Myself and the writers worked on the script for 8 months to get it to an area where we were all very happy with it. So the comedy was played up to leaven the horror?...
Krypton Episode 5 Parents and children, amirite? Krypton doubles down on the theme of what parents will and won’t do for their children, and how that affects those children long after they’ve grown into adulthood. In other words: most of these characters have serious daddy and/or mommy issues. To us, it may seem like an easy choice. Kandor City sucks, as does the Voice of Rao (suspiciously absent here following getting tagged by that Brainiac parasite at the end of last week’s episode), but most of us weren’t raised like Jayna....
What’s interesting about animation studio Laika, however, is that it doesn’t stick slavishly to the traditions of stop motion filmmaking. In movies like Coraline, Paranorman and Box Trolls, it’s continually used cutting-edge technology like 3D printing and, yes, CGI to bring its stories to life. This is particularly true in Kubo And The Two Strings, an effervescent action fantasy which reads like an unexpectedly eccentric fusion of Alice In Wonderland and Japanese chanbara movie....
With a body count of 6, Charles Widmore’s mercenary team who arrived on the increasingly poorly-named “rescue boat” are proving to be a credible threat. So far they’ve killed that crazy French girl Rousseau, brainwashing-victim Carl, 3 nameless people from Locke’s camp and Ben’s daughter Alex. Anyone could be next – though more realistically, now that the cannon fodder is out of the way, it’s more likely that no-one will be next....
First and foremost, I have to agree with the numerous other reviews, comments, etc. that I’ve read in stating that Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson are beyond compelling as Locke and Linus. However, with all of that aside, I should now return to the Matthew Fox bashing…(Only Joking) Well, sort of. I’ll admit that I didn’t enjoy the two and a half minute scene with Jack and Locke in the hospital....
7.2 A Day’s Work Of course, in true Mad Men fashion episode 1 left us with no idea whether that was the case, with Don’s kids barely warranting a mention. It’s with some surprise, then, that episode 2 brings that plot to the fore. Don’t we normally have to wait longer for answers to the big questions? (Not that I’m complaining!) We could probably have guessed how it’d go. Relationships don’t change overnight on Mad Men, and when Don and Sally finally meet, they’re almost immediately thrown back into old patterns: Don lying to Sally, Sally lying to Don, both of them catching the other out but staying quiet about it....
Mia Wasikowska plays Agatha, the young, wraith-like waypoint into a demented vision of upper-crust Los Angeles. Stepping off an overnight bus into the Californian sunshine, she’s in town to help Carrie Fisher (yes, that Carrie Fisher) with her latest novel, but really, her arrival has more to do with a disconnected group of people who all have three things in common: fame, extraordinary wealth, and an assorted selection of neuroses....
4.16 What If… Well, we’re back, and it’s a very strange time in the history of Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD. On one hand, the series has never been stronger. Perhaps the best episode to date aired before the hiatus (and can we please stop with the freakin’ gaps between episodes, it’s almost as absurd as having Roman Reigns be the guy to retire Undertaker and yes, I’m still bitter). I mean, in the cliffhanger at the end of the last episode, we saw our agents enter the Matrix-like world of Doctor Radcliffe’s Framework....
4.21 The Return And things seemed so hopeful. Now that SHIELD has escaped the Framework (all but poor Mack), you’d think there would be a second to breathe. Oh hell no, things are more intense than ever.. Oh, not so fast. Fitz made a profound realisation tonight that should leave a long-time SHIELD fan breathless. Within the Framework, he was essentially the same as Grant Ward, and with just a few wrong turns in his real world life, he could have been Ward....
Mayans M.C. Episode 2 Episode two of Mayans starts off with a bang, taking one tiny prisoner. Keeping the action going from last week’s season premiere, the Purge inspired child soldiers of the rebel faction have an axe to grind with Miguel Galindo. Since the cartel destroyed their families and made them orphans, why not make Galindo choke on his own medicine? The rebels kidnap his son, right out of the arms of his wife, Emily (EZ’s ex-girlfriend)....
The Death Cure brings its own baggage to the table, of crouse, finally reaching our screens a full year later than planned due to a serious on-set accident that led to star Dylan O’Brien being hospitalised. As was the case in the previous installment, The Scorch Trials, the women are the highlight. Now revealed to be working both sides, Scodelario offers a merciful note of nuance (Aiden Gillen’s on the other end of this scale as Janson) to proceedings, her character never wavering from what we know to be her central motivations....
3.10 Queen Of Hearts Finally, some much needed progress in the development of the relationship between Arthur and Gwen, two characters who’ve danced around one another over the last three years without either actually doing anything about it. This week sees the two finally admit their feelings for each other, and they’ve Morgana to thank for it. Of course, Morgana, being a seer and privy to events that have not yet happened, consults Morgause after dreaming that Gwen will one day rule as queen by Arthur’s side....
3.12 The Coming Of Arthur Part 1 Sir Leon returns to Camelot and tells Uther that the Cup is still in existence. A panic-stricken Uther sends Arthur and Merlin to retrieve it. If a weapon like it was to fall into the wrong hands “Camelot would be all but lost.” Morgana learns of their plans and talks to Morgause, who decides to ally herself once more with Cenred and use his resources and manpower to get it by whatever means necessary....
4.11 The Sword In The Stone Part 1 Arthur is waiting for his clothing, worried that he won’t look particularly regal if he goes out in just his undergarments. Merlin, on the other hand, is concerned that the King may have trouble making his belt fit, and is gamely trying to skewer another hole into it before the King goes to host the latest banquet. As Arthur entertains guests whilst wallowing in Gwen’s absence, Agravaine and Helios storm Camelot and bring Morgana into the castle, ready to take her seat on the throne....
You have to hand it to Misfits, they never do anything by halves. The dawdling first half is the sort of greatest hits episode that has been seen many, many times before. With the body-count having upped its number considerably even in the last couple of weeks, it was only a matter of time before Misfits got its hands on a ghost story, with a slightly seasonal ‘ghost of probation workers past’ paying a visit to the ASBO five....
Mahal still had his shining moment on this show, however. Kevin Owens came out and he was not happy with this list. Rightfully, even as a heel, pointing out that he technically won his match at Backlash while Styles, Ziggler and Corbin all lost. Shane, I guess pleased with what Owens had to say, added him as a sixth man to the Money in the Bank match. Building to Money in the Bank was necessary, but building up the new champion was as well....
With Skyfall, the actress once again finds herself in an admirable role in what is surely the most anticipated Bond movie of the past few years – coming as it does not only after a lengthy pause since 2008’s Quantum Of Solace, but also timed to coincide with 007’s 50th anniversary on the big screen. We sat with Naomie Harris for a lively round-table discussion about her role in the film, keeping the unusually secretive script under wraps, and her difficult performance in Justin Chadwick’s forthcoming biopic, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom....
This story’s set in the summer of 1962, with hours old newlyweds Florence (Saoirse Ronan) and Edward (Billy Howle) settling into their seaside honeymoon hotel suite. Preparing to spend their first night together as man and wife, the nervous couple awkwardly consume watered down wine, a traditional meat and two veg plus a melon slice topped with the obligatory glacé cherry impaled on a cocktail stick. Throughout the textbook exchanges of conversational pleasantries over dinner, the impending act of physical intimacy hangs over the couple with strained palpability....
And beg she does. Season 2 starts with Piper being dragged out of the SHU in the middle of the night, bundled onto a bus, then a plane, and flown to Chicago without anyone telling her where she is going, why, or for how long. She doesn’t even know if Pennsatucky survived her beat down (she did), and has spent the last month in solitary wracked with guilt and convinced that she had beat the meth head to death....
By now, though, the naturally pared-back approach to supernatural horror that has been the series’ stock in trade since the first Paranormal Activity is well established. Cameras are set up around a middle class family’s home, and various low-key yet ominous things occur in front of the lenses. Here lives 15-year-old Alice (Kathryn Newton), her parents, who appear to be hovering on the brink of divorce, and her little mop-haired brother Wyatt (Aiden Lovekamp)....
