Here’s what we’ve got: Avatar 2 – December 18, 2020 Avatar 3 – December 17, 2021 Avatar 5 – December 19, 2025 So it will take over a decade from the release of the first Avatar film (which was released in 2009 and took in $2.7 billion globally) to get us that initial sequel. Why is there a three year gap between Avatar 3 and Avatar 4? That’s anybody’s guess. Maybe James Cameron is hoping these will be fully immersive VR experiences by then or something. Here’s the official announcement, just in case you don’t believe us. We’ll update this with more information as it becomes available. Posted by Avatar on Saturday, April 22, 2017
