Arrow Season 6 Episode 6 Tonight’s episode of Arrow felt a bit perfunctory and low-stakes all around since Slade has stepped right into Malcolm Merlyn’s story beats as the deadly dad whose motives you can never 100 percent trust. (Albeit a less murder-y one.) With the flashbacks to a post-Lian Yu Slade, many mentions of Mirakuru, and the generic Eastern European setting, this all feels a bit like retreading old ground....
Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 Episode 1 Rebooting a TV series doesn’t have to be hard. It doesn’t have to be noticeable, either. Last season centered around an almost non-existent story-arc involving a “Big Bad” character (Baal) who was neither very big nor very bad. But if the second season had a purpose, it was to help us get to know Ash more than we had ever had before, introducing his hometown Elk Grove as a setting and all the faces from his past whom we never knew existed....
2.2 A New Dawn Part Two Jason and his companions risk their lives to bring The Palladium home and must escape from the lair of the Cyclops in order to do so, whilst Ariadne must fight enemies from within and without. Pasiphae is confident that Atlantis is hers and, as two armies collide, faith and love are tested, lives are lost and a secret is revealed that must be buried or darkness will fall upon Jason and his adopted home....

Bates Motel Season 5 Episode 2 “Norman, do you still like me?” There are some really nice touches that slyly highlight just how broken Norman is. For instance, there’s a very full bowl of dog food that never loses any of its contents because its meant for Juno, Norman’s dead dog, who’s still alive and well in the fabricated reality that Norman’s living out in the Motel. Previous seasons mined material from watching Norman struggle with his inner conflict....
And Hill is making the most of his five-issue tenure as writer of Detective Comics. He has introduced a brand new villain, teamed Batman up with Black Lightning, and laid the foundation for a new team of Outsiders. That’s a lot of bat for the buck, and that alone would make these stories worth checking out. But Hill has a secret weapon: he knows what makes Bruce Wayne tick. Despite all of the heavy lifting being done around the Bat-family in Detective Comics, Hill has a knack for putting a new spin on Batman’s well-worn drive and motivation, and he clearly has a tremendous love for the history of the character....
The title’s teen folk duo (respectively, Submarine’s Craig Roberts and Fresh Meat’s Charlotte Ritchie) are precisely one album and one single into a new record deal, and they appear to be on the cusp of breakthrough success: they have an appearance booked on ITV’s This Morning, and there’s a festival gig booked to mark the launch of their debut LP. Despite the best efforts of the two leads and first-time writer and director Jamie Adams, Benny & Jolene never quite convinces as a drama or comedy....
2.5 Rebecca It was so easy to lay the blame on Chuck, but Rebecca muddies the waters of just how much we can hate him. Every one of us has felt jealous of a sibling or a close friend at some point, and as the flashback at the start of the episode shows us, Chuck has a pretty good reason to be jealous of Jimmy. As a few people suspected after seeing the name Rebecca on the sheet music Chuck was playing piano from back in the second episode, Chuck was in fact married, and while the glimpse we get of their relationship isn’t unpleasant, per se, what we see is a marriage without much warmth or humour....
Yiannopoulos, who has made speeches against Islam, political correctness and feminism, was on a speaking tour of college campuses when protesters barred his appearance at the California college last month, resulting in riots. Yiannopoulos is a leading voice of the far right variety of alt, which the Anti-Defamation League says peddles “implicit or explicit racism or white supremacy.” Yiannopoulos was permanently banned by Twitter in 2016 for harassing Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones....
4.5 Erlkonig This week’s episode opens with a series of carefully mounted images. We’re in Eddie’s room, his bed undisturbed. The camera picks up two caged birds before alighting on a photograph of his two sons as boys. It then turns its gaze to some sheet music of Schubert’s Lieder and a couple of Western novels, symbolic of Eddie’s German past and his American present. The window is open and the wind breathes through the room, its whistle audible amid the sound of Nucky’s urgent phone call from Willie....
If the writers of Bonekickers are to be believed, the whole of England sits atop a network of caves stuffed to the stalactites with ancient relics. Artifacts like belt buckles are pulled from the earth like a lucky dip at a church fete, and before long, Ben and Gillian (archaeology’s Mulder and Scully) have uncovered evidence of yet another ancient conspiracy; it’s discovered this week that Queen Boudica had a clandestine affair with a resourceful Roman called Marcus Quintanus, who also, it transpires, invented the hand grenade and used them to destroy Rome....

For while Isaac is able to vegetate in the great hereafter, we the audience are left to endure the most generic and by-the-numbers of PG-13 thrillers this side of the ‘90s. Perfunctory and more half-hearted than Isaac’s last breath, Breaking In is the story of a mom forced to protect her children from bad men in a set-up that should be Mother’s Day’s Straw Dogs, yet often plays more like Home Alone but with far less tension....

A critical and box office success, 1994’s Interview With A Vampire was the last time Jordan flexed those muscles, and that film came ten years after his previous foray into fantasy, the lower budgeted, but widely acclaimed Angela Carter adaptation, The Company Of Wolves (1984). Adapted from scriptwriter Moira Buffini’s own play, A Vampire Story, Byzantium follows the story of mother and daughter Clara (Gemma Arterton) and Eleanor (Saoirse Ronan)....
As has become customary in Campus, episode four opens with a scene of everyone’s favourite psychopath, Jonty de Wolfe, behaving with glorious impropriety towards one of Kirke’s student body. I want to make it clear to each of the four people in the UK still watching Campus that Katherine Ryan is a talented stand-up who’s been either misdirected or miscast in the role of George. Saying that, there are only so many constipated, unamused, angry faces one show can take, and hers have definitely outstayed their welcome....
I was worried going in it’d this this would be a garish and unrealistic film about a super-quirky family with nothing engaging or relatable about them. But, I’m pleased to report that this is one of the finest films I’ve seen a long time. Captain Fantastic has heart, drama, and humour in abundance. Writer-director Matt Ross, with only his second feature, has hit on something truly excellent here. The film wouldn’t work if the junior actors weren’t up to snuff, but thankfully Captain Fantastic serves up one of the best young ensembles committed to celluloid in recent times....
It’s impossible to see Rick Castle surrounded by second graders while sitting in a classroom for a case and not be reminded of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarden Cop. But while Rick’s childlike enthusiasm and easy manner with kids produced a few winning moments as he crouched down into the world of princess tea parties and imaginary army adventures, the latest episode of Castle felt off-balance because Kate Beckett and Rick were so distant from each other....
