This was actually a surprisingly good episode and is really split into two. First of all we have the minor threat (if it can be called that) of a massive mammoth on the loose on the M25, and with the use of effects and camera techniques all in all this makes for a pretty impressive set piece (with a little bit of a homage to Jurassic Park thrown in). The only complaint is that the mammoth they encounter just happens to be the non-woolly kind, but knowing a thing or two about computers and the difficulty in rendering hair or fur, I can see the meeting with the techie guys and producers....

Even if a manic high school party filled with drunk 17-year-olds sounds like your idea of hell, Project X will still do a good job of taking you along for the ride. The story and characterisation are paper thin, with the sense that the filmmakers were keen to get those pesky talky bits out of the way so they could get to the good stuff. The set up is thus: it’s Thomas’ (Thomas Mann) birthday and best friend Costa (Oliver Cooper) wants to throw him the best party ever, scoring greater social status in their school as a result....

Others see a functioning human being – working, chatting, socialising with an occasional laugh or smile – but behind closed doors in the personal confines of home nothing could be further from the truth. We mask the all-encompassing darkness that seeps into every anxiety-ridden moment, a private Pandora’s Box that only self-erupts when alone. Mental illness is a wholly internalised affair, it’s an endless production line of emotional affliction and outright frustration, which can sporadically manifest as painful self-mutilation....

This episode is like a perfect identikit picture of Pushing Daisies, so perfect that it wouldn’t be able to send a Morse code message from the bottom of a coal mine without being immediately identified. Vivian Charles turns up at Emerson Cod’s office and demands that he go find Dwight Dixon, with whom she’s formed an attachment before he died and Emerson put him in Charles Charles’ coffin. Obviously, he doesn’t mention that he knows exactly where he is, and instead tries to dissuade her from this disastrous course of action....

Yes, there’s an awful lot of Twilight that shows up in Red Riding Hood, right down to the teenage heroine torn between two boys of fairly equal desirability, if not equal social standing. However, rather than having to choose between a werewolf and a vampire, the lovely Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) has to choose between a poor but handsome woodcutter named Peter (Shiloh Fernandez) and a rich but handsome blacksmith named Henry (Max Irons)....

Enter the Tuskegee Airmen, known for the red nose and tail paint patterns on their airplanes. The movie’s focus is on one squadron of the group, led by Easy (Nate Parker) and composed of, at various times, Lightning (David Oyelowo), Joker (Elijah Kelley), Junior (Tristan Wilds), and Smoky (Ne-Yo). They fight both the Germans and racism, they struggle with substandard equipment and segregated facilities, and yet, in spite of all the hardship, they excel....

Repo! The Genetic Opera is set in a not too distant future where an organ failure epidemic has plagued the earth. Biotech company GeneCo has stepped in to save the day, offering out organ transplants in exchange for cash. Those that miss their payments receive a visit from the company’s Repo Men, hence the title. I’ve watched it four or five times now and I still can’t get my head around it....

Requiem Episode 1 In these days of boundless choice when it comes to entertainment, sometimes I find I don’t know what I want to watch next. From the latest cinematic offerings to the range of options with each streaming service: what is it that will really reward my attention? Realism or escapism? Drama or comedy? 1.15 11001001 The Enterprise D docks at Starbase 84 to have its Holodeck repaired after it nearly killed one of their crew members a few episodes ago. Not a bad idea, although when it does similar in the future everyone forgets they even tried in the past. After the ship docks, everyone immediately drops what they’re doing and declares it a duvet day – everyone except Riker, who doesn’t appear to have any interests outside of being second in command....

1.6 Where No-One Has Gone Before The story sees a sceptical crew welcome on board the “propulsion expert” Mr. Kosinski and his strange, mute companion, THE TRAVELER. A definite science fiction rule of thumb: if someone’s name starts with “The” they’re almost certainly more interesting than you, especially if what follows is a completely mundane occupation. When doing job interviews, weed those ones out first. Of course, The Traveler’s space-powers mean that he accidentally catapults the Enterprise halfway across the universe while no-one except Wesley is looking (really…)....

It was revealed last night amongst the many stories emerging from Kapow! Comic Con in London that Robert Sheehan will be leaving the BAFTA-winning Misfits. The news was confirmed by the show’s producer, Petra Fried, who said that the character Nathan would not be returning for series three. Arguably the show’s most popular character, Nathan is to make his exit via an online short that will also introduce new character, Rudy....

I’ll tell you who’s doing well out of the Robot Wars revival, those print shops you drive past on the outskirts of towns that make custom hoodies. You’re no-one on this show if you’re not wearing a lightweight, breathable polo shirt embroidered with a word that probably sounded like a good idea when you made it up in your shed. Those guys must be raking it in. Viewers at home, as it goes, aren’t doing badly out of it either....

Here’s the thing. Honestly, if it didn’t win continuity points for introducing the disguise pen, would Episode 3 even matter? No. So, for those of you who don’t feel like going back and watching the entire first season, here’s a nice, neat viewing guide to the highlights of its 46-episode run. Scandal Season 7 Episode 4 The subject of tonight’s episode, “Lost Girls,” was relegated to the side hallway while I had to suffer through yet another Olivia tries to deal with her feelings for Fitz. Several seasons later, everyone knows they’ll end up in bed while intermittent lovers brood off to the side. Olivia’s current fling is Curtis Pryce, a primetime political talk show host. I increasingly tire of the ease in which Olivia Pope and her father, Rowan Pope, resort to righteous indignation, pouting and shouting, and one too many unnecessary soliloquies....

Introduced by Andrew Collins, the film was prefaced at the Edinburgh International TV Festival with an intriguing note from another TV festival session stating that the UK was yet to adopt the Showrunner and Writers’ Room system because it was too expensive (leading to some post-film grumbles about presenters and actors’ wages). Den Of Geek’s thoughts were that Doctor Who isn’t quite there, adopting an informal version of this system without an official writers’ room (with its hierarchical structure that also acts as a career ladder in US TV), but with Steven Moffat’s two shows being the most prominent examples in British television....

SKAM Austin: Season 1, Week 1 Welcome to the world of SKAM Austin, which feels a little bit like SKAM(the Norwegian teen drama upon which it’s based), a little bit like Friday Night Lights, and a little bit like it’s own, wonderful thing. Like most things based on other things, presumably, it will soon develop its own unique flavor and momentum as it goes along, meaning those first two descriptors will fade from our minds and we will all stop comparing SKAM Austin to already-existing stories and judge it on its very own merits....

Doing it the week after one of your most popular characters has departed is even more inviting of viewer distaste. Respect to Bryan Elsley and newcomer Sam Jackson then, that the episode doesn’t come off too badly, but it’s still a huge step down from the quality on display last week....
