Krypton Episode 8 Review Savage Night

Krypton Episode 8 Damn, Krypton. You did not pull any punches with that ending. Since she showed up halfway through the season, Ona has been the innocence and heart of this show, and of Krypton as a society. She is a representation of the very people Seg and, I suppose, Adam, are trying to save. So, when Brainiac’s Sentry uses her as a bomb in an attempt to take out Seg and co....

Legends Of Tomorrow Episode 1 Review Pilot

1.1 Pilot These admirable levels of ambition make it even more disappointing to admit that Legends’ pilot episode isn’t particularly brilliant. Perhaps – after months of hype from Arrow, The Flash, and The CW’s marketing team – this first episode was always going to be a let-down. After all, it gives itself far too much to do in 45 minutes. The pilot needs to introduce a spacefaring hero, establish a new set of time travel rules, explain the idea of Time Masters, bring together a team of superheroes (and villains), spell out who they are for the casual viewers and rebuild the threat of Vandal Savage, as well as offering enough basic enjoyment – action, jokes, teases of things to come – to hook us in for next week....

Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 21 Review Family Ties

Lethal Weapon: Season 2, Episode 21 “Why do I care?” “He’s family.” Big changes can lead to even larger consequences. People are often told that change is good, but sometimes it’s not always so easy to make that call. Changes like a big promotion, a change of scenery, or a new family member are all major events, but the truth is that when some things change they really just stay the same....

Louie Season Finale Review Pamela Part 3

It doesn’t start that way. In fact, the opening, in which Pamela gets rid of all of Louie’s furniture while he’s out because she thinks it all sucks, feels like it’s setting up their relationship’s implosion. But instead, he just accepts that if you’re in a relationship with Pamela, she might just sell all your shit one day. Plus, the blow is softened by the fact that he gets to have sex with her in the middle of his bare floor and, even though she claims she isn’t going to, she does go shopping with him for new stuff....

Mad Men Season 6 Episode 11 Review Favors

6.11 Favors A moment’s silence before we begin though, to mark the passing of Sally Draper’s sexual innocence. First came her public indiscretion in front of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., then she walked in on Megan’s mother getting a mouthful of Uncle Roger at that charity ball, and now she catches her father “comforting” his downstairs neighbour (not a euphemism. Hang on, yes, a euphemism, but for the other thing)....

Mad Men Season 6 Episode 12 Review The Quality Of Mercy

6.12 The Quality of Mercy It’s taken almost six seasons, but by inheriting the Chevy account, Pete Campbell finally has something he wants. The victory – such as it is – must have put Pete in a good mood, because the Shakespeare-referencing mercy in this week’s episode title was his. The recipient? Don Draper tribute act, Bob Benson. James Wolk did a grand job of conveying Benson’s duplicity this week, demonstrating that underneath beaming Bob’s surface sits a resourceful schemer unafraid to protect himself if threatened....

Mad Men Season 6 Episode 3 Review The Collaborators

6.3 The Collaborators We join Don and co. a month after we left them on the cusp of 1968. The North Koreans had captured the USS Pueblo, the Vietcong had attacked the US embassy in Saigon, and Pete Campbell had run out of toilet paper. In short, things in Mad Men were looking bleak. Don’s workplace battle was being fought with sweaty Herb from Jaguar, whose slimy return this week ensured the Tet wasn’t the only thing being offensive....

Mad Men Season 7 Episode 4 Review The Monolith

7.4 The Monolith Bye bye season two’s photocopier, hello The Machine. The installation of SC&P’s cosmos-disturbing computer was the backdrop to this week’s Mad Men, an episode that took obsolescence and happiness as its subjects. Don’s looming obsolescence and Margaret’s fleeting happiness, to be precise. After three weeks of doing nothing at work (who’d ever have thought one of Don Draper’s secretaries would have been able to say “He never leaves” the office) the humiliatingly short leash Don had been put on by the partners finally began to chafe....

Mars Needs Moms Review

You see, it’s time to reprogram the nanny bots that raise Martian children, and to do that they need a fresh mother every 15 years or so. To do that, the Martians find and kidnap a qualified Earth mother, but the Martians will soon find out that Milo is no ordinary kid, especially once he sneaks on board their spaceship and becomes determined to get his mother back at all costs....

Marvel S Agents Of S H I E L D Season 4 Episode 19 Review All The Madame S Men

4.19 All The Madame’s Men It’s hard to really recap these Framework-laden episodes of Agents Of SHIELD and hit all these highlights because the character work in this Marvel mirror universe is so damn good. Each and every major SHIELD player deserves time to shine, but it’s impossible to do that in a limited space without giving one of the major players short shrift. But rest assured, these Framework episodes have been the creative height of the series as each and every character has his or her spotlight moments as the creatives really take advantage of the opportunities the What If?...

They all go for a drive, eating food they’ve robbed from a garage. They keep on driving, seeing zombies but not really being all that troubled by them. Matt S Confused Reviews Police Academy

“Sound like a fucking riot” says humourless Captain Harris “A real recipe for disaster. Should be great for the casual observer. I mean, it will prove massively inconvenient for me, who will have to handle the day-to-day running of the academy and who will be held accountable for the quality of the recruits. But otherwise, sure, it sounds like an absolute hoot” “What’s Directive 4, Murphy?” “Classified” answers Murphy, who is half-robot, half-cop (a Robocop, if you will) “Beep, blup, bloop....

Midwinter Of The Spirit Episode 1 Review

Opening with shots of an elderly priest praying over a dying man in hospital intercut with a gang hunting someone in the woods, there was a flash of barbed wire, a scream, and we were into a moody title sequence filled with images of smoke, candles being blown out, and shadows crawling over furniture. We’re firmly in The Exorcist slash Midsomer Murders territory here (plus some Wicker Man thrown in for good measure) with a crucifixion-themed murder scene to go with all the talk of demonic possession, and some rather sinister village locals....

Opium Cd Review

I’m not talking about the superlative ‘One Track Lover’ which Matt composed and sung for Darkplace, I’m talking about his 2005 album ‘Opium’, which is now available on iTunes. For some of you, the ‘Introduction’ track will be the best track Yes never recorded. Matt’s spoken word introduction and the heady mixture of retro sounds will be the best three minutes you have ever had in your life. But wait, because it gets better, much better....

Orphan Black To Hound Nature In Her Wanderings Review

Science and religion have been dual themes of Orphan Black from the beginning, two aspects of man that can be the salvation for our favorite set of clones or damn them to being dissected or violated in ways unimaginable. This week, for the most part, science takes center stage, as all four protagonist clones are on personal quests for salvation while being hunted by purveyors of science gone wrong or religion gone even more horribly wrong....

Orphan Black Season 5 Episode 7 Review Gag Or Throttle

Orphan Black Season 5, Episode 7 This episode belongs to Rachel Duncan: her stark upbringing, coming to terms with the mysterious illness plaguing the Ledas, her continual betrayal by every scientist around her, and her eventual redemption arc. Once again, Orphan Black uses flashback superbly, as an essential addition to this specific episode, rather than a drawn-out obligation. Not ever present day scene has a flashback counterpart, but when they do the pairs are expertly matched to draw heightened meaning....

Outcasts Episode 3 Review

Appreciating that there are good reasons why it couldn’t jump straight in at this point, my initial reaction to Outcasts’ third episode was that maybe the show wouldn’t have had quite as bumpy a first week had it kicked off with the events we get here. For what the episode delivers is a central, here-and-now concern to focus everyone’s energies, and to bring the tensions and beliefs simmering under the surface to the fore....

Peaky Blinders Series 2 Episode 5 Review

With the proper return of Grace, the collapse of the Peaky Blinders gang’s forays into London and pressure mounting on Tommy from Major Campbell, there is a lot to take in during this episode. From both a dramatic and technical viewpoint, Peaky Blinders just continues to race toward its impending finale with confidence, verve and tension. The opening of the episode is a masterclass of direction and scripting. Frenetic, tense and tight, the opening scenes quickly unfold to show quite how much trouble the Shelbys have gotten themselves in to....
