By far the funniest episode so far, this third episode is one long stream of rapid gags and comedy moments in succession, all carefully entwined with some great set-ups that ranged from slapstick to just plain embarrassing. From Moss’ first mishap with a cup of coffee to Douglas’ electric sex pants and then Jen coming into her own, after two seasons of being stuck with the computer crowd really not knowing actually what ‘IT’ means....

Ergo, Tron: Legacy can be appreciated in a number of ways. You can simply see it as a reboot of a retro cult property amping up dated effects to today’s cutting edge. You can take it as a blockbuster blast of neon visuals, electro noise and spectacular light cycle arena combat action. The film can be swallowed as a flashy father and son reconciliation story in a hi-tech digital dimension (‘Honey, I Was Abducted by an Arcade Console’)....

The Magicians Season 1 Episode 5 There’s a lot crammed into this week’s episode of The Magicians, but the story is making definite progress with the mystery surrounding The Beast deepening and several of the characters taking on more complexity. Earlier misgivings, such as the lack of adult guidance and clear competence, have been laid to rest, and the show is really starting to distinguish itself as a fantasy that eschews conventional approaches to magic....

The fact that the series has taken such a different path to get its characters to this point is a real creative feat. “We knew that, to capture the spirit that we felt when we read the books, we were going to have to make some plot departures,” Gamble admits. “We always say that there’s a map that gets you from, say, L.A. to New York; [Lev Grossman] got there using his roads, and we’re going to the same place, but we’re taking a slightly different roads than he did some of the time....

Just another episode in The Sarah Jane Adventures! If you were paying ‘close’ attention in Part One then the denouement will come as no surprise (though it certainly appeared that Clyde and Rani must have been dozing during yesterday’s plot points). And just in case you missed them (or forgot), the audience were treated to yet another flashback. Yup, Series Three really is the king of the flashbacks. But credit must go to the production team for displaying mere glimpses of the monster, or the Abomination as the guys and gals called it, we heard in the previous installment....

4.5 Belly Of The Beast In the present, Quinlan and Fet are still trying to secure the parts needed for their own nuclear device (try North Korea fellas, jeez Louise). This hunt for the explosive McGuffin allows the episode to flash back to what life was like for Quinlan during the Victorian era, because really, it’s a rule in the Constitution or something that all vampires must at some point have a storyline take place in Victorian England....

And like any Mouse House devotees who also grew up during the period of Disney’s greatest animation streak—a time when lions could sing and ballroom waltzes with furry dog-men ended on the Oscar stage—we too are getting swept up in the movie memories of days gone by. Indeed, one of the most fascinating things about the Disney Renaissance is how it rekindled a love for musicals in a whole new generation after the genre’s ostensible big screen demise....

There was a moment in last night’s series opener when I found myself doing something I’ve never done before in any Coogan production: I looked at my watch to see how long was left. The moment came about halfway through his and Brydon’s elongated impressions show, which provided the centrepiece of the half hour’s entertainment provided here. Both Brydon and Coogan are adept impressionists, of course, and there is much humour to had in that in itself, but it was stretched out here to a point that impacted on the flow of the episode....

4.8 We’ll Always Have Bourbon Street The episode didn’t seem overly concerned with all those life or death crises that are still looming, as we spend the hour with Damon and Stefan as they take a trip to New Orleans. The point of this isn’t clear, as the one-in-a-million chance of a human being tied to a vampire has apparently happened to Damon twice. Thinking that he’d cured his former sired girlfriend back in forties, the brothers search for the witch who had promised him the problem-solving spell....

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 2 Well, that was one hell of an episode last week, wasn’t it? For many longtime fans of the show, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” may have marked the beginning of a new season, but it also marked the end of the road for two beloved characters. For some viewers, the episode marked the end of watching The Walking Dead. I do think “The Well” does a great job of introducing another key character into the expanding TWD universe....

1.2 Summer Summer, with its loosely structured combination of a new age gathering and a family barbeque (feat. the return of Evelyn the Irish nurse), won’t have endeared anyone who came away from Spring disappointed by the lack of narrative. It was similarly meandering, more scene-setting than storytelling. For the most part though, the scene being set is irresistible in its unpretentiousness. Period drama (there might not be bonnets and barouches, but this counts) has a tendency to glamorise the past....

Timeless Season 2 Episode 8 This season of Timeless has greatly benefited from broadening the scope of who can travel in the lifeboat and who can be affected by time travel, and centering an episode on Agent Christopher is long overdue in fleshing out an important character’s back story. Allowing Jiya to accompany Lucy brought a fun dynamic to the mission to correct Denise’s career trajectory, and their decision to share the time travel secret with the young cop speaks volumes about their own experience with knowledge of the future....

Just as Tropic Thunder looks like it’s going to admirably take the piss out of Apocalypse Now, so this mockumentary making-of trailer does the same to the documentary of Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar-winning effort, Hearts of Darkness. Starring all the cast from Tropic Thunder, including Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr and, most notably Steve Coogan, the Rain of Madness trailer somehow manages to be even funnier than ‘Thunder’s efforts....

Transporter 3 demonstrated all of the points I’d been discussing beforehand. It even had the mighty Statham’s character, Frank, wake up in just his shorts after a stint of being unconscious, looking as though the bad guys responsible had covered him with a fine sheen of grease, or at the very least turned up the temperature in the room to ‘man sweat’ levels. The great thing about T3, though, is that it embraces all its clichés with open arms, a fantastic sense of humour and even makes reference to the overt sexuality of all the shirtless fighting (nay, whipping!...

When last we left eternal damsel in distress Sookie Stackhouse, she was in dire need of a quick rescue. At the opening of Timebomb, the latest True Blood episode, it’s would-be rapist Gabe who needs rescuing. Sadly for him, Godric, missing sheriff and cause of Sookie’s current predicament, finally steps in and puts an end to Gabe’s desires. Permanently. Starting on a high, Timebomb ends in the stratosphere, in what is quite possibly the best True Blood episode ever....

1.3 The Locked Room ‘The world needs bad men. We keep the other bad men from the door’. Rust Cohle may possess a pronounced tendency to articulate his convictions and perceptions via a battery of ‘ten dollar words’ but there are times when single syllables will do. His assertion that there are uses for men with the worst impulses may seem odd for a man on the trail of whichever sonofabitch killed Dora Lange, but it may prove a comfort for his companion on that trail, a guy who we may now suspect to be rather a bad man too....

“It’s really amazing to run into somebody and just be like, ‘Oh, this is a real unicorn,’” says Ron Livingston, who plays Theron’s husband in the film, about his co-star. “This is a person who is strong and powerful and beautiful and artistic and funny and sharing…she’s a love, she’s just a real love, and so good.” Mark Duplass, who plays Marlo’s brother Craig in the film, is equally enthusiastic about the Oscar-winning actress: “You ever meet people sometimes and you’re like, ‘I don’t know how you got to this elevated place in your life and career, ‘cause you kind of don’t have what it takes to have gotten there?...

Voltron Season 5 Episode 5 While last episode was a major game changer this one featured a much smaller change in the status quo that could lead to a fundamental shift in the overall conflict. Sam is going back to Earth and could be upgrading their defenses. What happens if Earth enters the conflict though? Will that help team Voltron or just complicate things, especially with Lotor now on the Galra throne?...

Voltron Season 5 Episode 6 So… Is Lotor really a bad guy? The whole season has made me question it. He genuinely seems like he wants to make the Galra Empire a better place. His story to Allura about working with an alien species seems genuine. I don’t think he made it up just manipulate her. He really does want unlimited quintessence to bring peace to the Empire. What will he do for that peace?...
