The Bridge Series 4 Episode 2 Review

Saga’s recovering in hospital after being stabbed by Elsa (Linda Kunze) following her acquittal; as Henrik explains, her erstwhile ‘friend’ thought doing so would somehow make her stay. Henrik doesn’t think Saga should go back to work immediately, but – inevitably – she disagrees, and is soon up and about again. Long-time viewers will love the scene in which Saga ditches her iconic Porsche’s dust covers and takes it for its first post-release spin, with a smile of pure joy on her face....

The Cape Episode 9 Review Razer

Razer By comparison, The Cape feels like it’s running on fumes. With its 13-episode order cut down to 10, I’m clearly not the only person who noticed that they ran out of all their good ideas about three minutes into the pilot. This episode starts with a drive-by shooting, which manages, entirely at random,to happen right next to where Vince’s family is going about their business. Luckily, The Cape turns up, following his family like a mental neighbour with a restraining order....

The Clone Wars Season 4 Episode 13 Review Escape From Kadavo

4.13 Escape From Kadavo The latest story arc comes to an end with the Jedi still on the hunt of the missing population of the planet Kiros. Obi Wan, Anakin, Ahsoka and Captain Rex have tracked them down and hatched a rescue plan – though it hasn’t gone quite as they’d hoped. After the issues of slavery and Anakin’s entry into the Jedi, the third part of the Slavers Trilogy is somewhat of a let down....

The Fades Episode 3 Review

Ladies and gentlemen of the discerning Den Of Geek audience, something special is happening on BBC Three on Wednesday nights. Something unique. Something rare. Something well worth an hour of your precious viewing time. That something is The Fades, possibly the first great, home-grown(ish) horror series of the 21st century’s awkward pre-teen years. Having established its ‘interesting and engaging’ credentials in the first two episodes, the latest instalment of the supernatural drama took that ‘interesting and engaging’ and raised it to compelling....

The Following Season 2 Episode 10 Review Teacher S Pet

2.10 Teacher’s Pet That changed this week. During one of Joe’s revival meetings with the red robes of Korban, Emma brings over a large ginger cat. Joe talks about the glory of sacrifice, and how to take care of resistance and the value of persistence, and then he takes the cat from Emma, pets it, and strangles it until its neck breaks in between flashbacks. Joe killed a cat (off screen, thankfully) and not only does it turn off the viewing audience, it also turns off several of the cult members, who ask to be excused from killing duty (only to end up being thrown in the reeducation hole by Emma)....

The Gifted Episode 4 Review Exit Strategy

The Gifted Episode 4 There are certain tropes that are nearly universal in every effective X-Men story. The good ones are always full of soapy non-mutant backstories, melodramatic romance subplots, and visually interesting applications of powers. The longer The Giftedgoes on, the more confident I am that the folks making it get the same things. This week’s episode, “eXit strategy,” hit all four to great effect. All of these things when described out loud are utterly absurd, but that’s why The Giftedis turning into such a good X-Men adaptation....

The Good Place Season 2 Episode 13 Review Somewhere Else

2.13 Somewhere Else It was a page that featured a graph with information about the Gospels of the New Testament – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This graph highlighted all of the inconsistencies and changes in the Gospels from every different version and translation of the Bible. There are dozens of versions of the Bible like the World English Bible, Quaker Bible, many versions of the King James bible and so on and each version’s Gospels contain multitudes of similarities and differences from version to version....

The Hitman S Bodyguard Review

If only it had been funny. Let’s do the good bits first, though. Samuel L Jackson is never less than good fun, and his moments with Salma Hayek are highlights. There’s a welcome burst of Lionel Ritchie’s Hello too, played to comedy effect. Furthermore, The Expendables 3 director Patrick Hughes loves a good, old-fashioned brutal firefight, and whatever company supplies such films with muzzle flashes would have enclosed a hefty invoice for their efforts here....

The Ingrid Pitt Column Beijing Burn Out

I do have a bit of an interest in the Olympic Games in general but it’s restricted to things I learned at my father’s knee. He was an entrant in the first Games. Not the ones held in Olympia in 776 AD but the modern edition put on for individuals, amateurs who wanted to test themselves again their peers, in Athens in 1896. He had always argued that the Games should be a four yearly event held in its home town of Athens....

The James Clayton Column Bond Ginger Bond

There’s a thought that may leave you both shaken and stirred, which to be honest isn’t fair on redheads. Shame on you for your disgusting negative attitude towards the orange-tops! Sadly though, those with gingery bits atop their bonce are mostly either the subject of ridicule, scorn or suspicion by the mass populace. Even if a red-headed actor, acclaimed as the finest screen performer of his generation, rose to take the Walther PPK and reaped the plaudits as the perfect 007, people wouldn’t be able to refer to him as “the ginger James Bond”....

The James Clayton Column Parlare Porco Rosso The Italian Adjustment Bureau

I decided I needed to make like George Clooney in The American and flee to the Italian countryside to find myself, resynchronise my soul and hide from threatening hostile forces. It was either that or the subconscious influence of The Godfather encouraging me to follow Michael Corleone’s route of ‘run away to the rustic old country and marry the most beautiful girl in the village while the mafia wars rage back home’....

The Legend Of Korra Operation Beifong Review

The title says it all. Bolin finds himself working alongside three generations of Beifongs when Toph shows up to tell Lin and Opal that their family is being held elsewhere. Doing his best to stifle all his fanboy squee over Toph, Bolin leads them to the re-education camp, where they execute a successful rescue attempt of Su, Baatar, and the boys. Meanwhile, Korra uses her Avatar cred to appeal to the spirits to lend their support to the fight against Kuvira, but they refuse for some surprisingly sensible reasons....

The Magicians The Writing Room Review

The Magicians Season 1 Episode 9 It’s especially unclear what Julia is up to this week, but her progress is nevertheless a welcome change for her character. Although Richard calls Julia’s encounter with the locked-in, self-taught magician, Kiera, “penance,” it’s also suggested that the spell that Julia helps her complete is something truly special. Julia’s confusion at Kiera’s desire to be killed was understandable, but Richard paints the existential picture in broad strokes: “What do you think redemption looks like, Julia?...

Sabrina and Jimmy also find themselves tangled in a unique storyline where Jimmy worries over Sabrina’s new relationship due to what it may mean for her date’s professional sports career. The Originals Season 2 Episode 7 Chasing The Devil S Tail

2.7 Chasing The Devil’s Tail The introduction of Ansel just last week, for example, turned out to be a simple device to get Klaus to be conflicted about something in regards to Hope’s safety. We’ve been waiting to meet Klaus’ werewolf father since he was introduced way back in Vampire Diaries season two, after all....

The Other Big Actor Payday Of 1989

No actor in the 1980s managed to bag as good a deal for a single movie role as Jack Nicholson. In agreeing to sign up to play The Joker in Tim Burton’s 1989 movie Batman, he cut his up front fee from $10m to $6m. In exchange for the $4m price cut, Nicholson took a cut of the film’s earnings, its merchandise sales, and earnings from future sequels. Even though he wasn’t on screen for a second after the first Batman film, he continued to take a cut from the likes of Batman Returns and Batman Forever too....

The Sarah Jane Adventures Prisoner Of The Judoon Part Two Review

Elisabeth Sladen spends much of the concluding part to Prisoner Of The Judoon under the influence, which turns her into a rather coquettish oddity who sounds in dire need of a lozenge or two. The alien in question, Androvax (“Destroyer of Worlds”, apparently, though one does wonder how exactly), doesn’t get much screen time but is a memorable addition to the ‘monsters’ in The Sarah Jane Adventures – especially his creepy voice and unnerving threat to SJ as he exits with the Judoon....
