Technically, Madefire doesn’t make comic books. They make “motion books” for tablets and smartphones (although currently only available on iOS devices). Launched in June of 2012, the Madefire app is a new way to experience graphic storytelling. Sure, digital comics aren’t precisely new, but the medium is still finding its place, not just in the marketplace, but in the way creators approach it and in the hearts of fans. Madefire may just be the company that changes that last part....

Marvel’s Runaways Season 1, Episode 10 They finally did it! They ran away! It only took 10 episodes and an entire season to get there. I’m glad Hulu renewed this show for a second season because, for everything that has happened so far, it feels like it is just getting started. The teens. “Hostile,” the season finale, picks up where the penultimate episode left off: with the teens facing off against their parents at the dig site that could spell the end of the world as we know it....

To do this, she infiltrates the castle as a servant from another Kingdom come to celebrate a union with an exchange of gifts. There’s no real back-story here as such: Camelot wears red, they wear blue, it’s a 3.30 kick-off and each bench looks relatively injury-free. Uther’s reaction to this is to make Merlin drink from it – as if that made any sense. If you could predict so brilliantly how people might react in any given situation, then Nimueh’s plan would entirely work – though the story goes on to prove that it doesn’t!...

5.5 The Disir Three soothsayers, the Disir, declare the judgement of the Old Gods on Arthur and Camelot, despatching Osgar, a druid warrior, to deliver their message and bring a return to the old ways. If Arthur doesn’t agree to their judgement, Camelot will lay in ruins and Arthur will lose all that he holds dear. Unaware of what is happening, the King is taking the opportunity to sharpen his sword skills....

Michael Ansara played Commander Kang on three versions of Star Trek. He originated the role in the “Day of the Dove” episode in 1968 (“we have no devil, Kirk”). He reprised the role on the Deep Space Nine episode “Blood Oath” in 1994 and the Voyager episode “Flashback” from 1996. Ansara is also known for his role as the Native American Cochise on the ABC series Broken Arrow and the Apache Deputy U....

Jon Hamm plays sports agent J.B. Bernstein, a playboy whose go-it-alone business is losing out to wealthy Goliath, Pro Corp, and in dire need of a big signing. After a night of channel flipping between Britain’s Got Talent and a cricket match, Bernstein has it: India’s his answer. And so 2008’s Indian baseball pitching talent TV show Million Dollar Arm was born. Do they make it as pro-pitchers? If you followed the story at the time then you’ll already know....

No Ordinary Quake I’ve mentioned some of the issues with the stories, but I’m beginning to wonder if the whole premise of the show is just too light to carry a modern audience? Deep down this is a seventies TV notion, propped up with modern effects, sadly. With that in mind, I approached No Ordinary Earthquake to discover that they’d finally decided to ditch the JJ subplot where he won’t admit to his parents that he had a power....

The first guest was Count Arthur Strong. Whilst his act may have been met with an overwhelming confusion, it was genius. Utter, utter genius. Look this man up. I did have one problem with the event. They lure you in with the promise of Noel Fielding and of a charitable cause, get you sat down and then they force feed you an acoustic set from Razorlight. Whilst it seemed to go down well with the majority of the audience, Razorlight really aren’t for me and I could have done without it....

There’s clearly hard work behind Not Going Out. It never seems to rely on one of its actors filling in gaps in the script with a bit of over the top performing, nor does it attempt to do things it can’t realistically do. Instead, the show works once more as it always has: with a good, witty script as the foundation of it. Furthermore, it’s a script that’s got the willingness to invest time in a gag early on, knowing the pay-off may yet be 20 minutes away as it does so....

This modern Sarah, though, has a moral compass and teaches Kira a bit of right and wrong, and that cons are immoral unless one is on the run from either super secret religious killers or science cults. On the road with Kira, Sarah appears to be happy for the first time. It’s as if these moments are a reward for what Sarah endured in the first season. On the road, Sarah is discovering it’s hard to be a mom, but super mom clone Alison must vacuum while fending off the clumsy sexual advances of her just about estranged husband Donnie....

Orphan Black Season 5 Episode 3 To balance out last week’s Sarah-centric episode with heavy dashes of Helena and Cosima, this week was all about Alison. And a little bit about Donnie and his highland dancing. After Sarah and her crew moved heaven and earth in the last episode to get Kira out of Rachel’s clutches, MK’s death triggered a desire to figure out who and what she is, and Kira believes Rachel is the only one who knows how to do that....

And so, The Marked Ones serves as the series’ first offering of 2014, with Paranormal Activity 5 to follow on its traditional Halloween-ish release date. The filmmakers have described the spin-off as a “cousin” to the series’ main storyline, set within the same universe. When their reclusive downstairs neighbour is murdered, seemingly by their class valedictorian, Oscar (Carlos Pratts), they begin a tentative investigation. What they discover is a world of demons, cult worship, and a curse that seems to have been passed onto Jesse, causing drastic changes in his physical capabilities and his personality....

The sensational twist at the end of Peaky Blinders’ last series left writer Steven Knight with a problem: having blasted them apart, how could he reunite the Shelby family? After six months inside and a noose around each of their necks—all part of the boss’ plan to shake them loose of the Economic League’s grip—would Arthur, John, Polly and Michael ever forgive Tommy? For John Shelby, sadly, it means the latter....

My process for picking films from this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival is as follows: – Forget the workshops, talks, and shorts. I feel this one too may seem harsh to some, as the shorts are usually by directors whose films you will see featured in years to come. There really is no offence intended, as I do like shorts, and if I have the spare time I will check them out in the basement viewing library....

4.20 Free Fall Smart Pretty Little Liars fans, by now, have developed a limbo state of anxiety about the direction of the show, with absolutely any outcome now just another plot development and not cause for ranting, throwing things or, conversely, celebration. The minute Ezra entered that lair in his cap and jacket, slamming the wardrobe door in apparent psychopathic rage, there was scepticism about what the real story would be, and whether the writers would ‘pull a Toby’ as it is now universally called....

6.11 Of Late I Think Of Rosewood Pretty Little Liars is finally back, and five years have passed in Liar time since we last visited Rosewood. Smartly avoiding the college slump that has scuppered many a teen drama in the past, it’s 2017 and we’re jumping straight back into the mystery. Everything feels strangely familiar, yet nothing is the same. There’s still a bucket-load of mystery, shiny hair and complicated loyalties, but there’s also a departure from those things we might all have expected this episode to focus on....

7.11 Playtime Because while a lot of people were let down by the Charlotte reveal a season ago (it feels longer, doesn’t it?) we cannot disregard all of the wonderful things the show has done. The Mona reveal was one of them, and the commitment to character over mystery another. For me, it doesn’t matter who A.D. turns out to be, because that boardgame and what it might do to the Liars is so darn intriguing....

Henson (Hidden Figures, Empire) stars as Mary, a hitwoman who finds herself caring for Danny (newcomer Jahi Di’Allo Winston), a young boy with a connection to her past, which puts her at odds with her adoptive crime family as her steps to protect the boy threatens to plunge Boston into an all-out gang war. It’s a credit to the writing that Mary’s love life is only relevant to the story insofar as it complicates her ability to achieve her goals....

This review contains spoilers. At the end of last week’s episode “Mechocracy”, Lister told Cat that you can’t help getting older, but you can help getting old. It’s something he might have wanted to keep in mind in this week’s episode, “M-Corp”, in which he has an unfortunate brush with terrifying outer space capitalism on his birthday. At the turn of another year – not his 30th, not his 40th, but somewhere beyond that – Lister suffers a heart scare that turns out to be chronic indigestion....

And the Who must be kicking itself that it’s happened. 42 was probably the best-looking, most sumptuous and visually saturated episode they’ve ever made, by a country mile. The plot also wasn’t a million miles from the later, ropier section of Sunshine, with a psychopath picking off the crew to steer the ship into/away from the sun (delete as appropriate). But this is the really surprising bit – Doctor Who was the one with the atmosphere....
