The first is Ant-Man and the Wasp, out this July, and it’s not too much of a stretch to forecast that the movie will be similar to 2015’s Ant-Man in tone and style. But more mysterious at this point is Captain Marvel, next March’s introduction of Air Force pilot turned half-alien superbeing Carol Danvers (played by Brie Larson). “We are tapping into, in a way we haven’t before, the Kree-Skrull War from the comics,” he continued. “It is very much a cosmic film that also has earthbound elements because of the setting. And as you know we’ve revealed that it’s set in the ’90s. Anna and Ryan are tapping into their shared love of sort of ’90s action films to a certain extent that just allows us to play in a fun new arena. But that film is entirely about introducing audiences to Carol Danvers and to a hero who is more powerful than any hero we’ve ever introduced.” With Danvers more or less also confirmed to appear in the fourth, yet-to-be-titled Avengers film next May as well — along with Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) — we asked Feige if those two films will contain elements that will act to bridge the two Avengers behemoths that bookend them. “Yes. I mean, I think it’s a great combination,” said Feige. “There are elements in Infinity War which will play into both Ant Man & the Wasp and Captain Marvel. There are elements in those two films that will play directly into Untitled Avengers. But both of them are essentially 90% or more standalone movies.” Captain Marvel opens on March 8, 2019.
