have finally become characters in their own right again. They have wants and needs that don’t directly relate back to each other, and even some new emerging love stories that could be much more interesting than the so-called mission statement the show started with....

The Walking Dead Prey Review

Tonight’s story starts with a sweet little flash back of Michonne and Andrea in happier times, back when they were alone in the woods. As they sit around what I would consider to be an ill advised camp fire, Andrea asks Michonne about the two zombies that she keeps as pets. It is pretty clear that Michonne knew them in life, but she doesn’t want to talk about where they came from....

The Walking Dead Inmates Review

Well, with most female viewers and 89% of male viewers (we conducted a survey, just trust us) spending the last episode of Walking Dead screaming, “Ok, great Carl’s eating pudding, but where is Daryl!” at the television, this week’s episode, “Inmates,” should assuage some fears as we don’t have to go Dixon-less any longer. Daryl is back and paired up with Beth as The Walking Dead catches viewers up on the rest of the survivors post-prison....

The Walking Dead The Grove Review

Holy Jesus Christ in a cardigan sweater, Lizzie is freakin’ insane. How do you react to that? How do you make sense of the senseless as The Walking Dead takes things one step further? Remember when zombies were a dirty little genre secret? The Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 9 Review After

4.9 After Those are the three characters who are featured in this week’s The Walking Dead, aside from some severed head cameos. Carl, Rick (who is practically dead), and Michonne, and the three spend most of the episode apart from one another. That means there’s a lot of talking to no one in particular, some surprisingly interesting flashback stuff, ranting at someone who may be dead or in a coma, and other fun stuff to give characters a reason to talk in an episode that could very feature almost no talking....

The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 8 Review Coda

5.8 Coda However, while the characters have transmogrified, there’s a core aspect of their personality that shines through, just in a different way. Carol is strength personified. Beth is hope and innocence. Since she tried to end her life in the second season, she’s grown stronger, but never lost that little spark of hope that made the world impossible for her to face until she realised how much everyone else needed to have her around to sing Tom Waits to the baby and generally keep the survivors from becoming an antidepressant commercial smeared in filth....

Tim And Eric S Bedtime Stories The Bathroom Boys Review

This episode marks an exciting moment for Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories in that we see them returning to the same characters and sitcom structure from their “Just 3 Boyz” short from Funny or Die Presents, bringing Zach Galiafianakis along with them. It’s fascinating, and a smart idea to see this show act as a conduit to continue underdeveloped characters or ideas they’ve played with in the past. I know I probably wouldn’t be the only one wanting to see a full “It’s Gert!...

Timeless The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln Review

Timeless Season 1, Episode 2 It’s a relief to see that Timeless will not be erasing people from the timeline each week. As with the Lincoln assassination in this week’s episode, viewers can likely expect history to play out close enough to its original path to avoid having a discernible effect on other members of the team. Meanwhile, Lucy’s unknown fiance, the details of her parentage, and the desire to bring back her missing sister are the perfect spice to add to the base provided by another historical time period in which Flynn reveals more about why he has set this conflict in motion....

Torchwood Season 2 Episode 11 Review

Hang the bunting! Dance a bit! The miraculous has happened, with Torchwood creating its own storyline. And it’s not that bad a one at that. Jack has been keeping a secret location in the Bristol channel for people that the rift hath – sorry, has – taken away and returned in a not-quite-mentally-all-there state. Gwen discovers this after one 15-year-old boy goes missing. Quite why the police liaison officer didn’t notice that the scores of people going AWOL might be connected to her big sci-fi secret would be a pertinent point, had we not previously established that Gwen isn’t the sharpest leek in the box....

True Blood Season 1 Episode 6 Review

Halfway through our first stay in Bon Temps, and events have taken a decidedly downbeat turn. After last week’s fun and games with Priapism, Cold Ground is in stark contrast, focusing on the aftermath of Grandma Stackhouse’s murder and the general state of depression most of the characters find themselves in, but manages to be far more interesting than it sounds. After ignoring the calls from Sam, Jason showed up at work still high from the V, and it was up to Hoyt and Rene to break the bad news....

Turn Eternity How Long Review

The story begins with the Woodhull family—Judge Richard Woodhull (Kevin McNally), his son Abe (Jamie Bell) and daughter-in-law Mary (Meegan Warner), and his grandson Thomas—gathered in the burying-ground to memorialize the judge’s elder son, killed fighting as a British soldier. Mary says that the Woodhulls’ strength as a family was what reconciled her to an arranged marriage. This sounds somewhat odd since in the 1700s a family of only four would have seemed tragically small....

Unmade Poltergeist Prequel Would Have Featured Reverend Kane

In Poltergeist II, directed by Brian Gibson, Reverend Kane was a doomsday cult leader in the early 19th century who promised to save his followers from the end of the world by hiding them in an underground cavern below what later be the Freeling familys’ property. But Kane was really feeding them the Kool-Aid of repentance who wanted to soak up their souls in order to develop supernatural powers. According to an interview Poltergeist 3: The Website, Kane was on his way to achieving the iconic horror status of Freddy Krueger or Mike Meyers by becoming the beast....
