Lost In Space Episode 4 Review The Robinsons Were Here

Lost in Space Episode 4 The Jupiter 2 is out of ice. Metaphorically speaking, Lost in Space thawed out and really began its world building in episode four, “The Robinsons Were Here.” The space slugs no longer pose a serious threat, so it allows the show to stabilize as best as a family lost millions of miles away from home can. Breaking out of the worries surrounding Jupiter 2 gave us some new pairings that serve to further development relationships and introduce some potentially significant storylines....

Lucifer Wingman Review

Lucifer season 1, episode 7 One of the things I enjoyed about Syfy’s Dominion was its commitment to world-building. One key ingredient to creating a credible world is staying true to a certain set of established parameters. In other words, live and die by the letter of the fictional land. Dominion, which existed within a supernatural post-apocalypse (the biblical kind, not the nuclear kind), governed its high-concept angels-versus-mankind conceit with a rather deep, well thought out mythology....

Marchlands Episode 5 Review Series Finale

Marchlands has, in hindsight, been a tidy little series. Limiting itself to five episodes to tell its story, the show hasn’t been massively ambitious in terms of pointing the way forward for television drama, but it’s nonetheless proven the value in telling a good story perfectly well. And this final episode had a couple of tricks up its sleeve, some of which were signposted, some weren’t. As things kicked off, the definite theme was that people wanted out....

Martin Landau Interview Frankenweenie Sleepy Hollow And More

It was his performance as Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton’s 1994 biopic Ed Wood which finally earned him the awards attention he deserved, with his perfectly-judged performance as the Hungarian horror actor earning him Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTAs, the Golden Globes and the Oscars. It was our pleasure to sit with Mr Landau – who’s tall, charismatic and disarmingly funny – to talk about his work on Frankenweenie and his extraordinary career....

Marvel S Agents Of S H I E L D Season 4 Episode 13 Review Boom

4.13 BOOM Inhuman hater Tucker Shockley brought us that super villainy this week, and doesn’t the name Tucker Shockley just sound like a classic super villain moniker? I did try out my nerd Google fu to find out if Shockley was an established Marvel villain, but I came up empty. Can anyone prove me wrong in the comments? While you’re contemplating that bit of nerd trivia, let’s talk about Shockley....

Marvel S Agents Of S H I E L D Season 4 Episode 5 Review Lockup

Well, so far, so good as the series has balanced the intro of Ghost Rider with the ongoing stories of our favourite agents. And it’s a good thing that Coulson did just that because almost instantly, Coulson and the recently-brought-back-from-the-dead May are attacked by ghost-controlled prison guards. And we are off on almost an hour of haunted prison action. In truth, the whole episode is filler, but it’s fun filler....

Megamind Review

From a fractured planet comes forth a little pod containing a baby, Megamind (Will Ferrell), and his pet minion, Minion (David Cross). From a nearby planet comes the pod containing Megamind’s future sworn enemy, Metro Man (Brad Pitt). From the first day of school, the two were natural rivals. Metro Man was the handsome one with all the powers, Megamind the blue freak from the nearby prison. Every hero needs a villain....

Merlin Episode 9 Review

It all starts with the blue-eyed Nimueh up to no good deep in the catacombs beneath Camelot, resurrecting a long dead knight to go and take vengeance on Uther. The knight then acquires a long dead horse, and all his old equipment (we know not from where) and turns up at Arthur’s crowning as prince to lay down his gauntlet. As we’re all experts in chivalry, this obviously means he wants ‘single combat’....

Merlin Series 4 Episode 11 Review The Hunter S Heart

4.11 The Hunter’s Heart Lovely Gwen, now living in a village, is shovelling hay and feeling quite sorry for herself. Unexpectedly, the village is raided by some evil looking guys wearing black and riding black horses, led by the warlord Helios. With no Arthur and Merlin in sight, the bad guys capture Gwen with ease, though don’t kill her as Helios thinks that having the lovely Gwen as his prisoner may be fun....

Michael Giacchino Celebrates His 50Th Birthday At The Royal Albert Hall

That’s exactly what happened when the noted Michael Giacchino decided to celebrate his fifth decade with an audience of rapt spectactors and Hollywood A-listers: not so much a dry concert recitation as an effusive celebration of one person’s journey into the movie industry. Directors JJ Abrams, Colin Trevorrow, Pete Docter and more all chimed in with live appearances to salute the hard-working, dynamic and likeable composer who has carved out a reputation as much for his committment to melody as for his ability to work quickly under high-pressure circumstances....

Misfits Series 3 Episode 3 Review

Right from the start it’s obvious that this week’s Misfits is going to be the Simon-centric affair we’ve all been waiting for, and man, it doesn’t disappoint. With the past couple of week’s dedicated to new powers and new members of the group, it was about time we got back to the matter in hand, Superhoodie, and Simon’s journey to becoming a real-life superhero. Of course, not everything is as it seems, and the nice and helpful Peter is revealed to be controlling Simon’s actions through his various comic book-style drawings....

Mr Robot Episode 10 Review Eps1 9 Zer0 Day Avi

1.10 eps1.9_zer0-day.avi After the Darlene and Tyler Dad-en revelations of previous episodes, I doubted whether Mr Robot had saved enough mysteries for its upcoming second season. Trust in creator Sam Esmail, is the lesson learnt. After this teasingly inconclusive finale, written and directed by Esmail, it’s clear that there are more than enough question marks dangling for Mr Robot’s return. Zero Day may not have given many decisive answers, but it did provide a satisfying sense that everything on this show is done for a reason....

Nikita Episode 3 Review Kill Jill

See what they did there? With the title of the episode? Ha! The airline AirMerica, one of Division’s high profile clients, has been propping itself up through these tumultuous financial times with a spot of drug smuggling on the side. That is, stuffing a passenger jet so full of Bolivian marching powder it plummets to the ground due to the sheer mass of secreted contraband on board. Good thinking there....

Oldboy Review

After a staggering 20 years of captivity, as expressed by news clip mash-ups, Doucett is packed away in a crate and finally freed with a brand-new iPhone, an envelope full of cash, sunglasses, and not much else. However, Joe has a singular, all-consuming goal: find the person who ruined his life and get revenge....

Outlander The Fox S Lair Review

Outlander Season 2, Episode 8 After an emotionally harrowing end to Claire and Jamie’s visit to France in last week’s season-highlight episode, the Frasers return to Scotland for the first time in season 2 and, while it might not reach the esquisite highlights of last week’s “Faith,” “The Fox’s Lair” does an admirable job shouldering what is essentially a premise reset in the middle of the season. On any other show, “The Fox’s Lair” would probably be a season premiere....

Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 Review

This year has so far been a bit bleak when it comes to good blockbusters. Still, with Pirates 3 leading a near-weekly charge of big screen releases, there’s still time. So how does Jack Sparrow’s threequel compare to its predecessors? Well, to put it straight…good, but really could have done better. Much better. And that really is the problem with the entire film, there is just so much going on that nobody really gets fleshed out enough for people to care....
