Fear the Walking Dead Season 4 Episode 6 “Just in Case” isn’t just this episode’s title, it’s analogous to Fear the Walking Dead’s tentative, half-in approach to its fourth season. Just like Nick, Strand, Naomi, and now Madison, Fear itself is noncommittal, unable to trust its instincts. This season would suggest that survival is contingent on preparing for the worst, in never living in the moment, of always yearning for something better....

5.10 Anomaly XB-6783746 Last week I mentioned that the uncommunicative Observer boy would become rapidly boring, and I’m happy to accept I got that entirely wrong. The trials and tribulations of getting him to respond proved a most interesting puzzle, but what I really liked here is that the time to save the world is getting rather short. Windmark is also becoming a worthy antagonist, determined to understand more about his foes, before calmly wiping them out....

At the same time, the pair embarked on a directing career as well, helming 2015’s Vacation sequel/reboot and now the original comedy film Game Night, starring Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler and Jesse Plemons. Apparently the studio behind the film, Warner Bros., liked what it saw when the duo delivered Game Night: they’re in talks to write and direct Flashpoint, the reality-and-time-bending standalone Flash movie that could reset the DC film universe in more ways than one....

Indeed, relationship Charity Relate reckons that its counsellors are “increasingly seeing problems with relationships and sexual functioning that are associated with the use of internet porn.” Are you spending longer than you intended watching pornography?Do you spend time viewing pornography when you have work or other productive activities to undertake?Have you ever viewed pornography on a device that’s not your own?Do you ever change social plans to undertake sexual activity online or view sexual material?...

Damn right. If you’re in the grip of some form of mental health challenge, or suspect you might be, opening up about it is the first step. Such an important step too, as without it, it’s virtually impossible for things to get better. There’s no promise of radical improvement instantly if you do, too, but it certainly helps the odds. But how do you even get the conversation started? Well, you don’t have to hit it head on....

And that last thing is cool because the sitcom format has trained me to view moments as climactic that, in real life, might be less so. For example, in most shows, if a member of the core cast has a big falling out with a less integral character, it’s sensible enough to conclude that we’ll never see that lesser character again. But, in real life, relationships can really take a pounding and it usually takes a lot more to completely decimate them....

Gotham Season 4 Episode 10 It says a lot about Gotham that I more or less believed the show when it appeared to have its fan favorite character murder a small, adorable child he claims to love. We viewers were given an entire commercial break to stew in that plot development and decide how we might feel about Oswald blowing up Martin in an effort to demonstrate just how serious he is about controlling the Gotham underworld....

6.10 Blood Magic It initially appears as if there are dual storylines; Nick and Hank have to investigate the brutal murders of Portland residents, while at the same time dealing with the death of the resident of an elderly care home, who may or may not have been Wesen. Of course, the two end up being linked but it’s not initially obvious as to how. What we do discover, however, is that elderly Wesen who suffer from dementia sometimes experience uncontrolled woges....

3.11 And The Beast From The Sea The incomparable Laura Akers is off on vacation this week and asked if I might write something about this past week’s Hannibal, And The Beast From The Sea in her stead. So prepare yourselves for something nowhere near as insightful and entertaining as Laura’s regular work. I’ve been a Hannibal obsessive since the series premiered in 2013. I’ve followed the trials and tribulations of Fuller and company as they struggled to stay on the air despite abysmal ratings, and while Season One had its weaknesses, I found Season Two to be remarkable from start to finish....

3.2 Primavera We had been promised in PR materials that we’d learn the fate of those Hannibal butchered back in Baltimore: Jack, Alana, Will, and Abigail. But of course, it would have been unlike the patient Fuller to actually let spill all the secrets at once, so for now, narratively speaking, the status of Jack and Alana remains a mystery. Although, since we know both Lawrence Fishburne and Caroline Dhavernas are regulars this third season, it’s doubtful that either is dead—though Primavera does suggest an interesting alternate possibility for the return of Alana’s character....

In Greek mythology, Cronus (father of thunder god Zeus, brother of pastry god Cronut) castrated his father with a sickle and cast his testicles into the sea. In episode five of Hard Sun, young Daniel took an ice-pick to the winkle of his father Noah Underhill – rapist, night-time jogger and, judging by his running gear, extra from 1982’s Tron. We don’t know whether Daniel had any plans for his dad’s testicles, but I wouldn’t put it past him....

We finally have a definitive answer: Elam lives! Hallelujah! When viewers last saw him in season three, he had set off on a Cullen rescue mission only to have the misfortune of encountering a large angry or hungry brown bear with a conflicting agenda. Apparently mister bear didn’t receive the smoke signal that he should steer clear of Elam Ferguson. I liked the various elements at play in this episode....

While you were away, your best friend, Elam, has gone missing, presumed dead. You should’ve known he’d come looking for you after all you two have experienced. More on Elam later, as details of his whereabouts or final resting place are as muddy a pig pen or Durant’s moral compass. We didn’t want to give up hope that you were still alive, but some of the townsfolk probably gave into despair and moved on when you didn’t return within a few days....

1.1 Brave New World & 1.2 Odessa Firstly, don’t be fooled by the network rebranding, this is Heroes season five in all but name. The story picks up in the aftermath of the original show’s finale, exudes the exact same tone and features a generous handful of old characters, the most notable being Noah Bennett (Jack Coleman) who takes a more central role this time around. Indeed, one thing Heroes Reborn needed to get right was the balance between old and new characters....

And that is how it’s going to be; next Monday’s episode will be the end of the current season for Heroes – and even if the WGA strike currently hitting all the shows is resolved in talks this week, season two will continue down the line in a very different mode. Trust me, that has been related to me from a first-hand source! Bob delivers Noah’s ‘ashes’ to the Bennet family – though we have seen that he is not really dead....

On the Saul front, CIA Director Andrew Lockhart was flown into Islamabad to negotiate Saul Berenson’s safe return at any cost. This was told to Saul by none over than Haqquani towards the end of their several day bonding trip throughout the countryside. The look on Saul’s face seemed to be nausea at the thought of being an unintended bargaining chip to release any terrorists or political prisoners he’s spent his life rounding up and locking down....

Henry Cavill has probably hung up his Superman cape. Ben Affleck is still fed up playing Batman. Warner Bros has a busy slate of superhero movies lined up for the next few years, with Aquaman, Shazam!, Wonder Woman 1984, Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps, The Flash, Birds Of Prey, Black Adam and about a dozen Joker projects all in the works (seriously, you can check out the full schedule of DC superhero movies in the works right here)....

7.4 Benny’s Funeral After last week’s entirely jump the shark exercise in the casino, it was, perhaps, not a bad thing that there weren’t any huge Hulk-like leaps of logic in this story. After attending the funeral of a well respected grifter called Benny, Ash is somewhat confused when the same man runs past him, looking oddly like actor Denis Lawson (Local Hero), while he’s sitting in a traffic jam....

With In Your Eyes, Whedon proves that while he may have signed a deal with Marvel to direct Avengers movies until his soul bleeds, he still never said anything about writing other movies. Indeed, much like his bubbly summer evening cocktail party complete with a game of Shakespeare recitation in Much Ado About Nothing, Whedon’s latest film feels like a celebration of the high-concept and blessedly small budget. But it is in the smallest price tags that the greatest freedom is found....

2.3 The Trial Of Elizabeth Gadge. “It’s like The Crucible, but with a few extra gags thrown in” – Steve Pemberton on this week’s episode The third instalment of this series of Inside No. 9 took us back to a perilous, and ridiculous, time in British history – the witch trials of the 17th century. In the small town of Little Happens, witchfinders Mr Warren (Shearsmith) and Mr Clarke (Pemberton) arrive to trial local woman Elizabeth Gadge for the crime of witchcraft....
