Celebrating Odd 70S And 80S Schedule Filling Cartoons

Nowadays you have to watch specific children’s channels to get some Wile-E-Coyote, Tom and Jerry or Duck Dodgers action but these little gaps gave children of the era access to a whole plethora of cartoons to devour. While there is a cliché that said cartoons were always Polish and about somebody being chased by Plasticine tower-blocks (thanks Alexi Sayle) there were actually some innovative, if obscure animations shown around this time (when I say innovative, I really mean cheap to purchase)....

Chuck Season 4 Episode 8 Review Chuck Versus The Fear Of Death

4.8 Chuck Versus The Fear of Death Almost everything in here pivots around Chuck’s loss of the Intersect power, and a very convoluted plan to get it back masterminded by psychologist Jim Rye (Rob Riggle). I’d say that Jim was possibly the most entertaining aspect of the show, but after taking Chuck to Switzerland (or let’s be honest, to a few hokey sets) and exposing him to dangers of increased lethality, he’s no closer to flashing....

Community Season 5 Episode 6 Review Analysis Of Cork Based Networking

5.6 Analysis Of Cork-Based Networking “What this school needs is a band of heroes; champions, willing to rise up and… ‘get all of those potatoes out of the gym’.” The previous five episodes in Dan Harmon’s comeback season have very much been about re-instating the status quo, (or Harmon-y?) of Community. It’s too bad that the show is going on mid-season hiatus for the next few weeks, to make way for NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics, because now that we’re back on track, Analysis Of Cork-Based Networking covers a lot more ground, and has many of the signs of feeding into the main season arc....

Crank High Voltage Review

Jason Statham’s movie franchises have become increasingly more important to me over the last few years, providing a much needed and reliable source of pure action movie entertainment, especially in a time where a large number of the films I’ve seen seem to be offensively bland. Yet the aspect of his films that surprises me most, is that he is the sole box office draw and with no other names to fall back on, Statham’s brand of cinematic violence has led to a string of profitable big screen releases, with Crank: High Voltage standing next in line for those of us who simply love seeing him tear up the screen....

Crashing Season 2 Pete Holmes On The Show S Progression

Earlier this year, I spoke to Holmes when Crashing hadn’t even dropped its first episode. Now Crashing is filming its second season and the first has just been released on DVD and Blu-ray. So we actually spoke before Crashing season 1 dropped, before anyone had seen it and now here we are! That’s crazy. It’s wild to hear you say that. It’s a year-round job. Relentless always sounds negative, but relentless just means it just keeps going....

Crazy Ex Girlfriend Season 2 Episode 4 Review When Will Josh And His Friend Leave Me Alone

This review contains spoilers. 2.4 When Will Josh And His Friend Leave Me Alone? …And that’s a wrap for Santino Fontana. But as much as it kind of hurts to see him go, at least we got a couple of catchy new songs to remember Greg by. First, there was It Was A Shitshow, a shockingly honest and heart-wrenching assassination of Greg and Rebecca’s entire relationship. It really was, wasn’t it?...

Daredevil Season 2 Episode 12 Viewing Notes The Dark At The End Of The Tunnel

This was kind of a strange episode. Perhaps motivated by the need to wrap up Frank’s storyline without having it steal time from the end of Matt’s, this instalment sees Frank finally track down and confront the guy who made his life a misery: The Blacksmith. And it turns out to be Colonel Schoonover, Frank’s old commander. That guy we met for like three minutes that one time. I’m probably not alone in thinking this isn’t a particularly satisfying reveal, though it also isn’t like they had anywhere else to go with it because this series wasn’t exactly stuffed with characters who had any kind of personal connection to Frank....

Deadpool 2 Ending Explained What S Next For X Force

So, good news! We’re at the point where there are more good Deadpool movies in existence than bad Deadpool movies! He has that over Terminator. Plus there was stuff about dying and not dying and whatever. Either way, Deadpool’s still alive and because of that, Cable is stranded in the present. Speaking of time travel and being alive, Deadpool’s wacky mid-credits adventures completely undoes Vanessa’s death and the death of mild-mannered Peter....

Meanwhile, Debra discovers that Anton isn’t a registered informant, and that Joey pays him in cash, which isn’t the way Miami Police do things; there’s a rat being smelt here. And they have an abrasive exchange when he’s confronted. Who’s telling the truth, the evasive Joey or uber-bitch Yuki from Internal Affairs? Someone is being sparing with the truth, but who is it? Dexter and Miguel investigate Billy Fleeter’s home, looking for evidence, and finding it progresses the possibility that he’s going to become a missing person statistic....

Digimon The Movie Now Owned By Disney

Digimon: The Movie. It should be noted however that this isn’t the first time Disney has touched Digimon. When Disney bought out the rights for the Fox Family channel (they were even buying Fox then!) they also snagged the rights to a bunch of different shows including Digimon. They dubbed several more films in the series (the first was done by Fox originally) and released a full dub of the fifth season....

Disenchantment Episode 3 Review The Princess Of Darkness

Disenchantment Episode 3 It’s a bit unfortunate Disenchantment felt the need to take two episodes to set up its premise and that, in all that premise-setting, it accidentally introduced kind of crappy versions of its characters. “The Princess of Darkness” works as an antidote to all that, presenting the most solid versions of these characters and how they interact with each other yet, in a well-paced, self-contained plot. King Zog is almost a different character now and is a lot more likable as a result....

Doctor Foster Series 2 Episode 2 Review

In twenty-four hours, Gemma Foster uncovered a mole, forged an alliance over monkfish, stalked her son, wine-cried in front of his best mate, spied on her ex’s new wife, had it large, shagged a teacher and ate a croissant. Gemma is a busy woman. She needs to be. She has a war to wage and a reason to wage it – son Tom, the Helen of Troy in this whole mess (if, you know, Paris was Helen’s dad and had lured her away from Menelaus with a massive house and a PlayStation after years of shagging about behind Menelaus’ back....

Doctor Who Series 10 Oxygen Review

10.5 Oxygen It started with a Star Trek line. It ended with a hell of a cliffhanger. It left us hoping that Chris Chibnall has already signed up writer Jamie Mathieson – returning to Doctor Who writing following the likes of Flatline and Mummy On The Orient Express – for series 11. It would be fair to say that Oxygen was something of a triumph. And I’m going to start at the end....

Doctor Who Series 9 Face The Raven Review

9.10 Face The Raven Is Clara dead for good? Who knows. Doctor Who certainly has form in bringing back deceased characters, and it’s not as if there haven’t been other versions of her dotting around. Does Jodie Foster Have A Point About Superhero Movies Ruining Cinema

All of this is to say that Jodie Foster might have a point about superhero movies, or at the very least mega-budgeted blockbusters, ruining cinema in America. Indeed, the two-time Academy Award winner has been in the industry since childhood, growing up on the small and big screen before becoming one of the preeminent actors of her generation, as well as a producer and director. She’s even giving a try at helming science fiction, as she is making the rounds to promote her guest spot as director on Black Mirror Season 4’s “Arkhangel” episode....

Domhnall Gleeson Stakes Are Higher For Hux In Star Wars The Last Jedi

The Last Jedi also gives us a different view of Hux along with a few twists and turns, but of course we’ll leave that for you to discover as the movie opens in a million theaters this weekend. We did speak with the busy Gleeson — for whom The Last Jedi is the fifth movie he’s appeared in this year — about his response to writer/director Rian Johnson’s script, how Hux plays off his allies and whether there could have been a role for Gleeson’s dad — the great actor Brendan Gleeson — in the Star Wars universe....

Everything Or Nothing The Untold Story Of 007 Review

Bond has been in my life for almost as long as I can remember, always making public holidays, especially Christmas, that little bit more explosive, with his sardonic wit and breathless feats of daring. Roger Moore was the first Bond I saw, with my innocent young mind unaware there was anything remotely camp or knowing in his performance. That came many years later when re-watching A View To A Kill, and it was a slightly terrifying revelation....

Extant Season Finale Review Ascension

The moment I had been waiting for was for the two disparate plots to converge somehow, and I was not disappointed. I’ll admit I saw Ethan’s explosive sacrifice coming, but it was no less enjoyable for having anticipated it. In fact, it made me all that more surprised when it proved to be an impermanent end for Ethan. Consider the implications of the android’s consciousness being everywhere. Did the Offspring, the “architect of eternal life” as Yasumoto called it, grant Ethan an electronic form of an afterlife?...

Fear The Walking Dead Pillar Of Salt Review

Fear The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 12 Disappointment is too strong a word to describe my feelings toward “Pillar of Salt,” especially because the episode had some inspired moments. But “Pillar” also had some exceptionally wrongheaded moments in which certain characters abandon common sense merely to drive the plot forward. Yes, I’ve said that the horror genre relies on bad decision-making, but this episode is long on drama and short on horror....

Fear The Walking Dead Episode 1 Review Pilot

1.1 Pilot The immediate change for Fear The Walking Dead, after the cold opening, is that we’re in a vibrant, living, breathing world full of the living, not so much the dead. We open with Nick Clark (Frank Dillane) waking up in a ruined church building surrounded by detritus and sleeping bags and other paraphernalia. Is this another Rick Grimes situation? Are we opening up in a world of the dead this time, too?...
