For this particular action orientated youngster this story wasn’t well received, as it’s effectively a Perry Mason style courtroom drama set in space. But watching it afresh, it’s not at all bad, and has some neat twists that elevate it above my original expectations. Adding extra spice to the case is prosecuting attorney Lt. Areel Shaw, who is not only an effective legal brief but also a previous girlfriend of Kirk’s....
“I always wanted to have human feelings,” a droid says when Fives bares his heart to it. “But I do not. Good bye.” It’s funny, and it’s followed by an establishing shot of spaceships that give the viewer some breathing room and tries to reduce the tonal whiplash, but it’s also followed by grim scenes that seem a bit disjointed in comparison. The art direction fares better throughout. Shaak Ti’s bright coloring stands out nicely against the dominantly white color scheme of Kamino....
And that, among other things, makes it difficult to review. The Force Awakens has a pedigree: prolific author Alan Dean Foster ghostwrote the novelization of A New Hope and Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, the first EU novel, as well as scores of other franchise fiction and original novels. Flipping through, I realize that a lot of the same stylistic choices that bothered me in Foster’s version of The Force Awakens are present in the A New Hope novelization, too....
Star Wars Rebels: Season 3 Episode 20 One of season three’s main arcs comes to an end in a stark, mythology-heavy episode. It’s no secret that Maul is one of my favorite characters, but seeing him killed – and killed quickly – was just one of the many things to unpack in “Twin Suns”. This episode, written by Dave Filoni and Henry Gilroy, balances three stories in one. Ezra sets off on a mission to find Obi-Wan Kenobi against Hera’s wishes, while Maul haunts him and heads for a collision with Obi-Wan....
The first trailer for the game is a nostalgic look at the 1986 original, which was developed by Binary Systems and published by Electronic Arts, and also shows off a brief look at what to expect from the new game. Hopefully, you should all be glad to hear that this is a very, very geeky episode. The episode is called Time, so it should be obvious to all reading this just why that is. Considering the episode title, we can guess what happened, as do they, quickly, and the episode shifts back to the emotional resonance that the events on the alien planet caused. As they watch the situation unfold via the Kino, the sickness starts to affect people on board Destiny who came into contact with the team who collected the device from the planet....
The end of Stitchers, confirmed by TV Line, arrives a month after Freeform aired the last of its 10-episode Season 3 run on August 14. The series debuted in 2015 as a slick paradigmatic showcase of the new young-adult-aimed direction of the cable outlet – formerly ABC Family – in its branding transition to Freeform. The series clearly earned itself a small but loyal audience, with Season 3 numbers holding steadily with 365,000 viewers compared to Season 2’s 387,000 viewers....
…And then there was the time the cable company failed me and I missed discovering the identity of the Benefactor because I was informed that Monday’s episode of Teen Wolf was a repeat. Guess what? IT TOTALLY WASN’T AND MEREDITH IS THE BENEFACTOR AND ALSO NOT DEAD AND EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS EPISODE WAS AMAZING. Okay, I need to calm down, remove my magical hat of pure fandom, and, in its place, don my serious-critical-but-still-stylish review’s hat....
4.9 Perishable However, what was surprising was the return of Meredith Walker, everyone’s favorite creepy Banshee, as a crucial character in the Teen Wolf universe. Granted, death comes fast and loose in the Teen Wolf world, and is easily discarded if Jeff Davis likes the actor enough (which is why Aaron Hendry gets to play both the bandage-faced Nogitsune and the creepy orderly Brunski), but seeing Meredith return was completely unexpected....
5.12 Damnatio Memoriae One of the rare places where Teen Wolf is let down is in the show’s use of CGI. They do their best to keep it rare, to save it for sweetening moments, but very rarely do they just build creatures whole hog out of digital effects. That’s probably a good move; if movies, which have tens of millions of dollars to spend, can’t make convincing CGI creatures, why would a television show think they could shoot around digital effects?...
5.15 Amplification The wolf pack is back! Or the two werewolves, werecoyote, kitsune and human gang. But wolf pack sounds better. Amplification unfolds like an Ocean’s Eleven heist, although with considerably more skull drilling. Dr Valack wants to amplify Lydia’s abilities, which doesn’t seem too bad in theory, but as Deaton points out, the operation could kill Lydia and potentially the rest of the town if she screamed loud enough....
The Affair Season 3 Episode 7 So that was a big surprise, wasn’t it? We get an episode that’s split up into Whitney and Luisa’s perspectives as we get an appreciated change of pa—nah, I’m just fucking with you. It’s more Noah and Helen this week… “But I’m not.” After the events of last episode, Helen once more goes into caretaker mode when it comes to a vulnerable Noah. I’m kind of blown away at the sheer audacity of Helen bringing Noah back into her house while she’s still with Vic, as well as having him perform medical duties on him, but I suppose that’s sort of the point here....
“The Courier” is just that. He’s a criminal middleman, perfect for anything from sales of state secrets to delivering ransoms for kidnappings. Oh, I’m sorry, does this sound dull? He’s also rigorously “honest” (well, as honest as anyone in this line of work can be) and he’ll kill BOTH parties if one tries to double-cross the other. Still not enough? He’s got a neurological condition that prevents him from feeling physical pain....
As you may have noticed from various trailers for the series, much of the animation in The Dragon Prince is… off. While shots of sweeping vistas and action scenes are mostly animated very well, the all-important character scenes where everyone is talking are tough to watch. The actions aren’t fluid and it makes you wonder if you need to reset your Internet connection. There’s a sense of resignation by many of the older characters in the series....
The Expendables is, to my action movie eyes, awesome. It’s like some kind of fevered dream, a surreal out of body experience, which I still can’t believe happened. Everyone knows that fact by now and I feel bad for stating the obvious, but it really is an entire reason for The Expendables to exist, as it fulfils a moment in movie history that I have been waiting decades for, and I can never express the gratitude and excitement that it delivered....

4.10 The Trial Of The Flash And after all my grousing early in the season about how the show was leaning too hard on villain-of-the-week, overly jokey, low-stakes stories, it’s been refreshing to see how The Flash has course corrected over the last few episodes, without turning into the relentlessly grim race against time that defined so much of season three. These are all very good things. But everything else?...
What bothers me most about The Following is that it is just plain creepy and becoming a bit grotesque. And there is no real point to any of it and just feels like doing something for shock value. It leaves you scratching your head and wondering just how exactly this moves the narrative forward. Then you wonder if there actually is a narrative. I don’t care if you do not have a traditional three-act structure but give me something to work with....
All set? Good. Early on in “Trust Me,” the romance between Lily and Ryan is played up, and personally, it feels forced. Yes, we realize that everyone targeted by Carroll has died and Ryan has latched onto her because she is the only survivor—but for the first two episodes and a bit of this third episode, Kevin Bacon and Connie Nielsen had almost no chemistry on screen. Then, everything changes....
