Defiance Episode 8 Review I Just Wasn T Made For These Times

1.8 I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times Predictably it fell for a purpose, and that was to deliver Gordon McClintock, ancient NASA astronaut to Earth. If this sounds vaguely familiar, then it’s because this is yet another reworking of the Buck Rogers concept, which was heavily mined with Farscape. I mention that only because Rockne S. O’Bannon is a writer and executive producer on this series, and was also the creator of Farscape....

Den Of Geek Book Club Podcast 3 Britta Lundin On Ship It

Forest is baffled by fans like Claire who not only “ship” Demon Heart‘s main characters together, but who also ship him with his male co-star. When the Demon Heart PR team decides to bring Claire along for the rest of the show’s con tour, Claire decides she is going to convince the showrunner to make her ship canon, while Forest vows never to let that happen. As someone who grew up in fandom and who now works in the TV industry as a writer on The CW’s Riverdale, Lundin understands both sides of the fan-creator relationship better than most....

Despite The Falling Snow Review

In 1992, an American artist called Lauren (Ferguson) is curious as to why her weary uncle Sacha (Charles Dance) is so cagey about their family’s history and the circumstances of his defection from Russia thirty years prior. In particular, she’s beguiled by her aunt Katya (also Ferguson), of whom she is the spitting image. As we learn from the film’s flashbacks to 1959, Katya is a staunch anti-Communist who is tasked with spying on Sacha, who was then a promising young government employee (and played by Sam Reid), for fellow spy Misha (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), but she finds herself falling for her mark....

Dexter A Little Reflection Review

I was very disappointed last week to see the main storyline that had been brewing come to an early close, and I’m even sadder to see the new direction that they’re heading in with Dexter and Zach. We’ve seen plenty of Dexter sidekicks in the show’s run and it’s no longer exciting to watch Dexter team up with another would-be psycho. Just because Dexter is going to teach Zach the code doesn’t make the idea any less stale....

Dexter Season 4 Episode 6 Review

Since the outset of this season we’ve been waiting for John Lithgow’s Trinity killer to meet Dexter, and this week we’re not disappointed. Having identified Arthur Mitchell last week, Dexter decides to get close to his prey and learn how this particular example of his kind works. What’s quite shocking is how much of a personality flip switch Arthur has, making Dexter, by comparison, a very mild-mannered serial killer. Having gained his confidence, Dexter gets inside the family home and locates the urn containing his sister’s ashes, and decides to push that particular button by picking it up in front of Arthur....

Dexter Season 4 Episode 7 Review

I’ve come to the conclusion that watching a TV show is much like a blossoming relationship. When it starts, everything is new and unexpected, you’re not sure what to make of it, and you’re unsure how you’ll get on. And then as it progresses, even if you’ve already decided it won’t really go anywhere, you can still enjoy the interaction and uncertainty. That’s where I am with Dexter; it’s the strange girlfriend you thought you knew, but suspected you never really did....

Doctor Who The Lodger Your Verdict

04BennettCH Viridis I was laidback through the entire episode until all of a sudden another TARDIS appeared (looking more like Dalek style then Time Lord) and I was drawn to the screen like Sophie and the Doctor were drawn to the engine. That could’ve been mindblowing. That could’ve been a second ‘Utopia’ with the appearance of another Time Lord, but instead we got this creepy computer and hologram trying to fix the ship....

Doctor Who Season 4 Episode 3 Review Planet Of The Ood

With the Tardis set to pick a random destination, the Doctor and Donna land on a frozen planet, only to come across a dying Ood in the snow. His appearance is preceded by the Doctor hearing singing in his head, which Donna cannot. With their innate ability to sniff out trouble, the pair make their way to a factory complex which we have already seen is dedicated to the ‘production’ of Ood servants for the three galaxies of the latest Great and Bountiful Human Empire....

Doctor Who Series 4 Episode 11 Review Turn Left

Let’s make no bones about this: Turn Left was really, really good. Of course, this being Doctor Who, and this being before the credits, there’s usually danger in the offing, and so it proves to be. Before long, the fortune teller has tracked Donna’s life back to a single pivotal decision, about whether to turn her car left, towards a life with the Doctor, or right, towards a life without him....

Dominion Pilot Review

In this reimagining of heavenly creatures, these ethereal beings are angels in name and appearance only. While they certainly exude holier-than-thou attitudes, Dominion‘s angels are demons in sacrificial lambs’ clothing. Indeed, in this alternate universe, angels are not mankind’s benevolent guardians—they are our enemies. But we’re not bumbling innocents. It’s because of our lack of faith that God decided to turn His back on us. And the archangel Gabriel (Carl Beukes) isn’t too happy about this turn of events....

Dragon Ball Super Episode 27 Review The Earth Explodes A Decisive Kamehameha

Dragon Ball Super Episode 27 There’s a whole lot to love in this episode of Dragon Ball Super. To begin with, things start off in a positive direction as Vegeta drops the ultimate bombshell on everyone by turning Super Saiyan Blue like it’s no big deal. It’s also pretty awesome to see Goku acknowledge that Vegeta achieved Super Saiyan God form on his own through sheer determination and training, whereas Goku required the help of five other Saiyans to unlock that power....

Dvd Dungeon Schumacher S Batman Films

It’s generally regarded that Michael Keaton’s efforts were, and still are to a certain extent, decent incarnations of the black bat. It’s also common knowledge that Joel Schumacher’s efforts were not. The problems with both films are so multi-layered, it’s best to break down the points. Problem one: Getting dreadful performances from great actors Val Kilmer and George Clooney have both produced performances before and after their Batman roles that prove what great actors they are....

Before I got to tapping away on the keys, I stumbled upon none other than Empire’s Damon Wise. After introducing myself as a fan of his and Chris Hewitt’s recent Cannes blogs, who else walks in but festival director Hannah McGill? Eiff 2010 Round Up Ollie Kepler S Expanding Purple World Toy Story 3 22 Bullets Reviews

Ollie Kepler’s Expanding Purple World It’s a perfectly acceptable story and the viewer is allowed a great deal to delve into his mind, as we should in this kind of film. In fact, we are so pulled along in his story that part of us starts to believe that maybe there is something to it, and maybe he’s not going through a nervous breakdown. It’s because the film truly, as far as the audience knows, represents what it is like to go through this challenging and tough time that we may never have gone through ourselves....

Elementary Season 3 Episode 5 Review Rip Off

3.5 Rip Off With Watson packed off on her Danish sabbatical-slash-sexcapade this week, a path was finally cleared for the Sherlock/Kitty partnership to be taken for a test drive to see what it could do. The results? Not thrilling, yet not entirely damning. The problem with – as one commenter wryly put it last week – Elementary’s “our cousin Oliver” is summed up by Kitty’s response to Gregson’s question at the end of Rip Off....

End Of Watch Review

Ayer’s no stranger to cop movies or thrillers, having written the likes of The Fast And The Furious, S.W.A.T and Training Day. But where those films were tautly plotted, End Of Watch is looser, aiming for a dynamic sense of realism that’s accentuated by its found-footage trappings. After an electrifying opening chase sequence viewed entirely from a patrol car’s hood-mounted camera, we gradually learn more about the two lawmen. Brian’s an ex-marine who’s keen to climb the ranks in the force, and he’s on the cusp of settling down with his new girlfriend Judith (Anna Kendrick)....

Endeavour Series 2 Episode 2 Review Nocturne

2.2 Nocturne Morse’s investigation into the school turns up evidence of its macabre past. Intriguingly, the dagger left by Weiss’s body – not, it transpires, the murder weapon after all – was bequeathed to the museum by the great house’s former owners, the Blaise-Hamiltons, whose money was made from tea plantations in India. On one summer’s day almost exactly a hundred years earlier, almost all the children in the family and their nursemaids were beaten to death with a croquet mallet in the gardens....

When we caught up with Newell to chat about his latest film, Great Expectations, we couldn’t not ask what had happened to his proposed Masefield adaptation, and here’s the rather interesting answer he gave us… Something close to our hearts is your planned adaptation of John Masefield’s The Box Of Delights. At the time of writing, for example, the first two films in the sci-fi genre on Prime Video are Interstellar and Inception – logical choices, you could say, since they’re among the more better-known and acclaimed genre films of the past eight years. Not far behind, we find Arrival – Denis Villenueve’s critically lauded and very moving alien visitation drama – and after that, In Time, Andrew Niccol’s post-financial crisis thriller starring Justin Timberlake....

Falling Skies Evolve Or Die Review

That is, until the Espheni spoke! Scorch’s failure is much more apparent, though, as his search for the escaped prisoners has proven fruitless, thank goodness. It was no surprise that Tom put the whole group on hold to search for Matt; the 2nd Mass has always had to put up with his personal rescue missions. Likewise, Pope’s disdain for Hal’s inaction and subsequent insubordination was completely expected, but as I mentioned before, it was refreshing to see Pope off hunting for needed supplies again, especially since it appears to have netted him a friend named Sara, played by Oscar winner Mira Sorvino....
