The Terror Episode 6 Review A Mercy

The Terror Episode 6 I was beginning to worry about this episode and the show in general. Things have been moving a bit more slowly midway through The Terror, as the show continues to build tension before. But what starts off as a rather dull catch up with James and Francis ends up being the most haunting episode of this show to date. “A Mercy” sets up the disaster at the carnival perfectly, doesn’t it?...

The Terror Episode 7 Review Horrible From Supper

The Terror Episode 7 The Terror doesn’t quite deliver the goods this week. “Horrible from Supper,” the episode that finally sends the crews of the Terror and the Erebus away from their ships in search for help 800 miles away, turns out to be a bit dull. It’s the big revelation about Hickey that saves it in the end. So who is this guy? I assume that bad Hickey killed the real Hickey and stole his identity at some point before the ships set sail for the Northwest Passage....

The Tunnel Finale Review

A wise man once said “Just because you know how something’s going to end, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it”. Actually it was Ted Mosby on the ‘Monday Night Football’ episode of How I Met Your Mother but it’s a philosophy that can easily have been applied to The Tunnel for those who’d already seen it’s predecessor The Bridge. The French/English take on the Danish/Swedish drama has never strayed too far from the path but it’s been put together so well that it’s been easy for viewers new and familiar to lose themselves in this complex story....

The Vampire Diaries Season 3 Episode 3 Review The End Of The Affair

3.3 The End Of The Affair I enjoyed this episode, but it has to be said, this was more to do with what it set up than anything stand-out within the hour itself. Stefan got a lot of screen time and, as usual, unless he’s being a vindictive killer (which, to be fair, he is for the most part), he’s like watching paint dry. There’s a moment near the end when he finally stands up for himself to Elena, but even the events of the episode are beyond his control for the most part....

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 14 Review Stay

6.14 Stay It was billed as Jeremy’s farewell episode all week long, and Jeremy did exit Mystic Falls for an undeterminable length of time, but the bulk of the episode was really about Caroline losing her mother. But it wasn’t just about Caroline losing her mother, but also about Liz and her experience leading up to death, which is a distinction that made all of the difference in practice. Having Damon be the one she shared scenes with, along with adding an extra dash of tragedy when Caroline realised she hadn’t been there in her mother’s final moments, was a masterstroke in that it allowed her to talk about her daughter without it becoming overwrought....

The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 14 Review Moonlight On The Bayou

7.14 Moonlight On The Bayou Sometimes it’s more disappointing that the fans want it just so Klaus and Caroline will speak again, no matter how uninterested the showrunners appear to be in that particular ‘ship. There are tons of great things that could be tackled in a crossover episode (or 2-hour event, as this was) and, thankfully, Moonlight On The Bayou chose to focus on Stefan and Klaus’ long-standing relationship instead....

The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 10 Review Home

3.10 Home It’s also a great metaphor for Rick’s mindset. He’s so locked in on himself that he can’t even function among the group anymore. Indeed, for most of this episode, Rick stays away from pretty much everyone, and in that leadership vacuum, someone has to step up. Fortunately for the prison survivors, that’s Glenn. Unfortunately for the survivors, Glenn’s a little blinded with rage at the moment. The Governor knows where they are....

The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 9 Review What Happened And What S Going On

5.9 What Happened And What’s Going On The course is set for another road trip for the survivors, another trip to a potential haven from the undead threat all around them. This time, they’re taking Noah home to a gated community outside Richmond, Virginia, where his family, friends, and neighbours have closed themselves off from the world and, thus far, kept the hordes at bay. Zombie hordes, anyway; as the walk through the suburban splendour reveals hacked up bodies and burned-out buildings, it doesn’t look like their walls and wire were much defense against their fellow survivors....

The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 16 Review Last Day On Earth

6.16 Last Day On Earth After an odd cold opening featuring a blacked-out screen, lens flare, and whistling, The Walking Dead kicks off its season six finale with Morgan following the clues to Carol. A sign reading “You Are Alive,” a horse missing a rider, a dead body with a crucifix clutched in its hand… Meanwhile, Maggie, as we saw last week, is in some kind of distress, and it’s up to Rick and an RV full of important characters to get her to Hilltop and the care of the doctor there....

The Week On Demand 8 February

One of the few gems of BBC Three’s comedy output, Pulling, is showing on BBC Two at the mo, so make sure you catch episode one by Monday. It doesn’t hit you with easy one-liners but give it five minutes and I can promise you will get into it. It’s certainly good that it’s being repeated, as this is the last week of Buzzcocks of this series –and it’s the best in the series, with Moby being funny....

The West Wing Season 1 Episode 4 Review

We open on Bartlet passionately delivering a speech like it’s his own personal St. Crispin’s Day, but, worryingly for the senior staff, he’s just lost five votes for his new initiative on gun control. (More worryingly for this reviewer, it appears Josh has fangirls. Takes all sorts, I suppose…) But if Wick looks like an utter tit in this episode, the senior staff look a lot worse. Just as we’re growing to like these characters, Five Votes Down shines a bright light – possibly the kind with the power of a million candles – on the imperfections that bugged this reviewer so much in the pilot....

The X Files Season 11 Review Spoiler Free

It’s right there that Mulder cracks the case of why these revivals still appeal to viewers and why The X-Files will once again return with new episodes in 2018, when all logic points to the contrary. Two years after the show was revived to sometimes harsh, sometimes mixed, and in the case of one episode, glowing reviews, the story continues in the 10-episode X-Files season 11. We’ll get this out of the way: It’s a marked improvement over season 10....

This Is England 86 Episode 2 Review

Lol’s father makes an unwelcome reappearance – dredging up the past and forcing Lol to reveal home truths that her mother denies and her sister has never heard. Shaun gets a job renting out VHS tapes and finds a father figure in the trusting shop-owner, and Gadge’s tryst with an older woman reveals her son may have been fathered by another member of the gang. Shaun and Woody may be working – and the latter has organised the gang to decorate a flat for Lol and generally disguise the fact that a drug addict died in there – but you’d be hard pushed to call even the older members of the gang (who quite frankly should no better) an emotionally-developed adult member of society....

Thundercats Episode 2 Review The Omens Part 2

The Omens Part 2 Lion-O sits at a table tinkering with a scrap of technology while Tygra berates him angrily, not understanding Lion-O’s reasons for freeing the two captured Lizardfolk last episode – an act of clemency that many perceived as weakness. To Tygra, it’s further evidence that the prince doesn’t take his position seriously. But there’s little time for petty grievances as an alarm sounds. The advance guard-post manned by Lynx-O (a nice cameo – he was a character introduced in Thundercats Ho!...

Tim And Eric S Bedtime Stories Season Finale Baby

We’ve reached the end of the first season of Tim and Eric’s Bedtime Stories, and this show, more than any other of the duo’s projects, felt like it had the most potential behind it. Going into this, their senses were the most refined than they’ve been after their Funny or Die Presents material as well as their feature film. The thirty minute “Haunted House” pilot was a reasonably strong, well produced, bizarre entry to tease the show almost a year before it actually began airing....

Time Commanders Episode 1 Review

This review contains spoilers. I learned that Carthaginian leader Hannibal, for instance, had the look of Michael Sheen playing the lead in a CG animation biopic about Beppe from EastEnders. Roman general Scipio (pronounced Skippy, oh – the disappointed utterance of someone discovering the famous bush kangaroo pleasuring herself against a Eucalyptus tree) however, was a dead ringer for Vladimir Putin. There’s more. Despite commanding a load of elephants and a force of forty thousand at the Battle of Zama—each one of whom was lucky enough to get an individual close-up this week during the long wait for the real action to begin—, Hannibal lost....

The LEGO Movie It’s a big corporation-funded effort that hates corporations. It’s based on a best-selling toy that comes with pages of detailed instructions, but it’s about the joy of throwing those instructions away. It’s a celebration of the creativity of the individual, but it makes a song of conformity, Everything is Awesome, so catchy that we all end up happily singing it. Toy Story 3 Review

Naturally, I had to be there too. I’m not best placed for press screenings, and so shelled out to travel a good few hundred miles to Edinburgh for the screening. I was ecstatic to see Toy Story when I was five years old, and the first film is still one of my favourites of all time. While Toy Story 2 is just as good, nothing holds the same nostalgia value for me as that first film....
