Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 3 Episode 20 Review Citadel Rescue

3.20 Citadel Rescue Bringing the third consecutive mini-trilogy to an end, this latest episode continues with the wonderful set pieces and eye-pleasing imagery, whilst also questioning the nature of the Jedi. It also manages to kill off a rather important character, too, but more of that later. It’s no great surprise that the gang escape the Citadel. That’s a given. But it’s the journey they take that provides the entertainment....

Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 2 Episode 5 Review

“Believe in yourself or nobody will.” On the bridge of a proto-star destroyer, Obi Wan is pondering with Kai Mundi why the war is taking so long, being drawn out and why, once again, the Jedi are heading to Genosis. His quiet contemplation, however, is spoilt when Ahsoka and Anakin’s bickering spills into the command room with their taunts about one-upmanship regarding the training of the clone squadron and the amount of ‘kills’ they got in shattering the peace....

Star Wars Movie News Boba Fett Spin Off Unified Universe And More

“[The] Story Group has a hand in all facets of Star Wars storytelling, including movies, TV, games and publishing,” Chee wrote in a series of recent posts on Twitter. “More so than ever, the canon field will serve us internally simply for classification rather than setting hierarchy.” It’s a logical enough move, yet one which could have fascinating and far-reaching effects on the Star Wars saga in the years to come....

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Episode 18 Review Secret Cargo

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Episode 18 Rebels fans have been wondering for a while when they would see the formation of the Rebellion proper. “Secret Cargo” delivers with yet another enjoyable episode, this one showing Mon Mothma’s transformation from senator to rebel leader in dramatic fashion. “Secret Cargo” was packed with particularly Star Wars thrills – Mon Mothma’s presence and the very clear connection between her role in the Prequels and in the Original Trilogy; the TIE Defender, utilized by Thrawn; Rebel pilots; and some utter pseudoscience making for an exciting action scene....

Supernatural Scary Dramas Part Three

The BBC continued to produce great drama for children throughout the seventies. 1978 was arguably the pinnacle of the supernatural and scary trend with three BBC drama serials exploring these themes. Although relatively tame by the standards of the serials I’ve outlined thus far, this does have one particularly chilling scene. The cliffhanger to episode 4 has the evil Arabella burning a wax voodoo doll of Penelope. The scene is enhanced by the serial’s theme Greensleeves being somewhat inappropriate to the visuals....

Supernatural Road Trip Review

Dean has to face the moral question of whether he’s willing to kill Sam to rid the world of Metatron’s errand boy Gadreel. But we know our Dean, and he can’t kill Sammy. During the agonizing torture scene in which Crowley tries to pry Gadreel’s name from his head, Dean actually has to leave the room and ask Cas to distract him. It’s a great moment to show Dean’s vulnerability, and I believe Jensen Ackles played the part of the agitated brother well....

Supernatural Season 6 Episode 11 Review Appointment In Samarra

6.11 Appointment In Samarra I’m going to have to start the recap of this episode with a slight spoiler. Dean dies. Thankfully, it’s only a temporary measure to allow him to contact Death. Dean has reasoned that Death is possibly the only entity able to retrieve Sam’s soul from Lucifer’s cage. He can, but again points out how warped Sam’s soul would be and goes on to say how he can put a wall in Sam’s soul to keep back the corruption, but it would only be a temporary measure....

Teen Wolf Season 3 Episode 11 Review Alpha Pact

3.11 Alpha Pact This week’s episode moves at a breakneck pace, which is fitting because it’s the second-to-last episode of the season (technically, the show is split into two twelve-episode half-seasons, but that’s just semantics). There’s a lot of ground to cover and not a lot of time in which to do it, so Teen Wolf throws everything at the wall this week while keeping its characters separated. There’s not a whole lot of Alpha Pack, Jennifer Blake, or even Scott this week, but the show makes up for it by focusing on its more interesting characters (and also a lot of Derek and Cora, but that’s offset by the greatness that is Peter Hale)....

Teen Wolf Season 3 Episode 23 Review Insatiable

3.23 Insatiable Teen Wolf, at its core, is about all the travails of young relationships. Scott and Stiles, Scott and his mother, Stiles and his father, Scott and his mentor Derek, and of course, Scott and his first love, Allison Argent. He’s the titular teen wolf, and she’s the daughter of a couple of devoted werewolf hunters. They’re the show’s Romeo and Juliet, and I think we all though they would eventually end up together, but as we find out this week, that’s not going to happen because Allison Argent is dead courtesy of the oni and the nogitsune’s lust for chaos and disorder....

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Mutation Situation Review

The turtles lack of focus in their fight with Krang causes canisters of mutagen to rain down upon Manhattan. Some canisters survive the fall, but others break on contact, including the one that hits Kirby O’Neil while protecting his daughter April (who had tricked him to go outside to help the turtles). April accidentally pushes Kirby off the ledge and faster than you can say “Yes father, I shall become a bat,” he crashes through a colony of bats and mutates into Wingnut....

Terra Nova Episode 3 Review Instinct

Instinct Luckily, Terra Nova‘s latest episode actually represents something of an incremental improvement. In this instalment, the Terra Nova compound comes under attack from a group of migrating pterosaurs, and Elisabeth discovers that an old boyfriend – Malcolm – is the project’s chief science officer. Meanwhile, the older kids, Josh and Maddy, adapt to life in their new home. As you can probably tell from the synopsis, the scope of this episode is far narrower than the pilot, but the story itself is much tighter as a result, and the characters are proportionally more comfortable in their roles....

The 25 Most Underrated Film Scores Of The 1990S

The movies went through tumultuous and exciting changes in the nineties. Quentin Tarantino exploded onto the scene with Reservoir Dogs, Generation X gave rise to slacker marvels like Clerks, and blockbusters like The Matrix put the awe back into special effects. 25. Don Juan De Marco (1995) Michael Kamen was largely defined by his action scores for the likes of Die Hard and Lethal Weapon, but his emotional work for drama was always superior....

The Affair Season 3 Please Give Alison A Break

The Affair Season 3 Episode 3 “That’s what we do when we fall off horses. We get right back on.” Four episodes into this season, we finally get to spend some quality time with Cole. Funny enough though, this focus on him ends up feeling a lot more like your typical Noah installment. Watching Cole feign ignorance with Luisa over Alison immediately brings up shades of Noah’s attempts at subterfuge back when this show began....

The Apprentice 2008 Episode 7 Review

Because if it wasn’t clear before, last night’s episode demonstrated the increasing savviness, and idiocy, of the modern day Apprentice contestant. It seemed like a roomful of people who knew how to play the game, by aiming attacks on their co-contenders, oblivious to how much they’d screwed up or otherwise. Last week, we felt distinct unease at the bullying that was making its way through. This week, we still can’t think of any situation where we’d want to meet a single one of them....

The Big Bang Theory Season 6 Episode 24 Review The Bon Voyage Reaction

6.24 The Bon Voyage Reaction This week’s episode finds Leonard faced with the exciting opportunity to perform research as part of a team working with Stephen Hawking. Unfortunately, his work will take him to a boat in the middle of the North Sea for four months. Sheldon, naturally, becomes upset as he doesn’t like to be alone, but he stumbles onto a good point when he says that things between Leonard and Penny have never been better… will four months apart change that?...

The Blacklist Milton Bobbit Review

The opening was horrifying enough. Sure, the car chase was harrowing, and we got the expected pyrotechnics at its inevitable conclusion…but that wasn’t even the horrifying bit. No, that came with the introduction of Milton Bobbit himself, a man with sores all over his body, a taste for, shall we say, non-traditional medicine and health food…and no nose. For a few minutes, it seems as if we’re in full blown body horror bad guy territory, and I briefly hoped that this would be a bit of a callback to earlier Blacklist episodes like “The Stewmaker” which utilized funhouse mirror, almost Batman-worthy grotesqueries as the villains of the week....

The Crawling Ear Predicting Weird Al S New Single

Of course Al is talking about the U.S., because that’s where he lives, but I looked into it and the crap burning up the music charts over here is pretty close to the crap burning up the music charts in the U.K. So, without any further adieu, I would like to try and predict exactly what Al’s latest wacky spoof song will be: “Shia LaBouf’s In Trouble” – The Yank takes on Rhianna’s “Disturbia” and changes all the lyrics to be about the Rear Window remake that starred everyone’s favorite hot little twerp....

The Dark Knight Rises Nolan S Last Batman Film Heath Ledger S Joker To Digitally Appear

The obvious one, first. It’d widely been expected that The Dark Knight Rises would be Christopher Nolan’s last directorial trip to Gotham City, and he’s confirmed this in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. And here’s the story that you can firmly file under ‘unconfirmed rumour’. (we’d not had many of those where The Dark Knight Rises is concerned!) For Stuff.co.nz is reported that Nolan may use unused footage of Heath Ledger in the third Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises....

The Deep Episode 1 To The Furthest Place Review

A good submarine drama is hard to find. For every Crimson Tide or Red October there are a dozen Raise The Titanic‘s, to my assessment. But then, as The Deep is a five part TV series, perhaps I’d be better drawing comparisons with Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea and Seaquest DSV. In this respect, the upside of The Deep was that we got spared the epilogue by Bob Ballard, or synchronised simulated inertia, but not much else....

The Evil Dead Review

The Evil Dead‘s nasty little tendrils have also spread so far into filmmakers’ collective imaginations that, almost 30 years later, its woodland cabin setting has passed from archetype to cliché; the subgenre’s now as old and familiar to modern audiences as the flying saucer invasion movie or the gothic horror flick was to cinemagoers in the 80s. After the arch humour of Tucker & Dale Vs Evil and The Cabin In The Woods, is it even possible to make a serious horror movie in this setting?...
