Folks have started poring over the commentary and bonus features on the Infinity War home release, and the Russo brothers have quite a few interesting things to add to the discourse in general on their directors’ commentary, but they took the time to specifically address the issues that plagued Bruce Banner after he smashed back down to Earth in the opening section of the film. It’s fair to say most of us had presumed that Hulk refused to make an appearance to take on Thanos because he’d had his ass kicked by the huge purple madman earlier on, but it turns out that this isn’t the case....

Even today though, people think Waterworld bombed. It certainly comes up regularly in lists of supposed box office bombs. Firstly, it took good money at the box office. Whilst the $175m negative cost was presumably matched by a good $70-odd million of marketing, the box office returns weren’t bad. Waterworld took $264m in cinemas alone, and whilst Universal Pictures would have done well to see half of that, it certainly made a massive dent in the production budget....

Because of this, and because the world is slightly unfair, it wouldn’t have been enough for Wonder Woman to have turned out average. If this film was to get a lukewarm reception, or only draw out female fans to cinemas rather than audiences across the four quadrants, then it’s likely this iteration of Diana Prince would be banished to only larger team-up movies a la Black Widow. To begin with, the film’s structure is not unlike that of a modern Disney princess movie, and the live action remake of Mulan should probably take some notes....

Last night’s episode, “Twenty-Two,” is a showcase of the gauntlet that Edgar is going through on this show as well as the range that Desmin Borges is capable of bringing to the table. It’s a clear stand-out of the series and certainly the best Edgar episode to date, but it’s also arguably the show’s heaviest installment (and weirdly its most optimistic). We touched base with Desmin Borges about Edgar’s dark spiral of this season, the importance of an episode like “Twenty-Two,” and why Zustified is the better workout than Treadsparent....

Zack and Miri is not a classic Kevin Smith film. All the classic Kevin Smith traits are there: profane language, lots of witty banter, moderately outlandish situations. However, the film is light on pop culture and comic book references (as Kevin Smith films go) and it has lost a lot of Smith’s hallmark cynicism that is on display throughout most of Clerks and Dogma, and none of the comic book energy of a film like Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back....

One of Shotaro’s earlier and longest-running manga was Cyborg 009, which told the story of an international group of cyborg spies who turned against their criminal masters to fight the forces of evil. Hugely popular in Japan, Cyborg 009 prompted a string of anime adventures both on the small screen and in cinemas – the most recent TV run ended in 2001. The awkwardly titled (to type, at least) 009 Re: Cyborg is an updating of Shotaro’s concept, bringing its multicultural, multitalented heroes into an edgier, post-9/11 setting....

127 Hours tells the true story of Aron Ralston, an active outdoors-type whose rock climbing outing was cut short one day when his arm became pinned beneath a falling boulder. Having spent more than five days stuck at the bottom of a Utah canyon with nothing more than a bottle of water and a blunt penknife for company, Ralston was forced to undertake extraordinarily painful measures in order to escape certain death....

If destiny is a script that has already been written, then we should know exactly how a world that claims Jack Bauer works. When 24 left television in the spring of 2010, fans of the show were divided. Some, including myself, got into the game late, jumping into the final handful of seasons without first viewing the show’s supposed glory days. I had friends who were longtime fans of the show that got so burned out and fed up with Jack’s against-all-odds heroics that they jumped ship, not caring to see how the show ended....

24 Season 8 9:00-10:00am With Renee dead, Jack’s emotional state is certainly not in good health, and he wastes no time in following up on Chloe’s reveal that Renee knew one of the EMTs at the site of Samir’s death. As expected, this lead to the resurfacing of Bashaev, the man who lead the mafia group the EMT assassin belonged to. Meanwhile, in a sign of almost superhuman recovery, Ethan Kanin is back on his feet, suited and booted and ready for some governmental action, and we also get to see ex-president Logan do his thing in a meeting with Novakovich, effectively blackmailing the superpower to capitulate and return to the peace treaty....

Last week, I praised 30 Rock for its wealth of material, a compliment that College may have proved to have been a bit premature. This week’s episode borrows its first storyline from season one’s The C Word and flimsily spins another from an old one-liner that ends up delivering about one line’s worth of laughs. It was one of Jack’s crisis weeks. Every so often in 30 Rock, Jack loses his glossy, controlled demeanour and we catch a glimpse of the seething mass of doubt and insecurity that lies underneath the Armani....

That may sound a bit hyperbolic to be sure, but anyone who has read the touching and terrifying fourth issue of Afterlife with Archie will agree with the assessment that the comic explodes with creative potential. If you have been following Den of Geek’s updates about this issue, then you know that Archie encounters a zombified loved one in its pages. While I wouldn’t dare to reveal the who, when, and whys of this meeting, I will say that it results in the second of two deaths in the issue that are absolutely devastating....

Agent Carter season 2 episode 6 and 7 It wasn’t the best week to be a fan of Marvel’s Agent Carter. With news of Hayley Atwell signing on for a new ABC TV series, it leaves fans with doubts about whether we’ll get to see Agent Carter season 3. This would be a shame. The show’s strength is its characters and this week, the plot serves up many reminders about how awesome these characters are and how terrible it would be if anything happened to any of our heroes....

Not only is the animated series moving from its longtime home of Fox to TBS, but co-creator Mike Barker, and the voice responsible for some of the show’s most quintessential episodes (“My Morning Straitjacket” and “Lost in Space,” which was entirely on Roger’s home planet), exited the show over “creative differences” after the move. The inevitable question is whether American Dad is going to lose its edge or “voice,” even though TBS’ ads seem to be constantly screaming that this season will be edgier than ever....

American Dad Season 12 Episode 21 “That’s it, we’re gonna hang out! If you’re going to kill anyone in this family it’s going to be Francine.” That being said, I have this weird affinity where I harbor a great deal of enjoyment for episodes of television that are about bowling (like The Simpsons’ “Team Homer,” for instance). For whatever reason they seem to typically be well-rounded installments that hold a suspicious amount of resonance....

2.5 I Am Anne Frank (Part 2) Perhaps that’s the point. Human life is a horrible, painful thing, and nobody’s going to get out of this world unscathed no matter how good a person they might be. Bad things happen to good people, both on this show and in the real world (bad things also happen to bad people, especially on this show). Are there any truly good characters, aside from Kit?...

But in the end, we needn’t have worried. It’s Marvel Studios. Even on a bad day, it still shows you a good time. And Ant-Man is Marvel Studios having one of its pretty good days. It’s hard not to look at Ant-Man and see all the things that the first Iron Man film did right. It has a similarly tight script and conservative running time, coupled with clear ideas about where its characters are going and how they get there....

With these big hits, along with pre-production underway of a re-boot of Spider-Man, as well as X-Men: First Class currently before the cameras for release next year, the evolution of Marvel as a cinematic force is surely all but complete. It’s built on the already-impressive foundations of Iron Man, and is now in the process of putting a series of linked movies together. But what then? What about the other Marvel characters that have been licensed to other publishers, long before the firm put together its own cinema strategy?...

1.10 Burned This week’s episode is all about Ollie’s internal state, and John Barrowman doesn’t make an appearance at all. The warning has been set and we can fear the next encounter the two of them have, but for now we’re back to villains of the week who are there to mirror Oliver’s own mindset. This time it’s Firefly (originally a Batman villain), a scorned fire-fighter who’s going after others who he believes have done him wrong....

Starz’s latest brief yet – ahem – colorful promo for season three of everyone’s favorite splatcom Ash vs Evil Dead shows our favorite Deadite cleanup crew getting all cute and cuddly with the legions of the undead. For example, is that Pablo laughing maniacally, covered in blood from head to toe, plotting someone’s doom? No, silly. That’s just our favorite powerful vagina having some much needed peanut butter and jelly time after a long day at work....

3.5 Tribal Is it the best episode Banshee has ever done? Not necessarily. There were one or two little caveats that bothered me a bit (why for example did Chayton let Hood live at the end?), but by and large this was a thrilling and beautifully constructed hour of television that proves Banshee is in absolutely top form right now. Coming off the back of two preceding episodes that both could make a strong claim for ‘best ever’ status, Tribal maintained the standard with aplomb....
