Orion is pissed off and will do anything to avenge his people. While the footage doesn’t exactly support this, considering he seems to be jumping around and being more elated than anything else, my theory that I highly doubt the show will ever acknowledge is this: when he was left all on his own to train, vengeance became second nature to him....

2.8 Holes This episode belongs mostly to Joseph Gilgun, who has a pretty difficult task. He’s supposed to carry the episode (as much as anyone on an ensemble show can be expected to carry things). Cas is the fun guy who is fun to mask his pain, which is a very old cliché indeed. It’s difficult to keep that from being rote, and to make the character’s sadness feel organic when for the most part he’s been drinking and cracking jokes throughout the series....

4.24 A Is For Answers The whole episode, as promised, hinged on Alison’s story of the night her life was stolen from her. We wasted no time getting to this part, with the person on the roof revealed to be Noel (obvious, given that he’s a pretty prominent guest star), and we learn that Noel has been blackmailed into helping Alison due to some secrets of his own. Old habits die hard, eh?...

Now, I must admit, while having a prime-time sci-fi show on ITV is great, the programme, quite frankly, isn’t and should be reviewed as what it is – a cheap and cheerful action adventure show aimed at kids, with dinosaurs and cheap ITV writers. If I am overly harsh in my review, it’s not because I don’t like dinosaurs or sci-fi but really, if this is the best we can expect a terrestrial channel to produce in the genre, then all hope is gone....

Yet for all the online hatred, remakes of old horror movies are bankable affairs. So much so, it seems, that Prom Night has taken its name from an 80’s slasher but built an entirely different film around it. This is particularly confusing given that the target audience for this 15-rated horror is unlikely to have even been born when the original was released. No matter, it would appear, as the film took the number one box office spot in the US, raking in over $20m in its opening weekend....

A lawyer played by prosthetic makeup-free Ethan Phillips (yep, Neelix from Voyager) comes to tell Emerson that his long time friend and client, Gustav Hoffer, has been killed in mysterious circumstances when he was hit by a falling chandelier. It’s time for Ned to get touchy for 60 seconds, and then find out if his ditsy young bride, Elise, is the culprit. Actually, what Gustav tells them only confuses matters as he makes reference to a will that’s gone missing and a ‘bell boy’....

11.4 Officer Rimmer Easily the best riff on the 3D printing concept comes very early in the episode, as a ‘paper’ jam causes the captain of the other ship to come out wrong, with his eyes stretched to the top of his head. It’s a relatable gag for just about anyone who’s ever had to print something, and it’s also an effective bit of body horror, with a simple but unnerving bit of makeup that’s good for a few cruel gags....

As is somewhat cruelly pointed out by the bottom half of the internet any time a new series comes around, there’s no hiding the fact that the Red Dwarf crew are all a lot longer in the tooth than they used to be; the original twenty-somethings are now fifty-something, and both Kryten actor Robert Llewellyn and series writer Doug Naylor have entered their seventh decade. It’s fitting, then, and in keeping with Naylor’s ambition to tell completely new stories, that Krysis deals with the effects of middle-age, with Kryten experiencing a full-blown mid-life crisis....

Episode one’s careful portrait of Ethel Christie, a woman who gave in ineluctably to her quietly lethal husband, worked thanks to Tim Roth and Samantha Morton’s performances, and the socially responsible decision to tell Christie’s awful story from Ethel’s untold perspective. Episode two, however, side-lined Roth and Morton to focus on Tim Evans, the young man wrongfully hanged for the killing of his wife and daughter, murders committed off-screen by Christie....

1.5 The Weight Of One Man’s Heart In The Weight of One Man’s Heart, a blast from the past returns in the form of Madoc Faulkner, his old Colonel from the army, played by the formidable Iain Glenn. Meanwhile, H Division are being kept busy as some hefty amounts of jewellery are being stolen in a series of masterminded robberies. Bizarrely, all of the items are returned minus one sapphire, which Madoc offers to Bennet with an ultimatum....

Screw the plot, you all know the plot. They stuck to the plot, but moved it to Paris and updated it. Kind of. This is fifty years later and there are things like sonograms and advances in medical and birthing science that they could ignore. Like the feckless faithful ignore evolution. Rosemary’s Baby, the TV Movie, is at its heart a medical soap opera. I wish they had that old timey organ....

Scandal Season 7 Episode 18 When all was written and done, the Scandal series finale left me with the visual of an ill-fitting bow atop a gift box. I didn’t expect any last-minute revelations that would hint to a spinoff, however, I had hoped the final installment written by the show’s creator would have been more satisfying. I’m well within my rights to have wanted a different final show. I don’t know if I’m disappointed because I needed the bad guys to pay for their crimes and they didn’t....

Those earlier SyFy and SciFi Channel movies were hybrid monsters that go back to stories by Robert Louis Stevenson. Dinocrock is half dinosaur, half crocodile, for instance. Mansquito earned the right to ask “Are we not men?” The sharks and the tornado in Sharknado are a team rather than a genetic splice, although Sharkicane would have been a more accurate title. Team Sharknado start on the ocean. They foil some kind of illicit deal being made on International Waters by jumping jaws first onto the deck and taking chunks out of people who were set just to be eaten....

I’m glad I did: I find Itch to be a treat. The blurb suggests it’s aimed at a teenage audience, but I still got a lot of fun out of it. And thus, it was all the more interesting to be able to talk to its author about it. Here’s what happened… I started writing it for my son, but pretty much ended up writing it for myself. All the stuff in there about Gaia theory, a normal reader will take away a discussion about energy and its resources, etcetera....

6.5 The Mad King Several of the themes discussed in my previous reviews were very much present in this episode. There’s the aforementioned ‘past coming back to affect the present’ concept, cemented in the viewers’ minds by the fact that the school shooting will not go away. We also see the idea of personal responsibility being connected to how the actions of the characters impact the world around them. In a very poignant scene when Nero and Jax are together it is Nero who once again accepts the fact that the school shooting was at least in some way his fault....

6.9 John 8:32 Tara, who remains the only character who clearly sees that association with the club leads to death, reminds Nero and us that Gemma has in some ways always been a harbinger of death. Arguably, this downward spiral started when she and Clay decided to kill JT. Tara even tells Nero “I suggest you get out now before you end up dead too.” The references to the circumstances surrounding JT’s death were coming fast and furious this week....

“We probably have more freedom than anyone in television and we have for a long time,” he said. Best Celebrity Takedown: There’s plenty to choose from here. President Obama was once again a main character but this election season he wasn’t as exciting without McCain and Palin by his side. “Faith Hilling” and “Tebowing” highlighted the meme episode but neither celebrity made an appearance in the show. Honey Boo-Boo should never win anything so by default, the best celebrity takedown goes to “A Scause for Applause” and South Park’s creative take on Lance Armstrong and the Livestrong bracelets....

A Place In This World Indeed, the main thread of the episode (as alluded to in the title) asks what a slave should when his master disappears. In the case of Oenomaus, the answer is to return to the pit and wait for death. In the case of Tiberius, it is to search for a new cause. Neither appears to fully succeed, but the seeds of drama planted here will grow into mighty plots....
