If there’s a connecting thread between Warcraft and Jones’ earlier movies, it’s in its effervescent tone and clear affection for genre movies of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Where Moon lovingly referenced Silent Running or Outland, Warcraft appears to take its cue not from the blood-and-thunder fantasy of the trendy Game Of Thrones, but old-school fare like Beastmaster, Legend and the movies of Ray Harryhausen. Over in the Kingdom of Stormwind, King Llane (an ermine-clad Dominic Cooper) learns that his garrisons are falling one by one to a new enemy, and dispatches Commander Lothar (Travis Fimmel), a young magician, Khadgar (Ben Schnetzer) and a powerful Guardian, Medivh (Ben Foster) to investigate....

Denys Cowan has been drawing comics for longer than I’ve been alive, and he’s been one of the greats for nearly that long, picking up Eisner nominations in 1988 and 89 for his work on The Question (and let’s take a moment to praise DC’s trade program, which had this back in print recently, because it too is excellent). He’s also a co-founder of Milestone, and co-creator of Hardware and Henri Ducard, so he gets undying loyalty for those....

Jason Statham’s antics are documented in fervent detail across the pages of this very site, Jason Flemyng’s generally displeased fizzog has had a tendency to pop up in supporting roles in just about every Hollywood title released since the invention of the moving image, while Nick Moran has been no less prolific if, Harry Potter aside, a little less ‘not him again!’ noticeable. Charlie Creed-Miles plays the titular Raucous William, an ex-drug dealer and ne’er-do-well who emerges bleary-eyed from eight long years at the whim of Her Majesty and our Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II....

Will and Grace Season 9 Episode 3 In “Emergency Contact,” Grace headed to her annual gynecologist’s checkup only to discover she might have a life changing disease. In another part of town, Tasha, a young girl in an afterschool program needs assistance during a pivotal moment in her life. The connective tissue between both characters is the sometimes mean-spirited Karen. There was no rest for the weary, Grace or Leo, and they tore into each other about their failed marriage rather than waiting on cancer results in peace....

In the match, Paige took an awkward dropkick from Sasha Banks and reportedly suffered a stinger. However, WWE doctors informed her this past Monday at WWE’s Monday Night Raw television taping that she would not be medically cleared for an in-ring return. PWInsider compared the situation to that of Edge, who was also forced to retire as an active wrestler due to a neck injury. It remains to be seen how much time is left on her WWE contract....

But you know, now I’ve admitted it. I never saw “The Postman,” until last night that is. I moved into a house about six months ago that has cable. It is the first time I’ve had cable in maybe twenty years. Amazing. As in just the existence of it I find amazing. Then I was sitting at the bar in a Chinese restaurant early on a Sunday and the guy next to me explained what that big “OnDemand” button does on my remote control....

With all ten episodes of 12 Monkeys season 3 set to air this weekend, anticipation is high for an epic, movie-like experience. “I’m really proud of season three,” Matalas told us between takes. “In season three, I wanted to get to this point with our characters where we just explore new aspects to all of them and new dynamics. You have to tell your story. The story should get better as it goes....

On the significant upside? 22 Jump Street delivers an awful lot of those laughs. Even more, perhaps, than last time. Not before we get a very, very funny opening blast though, that firmly establishes the rules of this particular sequel, and lays out pretty much what you’re going to get for the next two hours. Brilliantly so, in fact. It’s the same as last time, we’re told. It’s just going to be a lot more expensive....

24 Season 8 8:00-9:00am Although Jack’s speedy take down of Samir and his men looked, for all intents and purposes last week, as final, it turns out that Samir wasn’t actually killed, and was to be returned to CTU medical for aid and eventual interrogation. At least, that was the plan until an unknown and dodgy EMT injected Samir with something, presumably to stop him talking. Renee spots him leaving, and notices something wrong, but doesn’t act on it....

Back in 1995 when Alec Baldwin was busy being voted no. 80 in Empire magazine’s top 100 Sexiest Stars in film history, and Tina Fey busy wearing a questionable waistcoat in a Mutual Savings Bank advert, Phoebe Buffay was in Central Perk putting forth a theory on soul-mates and lobsters that coined the phrase “He’s her lobster” for a generation. This series opener is all about sacrifice. Is Liz willing to give up her prized autonomy in order to take the next step with pilot Carol?...

At 30 Rock this week, love and marriage were going together less like a horse and carriage and more like a horse and another really pissed off horse. Following their blissful (if disorganised) nuptials on the fictional Caribbean island of L’Esclavage, newlyweds Mr and Mrs Donaghy were back in NY and straight into a war of the roses style battle of bartering, sabotage and revenge. Not usually one for heavy handed ‘life lessons’ episodes, 30 Rock had two important pieces of advice for viewers this week....

Likewise, anyone looking to write off A Million Ways To Die In The West shouldn’t rush into judgement. It’s crude, a little too long, and suffers simply by being a comedy western in a world graced by Blazing Saddles and City Slickers. Pretty well, as it happens. Strip away all the 80s movie references, and Ted was really a comedy built on the incongruity of foul-mouthed, Boston-accented rants emanating from a cute teddy bear....

The plot is pretty thin. In fact, it’s barely there. It’s the characterization that saves the show. The rebel attack was the first time new Agents Skye, Fitz, and Simmons saw combat, and their adrenalin-fueled adverse reaction to the near-death experience makes the three new Agents human. Agents Ward and May are the veterans. How they react to unseasoned warriors in the field defines their points of view. May in particular was utilized with great effect this week....

Let’s start with the big question: have you seen any of The Expendables, Inception, Scott Pilgrim, The Social Network or Machete? I think the lovely wildcard they may have put in is Jason Statham. He’s the modern touch, the only contemporary action star who hasn’t forgotten the 80s existed. Of course. I like the fact that Jet Li’s in there as well. Stone Cold Steve Austin. You’d be hard-pushed to find a better cast to celebrate the bygone era of the 80s....

After taking a second to catch my breath and immortalise the iconic London skyline with a half-arsed smartphone photo, I said my awkward hellos, stashed my belongings in a cloakroom and made my way into the event. As promised, bubbly was flowing and tiny nibbles were being circulated. Staff carried snacks atop rectangular glass cases, which contained little black rocks. Space-y looking rocks. Needless to say, I was immediately immersed....

3.3 The Replacements With a character like Kathy Bates’ Delphine LaLaurie around, racism and its vileness is going to be something the show returns to time and again (kind of like Stevie Nicks songs). After all, she’s both a woman of her time and a violent sociopath, so it’s only natural that her response to the idea of a black President of the United States (and various other black officials, both elected and appointed) is about the same as the one she has to the fact that she has to play maid to the only black person at Miss Robichaux’s School for Girls....

2.8 Unholy Night Unholy Night is proof that Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and writer James Wong have learned from the mistakes of the first season. Given Wong’s experience working on The X-Files, if anyone could pull off a monster-of-the-week story while still integrating said monster into the plot, it would be him. He does this brilliantly, thanks in no small part to the sheer brilliance of Ian McShane, who takes on the role of Leigh Emerson, a Santa-suited multiple murderer who killed dozens of people during the holidays circa 1962 and ends up in Briarcliff for his troubles....

But the movie that started it all, that first showcased Affleck in all his muscled, sweaty, newly whitened teeth glory was that popcorn flick to end all popcorn flicks, the 1998 disaster movie Armageddon. And lo, it was good (probably because the movie wasn’t actually carried by him). Apparently, the only way to save the planet from impending doom is to send the best miners in the world up to space, drill a hole, put a nuke in it and blast the rock into well, much smaller rocks....

5.8 Invasion! For those who didn’t commit to also watching The Flash part of this whole thing (shame on you) it ended with Oliver, Diggle, Sara, Ray, and Thea being abducted by an invading alien force known as the Dominators. Now, they find themselves in an alien-induced stasis that places them inside their ideal reality. However, it’s a pretty shoddy model as it doesn’t put them in separate realities. That’s some pretty poor craftsmanship....
