In 2016 the finale of Dino Super Charge aired and it was controversial at best. We reviewed it at the time but the biggest take away was that the Rangers actions in the past caused the dinosaurs to never be wiped out by the comet. When they returned to present day they learned dinosaurs were a common part of everyday life. They even wore Santa hats on Christmas. We can’t make this stuff up. Things were seemingly thrown for a loop once again when the Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel premiere had the villain of Dino Charge emerge out of a portal and say this (the Ninja Steel universe) was a different universe. So okay, that meant Dino Charge could be its own thing… Or Ninja Steel was an alternate universe and Dino Charge was part of the “prime” timeline. Thanks to an interview with Kyle Higgins over at Comic Book Resources, writer of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers comic which is about to engage in a huge crossover event, it has been confirmed that Dino Charge is in fact its own universe. In response to a question about the 2017 Rangers making an appearance in the Shatter Grid event, Higgins addresses other seasons that are not in the main series’ continuity. Maybe the Shattered Grid comic will shed some more light on this. Perhaps even unite all the unvierses again? We’ll have to wait and see. If you are interested in trying figure out all the various universes, a fan named Joe Rovang has compiled a timeline that tracks every timeline and dimension of the Power Rangers universe. The people who work on the franchise would do well consulting this every once in awhile. Shamus Kelley is a pop culture/television writer and official Power Rangers expert.
